What the fuck is this guy doing? On the second one did he honk back at you or was that someone else?

u/AWESOM3e92 2d ago
He honked at me after I honked at him during the turn. I also honked at him during the first incident.

u/Sweaty-Training-1055 2d ago
Damn, I already knew he was painfully stupid but this is a lot

What in the heck was that guy in the Tesla thinking? Oh, I just realized he may not have been thinking at all!

That almost always happens when I honk at people who cross into my lane on a double left turn. They usually honk back, flip me off, or act incredulous that I would even honk at them, like i’m the bad guy for honking. Never mind they almost smashed into my car and caused me a heap of inconvenience.

I honked at someone who turned towards me on the wrong side of the road and kept going straight at me.
Eventually she put down the phone and jerked over into her lane but gave me the finger and honked back.

You shouldn't have honked at the first one you're like the third closest car he doesn't even know you're honking at him, that was for the car directly behind him.

Meant to turn left at the next light but felt like they were more important and decided to fuck up traffic.

Why do people who get honked at have to honk back like they’re not the ones in the wrong? I guess they just can’t ever admit they’re wrong

It’s a Tesla driver. It’s not their fault, the car is supposed to be driving for them, so they abdicate all responsibility.

u/voarex 1d ago
I think it is funny that Tesla lost a lawsuit for not doing enough at stopping the driver from being so dumb. Like bending over reaching for a phone while press down on the accelerator. This is another case where they need to take away driving privileges or risked being sued again.

u/Bamfhammer 1d ago
Autodrive would not have done that at all, those turn lanes and the turns themselves are clearly marked. This person wasn't using FSD

Ah Montlake and 520! This light does suck if you aren’t experienced on it. The turn lanes that the Tesla should have adhered to lead to a toll bridge/eastbound with no alternatives. Once you get across the bridge, you can turn around but have to pay another toll on the way back. There’s another set of left turns directly ahead that Mr. Tesla is trying to get to that lead to freeways/westbound. The first time I hit this intersection I made this mistake but committed to the turn and paid the toll.
That turn onto the freeway sucks even more when traffic coming the other direction block the intersection and people refuse to move. To make this intersection even more beautiful, there’s a drawbridge and major university stadium ahead (from OPs perspective in the beginning) that causes all sorts of chaos during game days.

I have made the mistake of going over and back on 520 the first time I went through there after the re-do. Bad drivers never mess there exit.

u/salty_sashimi 2d ago
I don't understand how they redid all of it recently and it still sucks so hard to drive there. Does there need to be a whole new road to handle all that traffic, or longer lights? It feels like there aren't enough lanes, but it already stretches over a huge amount of land and water.

u/chaoticmap 2d ago
The light timing is awful. It’s obviously prioritizing traffic coming off the freeway but still… Problems going northbound on Montlake Blvd start at Roanoke St, where it’s difficult to even have space to cross the intersection when the light is green, because the light at Lake Washington Blvd is still red and cars are still filling those lanes.

u/salty_sashimi 2d ago
Truly. I've seen cars backed up from two different lanes blocking that northbound lane with a green too many times. Turning right onto it is awful.

This must be that self driving at work. Either that or he has no clue how to read road signs!

u/shibiwan 2d ago
This is 100% idiot. FSD is actually pretty competent.
12
u/Jaded-Mix3528 2d ago
Maybe he should try using it then. His ears will thank him when he doesn't get horn blasted everywhere he goes.
7
u/shibiwan 2d ago
The guy's probably too cheap to buy it ($100/mo or $8k lifetime)
I got lucky because it came with my car. TBH, I find myself using it a lot. It has actually saved my ass multiple times (night driving with deer darting out on the highway).

u/ya_boi_A1excat 2d ago
Just don’t trust the FSD at night too much- Teslas don’t use LIDAR, so there’s a good chance the forward cameras don’t see much better than you, even if it can react faster.

Teslas don’t use LIDAR
I'm aware. I don't put 100% of my trust in it, but the times it saved my ass was when it saw animals dart out before I could even see them on a super dark highway - the cameras have a night vision mode. I've cut down on my night driving since.
...and then there's the rare occasion when FSD tries to kill me.
Meanwhile my older first gen Tesla can see 3 cars ahead because it has a radar. Not on the new one that depends on the camera....
1
u/camobiwon 2d ago
Radar is and has been disabled for years, it is not actively used in any systems
2
u/shibiwan 2d ago edited 2d ago
The first gen Model S still uses radar, since the MobileEye based Autopilot needs them. They only have 2 cameras (font and rear).
1
u/camobiwon 2d ago
Ah my bad then if that is the case, I was only aware of that for the not as old Teslas with radar and full cameras
1
u/shibiwan 2d ago
It's an eye opener when I have an old one and a new one. The amount of progress made is massive.

u/Jaded-Mix3528 20h ago
I think the problem is people trusting technology and their luck too much. You can only press your luck so many times before you get a whammy! Here in the USA Press Your Luck is an old game show that might be older than me even! Some of these started in the 60s 70s or 80s

That intersection is the biggest shit show in Seattle

I was really upset to realize we went through all the inconvenience and expense of the redesign, and lost an awesome neighborhood grocery store.. for THIS??

You know when someone is so stupid it hurts? This is one of those moments. And the *idiot* had the *audacity* to honk back. I, just, can't. I can't.

Is that the Montelake intersection? That guy is an idiot, and that's also a new, complicated intersection with a toll bridge, so I have to imagine this is unfortunately common

looks like a pretty stupid road set up, 2 left turn lanes that lead up to 2 left turn lanes if you go straight at the light.
