Meta Mod PSA - Companies taking advantage of indie devs on reddit will be banned - any suggestions with proof?
The bot problem on reddit is well-known and the admins are doing their best to fight it, but the indiedev community is particularly affected by companies that promise developers quick results for their time, effort or even money without any results.
If those companies use paid accounts or bots to promote on here, r/indiedev will automatically remove any mention of said companies forever.
So, what companies should we add to the list?

RGGPlay landed on the list for promoting their platform with a hacked older account that miraculously came back to life a month ago only to promote crappy products (SlutPuppyJade for the curious).

Meta Moderator-Announcement: Congrats, r/indiedev! With the new visitor metric Reddit has rolled out, this community is one of the biggest indiedev communities on reddit! 160k weekly visitors!
According to Reddit, subscriber count is more of a measure of community age so now weekly visitors is what counts.

We have 160k.
I thought I would let you all know. So our subscriber count did not go down, it's a fancy new metric.
I had a suspicion this community was more active than the rest (see r/indiegaming for example). Thank you for all your lovely comments, contributions and love for indiedev.
(r/gamedev is still bigger though, but the focus there is shifted a bit more towards serious than r/indiedev)
See ya around!

Video I made a programming game, where you use a python-like language to automate a farming drone. It’s finally hitting 1.0 soon! I'm already feeling nervous haha

Is my battle system too similar to Undertale's?
I'm making a platformer-rpg style game and decided to have a different battle system in it.
This video shows the battle of a mini boss in my game and i feel like it's too similar to Undertale's battle system, I did think about adding a wall jump mechanic but then balancing the battles will be much harder
I'm really stuck, should i change it or is it different enough?
Oh also below the box there's the name and the level which is just a play on how similar it used to look like to Undertale (with black and white sprites and whatnot) so that is subject to change
(also don't mind the mouse i forgot it was there)

Feedback? A close look at our game where you're a Medic in WWII who has to save his mates' lives with realistic medical procedures! How is it looking so far?

Trying our hands on the "frustrating platformer" genre, but we're making the game "fair"
This is ULTRA VERTIGO, a fair first person platformer. Usually, these game features a ton of frustration and bugged platforming, and we tried removing everything that could be seen as unfair for the player. Also, made it with a ton of customization options to allow players to tailor the difficulty to their needs. We worked on a huge level with a ton of secrets to compensate for the lack of unique gameplay mechanics. We'll see if this works! Got a few speedrunners hooked recently during a private playtest.

Check out my "machine" card deckbuilder
I wanted to do something different, and 3D is my thing... so I went all in on a fully 3D deckbuilder. Every enemy and card has custom rigging, animation, VFX, and SFX. Way more work than 2D, but I’m hoping the extra effort is worth it. What do you think?

Upcoming! Japanese media wrote about my game!
It was definitely worth localizing the game to Japanese! We immediatelly saw a spike of 260 wishlists in that day (vs usual ~40), fingers crossed on how it will go from there 🤞

Image All effects currently available in my game.
The principle of the game is as follows:
You find yourself facing a monster, you have several choices, your choice remains secrets once all players have decided on their action, then the choice are revealed and the consequences are applied.
The effects you see are modifiers available in the game :)

Video I've been working on the idea of a 44-player PvP shooter for over 3 years. One team plays in first-person and tries to escape from a prison. The other team controls monsters from a third-person RTS perspective to stop them. The first playtest starts in 3 days.

How do you create high quality GIFs with transparency?
I want to include high quality GIFs with transparency in my steam store page description.
Something similar to how Balatro does it.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but I can't figure out.
I haven't found a one-and-done solution, so I tried using combinations of software and online converters.
One software gets everything right, but the quality gets tanked.
Another messes up the speed of the GIF.
Another doesn't support background removal.
Trying to mix and match them to get the result I want breaks something along the way.
What software should I use for this?

Feedback? Can I get some feedback on my game's UI?
For context, this game is kinda similar to Papers Please. I wanted to keep the UI immersive but still practical. What can I improve?
Edit: More screenshots of the UI here - https://store.steampowered.com/app/3955230/Hunters_Seal/

Video A suspense scene we built for our survival horror game Kriophobia
It’s a very important moment in the game, focusing on tension without revealing the monster right away. Fun fact from development: there’s actually a HUGE monster behind that door, and getting it to fit through was quite a challenge.

What are your weekly steam impressions?
I'm looking to learn more and more about how many of X stats game devs get.
I'm wondering what you guys get for your "most recent week" impressions on steam?
I've shared mine above for my game "Free For Fall"
If you share your own it would be helpful to include a link to your own game! Thanks! :)

my 'concept art' vs the actual artist (my sister)
Going back to my placeholder art still gives me a good laugh, and I'm sure many non-artist devs can relate.
my survivor game Vanquish The Eternal drops on steam october 10th!
