Video I made a programming game, where you use a python-like language to automate a farming drone. It’s finally hitting 1.0 soon! I'm already feeling nervous haha

It is also quite good to learn Python or to refresh your skills. :)
I hope you like it!

You can find it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2060160

This looks Awesome and I want to buy this but I have a question. I am pretty experienced with programming and I would like to know whether this will get challenging enough/if it’s made to learn or practice programming.

i used to play when the game barely released and it wasn't that challenging but is cool that you can kinda free-roam and make your farm more profitable by coding more useful and cleaner. i recommend you another game kinda like this one but it have pvp and online. screeps: world

May be worth playing again, I've gone back to it a few times since release and a lot has changed. Some of the later bits were more challenging puzzles, like the mazes, dinosaurs and cactus elements.

Yes first you will go through it fast. But later it can get super challenging. Especially with the 1.0 multiple drones update on October 10.

This has been on my wishlist for a long while! Just have not pulled the trigger. Maybe l will pick it up at the 1.0 launch!

u/AdSad9018 12h ago

Nice to hear!! :) 1.0 will be on October 10 and feature multiple drones farms.

Did CallMeKevin or some other youtuber play it?

2

u/BronzeMaster5000 13h ago

Dont know about him specifically but i also first saw it being played from a youtuber.

2

u/AquaQuad 11h ago

Yup, CallMeKevin.

Already own the game and can confirm that it is a fantastic game! Well done for all the effort you have put into this and I look forward to seeing it after release of 1.0.

To anyone on the fence due to the coding element. Whilst I have an interest in coding, I do not know python except for the bare basics. I definitely struggled with this game but the feels you get when the code finally works is a super great experience. The game introduces the concepts to you slowly and you have complete freedom to experiment and try to make your code better as you learn more. I highly recommend.

but anyway super cool game

2

u/AdSad9018 9h ago

Haha half of my reviews are: I program at work.. now I also program at home XD

I didn't know you can do this cool. How long amd what engine did you use to create this. Looks cool planning to buy the game.

I want to learn game developing also.

I've played it. It's pretty fun. Albeit I'm not a Python dev.

1

u/AdSad9018 12h ago

Nice to hear!

1

u/MrPringles9 13h ago

Wish I was as talented so I could make a spell building game with a similar premise...

1

u/Master_Delivery_9945 13h ago

Omg, you're so smart 🙌🏾

1

u/BronzeMaster5000 13h ago

Loved the game and played it when it first came out. Are you planning to add achievements for 1.0?

1

u/AdSad9018 12h ago

Yes already created like over 50 :D (for 1.0)

1

u/BronzeMaster5000 10h ago

Nice looking forward to playing it again

1

u/TreadheadS 13h ago

Dude, I just purchased a copy for you! Congratulations!

Bought it! Looking forward to play it

1

u/AdSad9018 12h ago

Nice thank you so much :)

1

u/rottaposse 12h ago

Quick question, how did you achieve the IDE in the game? Did you program it from the ground up or are there frameworks you can use to do that sort of thing?

1

u/LegPotato 12h ago

First time a game I already have shows up here. Congrats on 1.0!

1

u/AdSad9018 10h ago

haha noice!! Life goal :D

1

u/Im_notuseless 12h ago

I already got it some time back and like it. I am curious though, whether you plan to add achievements to the game with 1.0?

2

u/AdSad9018 10h ago

Yes already made like over 50 :D Which I will add at 1.0

1

u/Vizceral_ 12h ago

Oh cool, I've had your game on my radar for a while, good luck with the launch !

1

u/AdSad9018 10h ago

Thank youuu :)

1

u/Lychee151 10h ago

Love what you’ve built, best of luck with launch day!

1

u/gitpullorigin 9h ago

Why why why is it not on Mac or Linux? That is where serious people actually hang out

1

u/AdSad9018 9h ago

I know I know maybe lateerrrrrr

1

u/gitpullorigin 9h ago

I want it noooow! (rolls on the floor and throws a tantrum)

1

u/Confident_Ad_5889 9h ago

Oh damn this looks great I would love to play it

1

u/Imaginings_Software 9h ago

Looks brilliant, and a big technical kudos to you as difficult to pull off.

Not sure the average retail customer will get it or find the learning curve too large, but who knows in our ever evolving world of more and more tech savvy youngsters, maybe it'll go viral!

Wishing you the best of luck with your release.

1

u/CodingCreatureStudio 9h ago

This is just amazing. The game has a "tutorial" mode? Or it just assumes you know Python? I may get this for my kid to teach her how to code.

1

u/AdSad9018 8h ago

Yes the documentation also works as a tutorial. And you can't do everything right away. Certain coding parts also have to be unlocked.

1

u/CodingCreatureStudio 8h ago

This is VERY nice. Do you have plans to localize it? Asking because I live in Brazil and most of my friends avoid playing games that aren't in portuguese. I think this is a great concept. Hope the game sells as much as it deserves!

1

u/AdSad9018 8h ago

It already is available in Portuguese ;)

1

u/fetching_agreeable 8h ago

Bought it and clocked it with my partner last night. Really good game but there are still a few things which need working on

1

u/AdSad9018 7h ago

I hope the 1.0 will be a better experience then :)

1

u/fetching_agreeable 7h ago

There are bugs but the gameplay was thrilling. We checked steam and we had the game open for more than 350 minutes each by the time we went out to lunch

1

u/NeoChrisOmega 8h ago

Honestly when I played it years ago, I never realized it was still in production. I'm looking forward to your 1.0 release!

2

u/AdSad9018 7h ago

Yey thank you! I hope you will like it :)

1

u/NeoChrisOmega 6h ago

I'm positive I will. Looking forward to seeing how you implement multiple drones. Do you plan to add more to it over time? Like maybe daily quests of producing x resources per second. Or a total of x resources?

1

u/Adventurous-Cry-7462 7h ago

Does it teach you python or does it assume you already know python

1

u/5Dimensional 7h ago

Hey! I’ve seen this bad boy before. Glad to see it make it!

1

u/ScruffyNuisance 5h ago

I've been recommending this game to everyone wanting to learn some basic python for months. I think it's brilliant.

1

u/Droplet_of_Shadow 4h ago

is it just making code that works, or is there also optimization?

1

u/Odd_Philosopher1741 1h ago

I played the game to the end and I was having a blast! (I'm a software engineer by trade). Kudos for making this!

u/agarlington 14h ago edited 8h ago

I know this is a long shot but I'm just a borked college student, you don't have a demo at all, or any older WIP build or version of the game you might be able to relinquish a copy of? I really want to take that step in learning some programming language but don't have many tools to apply myself beyond the free guides and tutorials (which are obviously more than enough) however, I'd love to support the game on Steam when I'm able, wishlisted for the future!

6

u/2utiepie 13h ago

Bro it’s price of a sandwich and drink. Buy it or don’t buy. Just don’t be a beg.

-2

u/agarlington 8h ago edited 8h ago

Oh, okay. Sorry guys, I guess supporting things or asking for a DEMO means you have to be Mr. money bags. its cool though. Won't be a "beg"...

piracy it is.
