Korean Instant Noodles Finally Tried the Ottogi Cheese Ramen!

Post image

... and it's ... just like normal ramen but with a hint of cheese powder?! (I absolutely LOVE old Kraft Mac & Cheese, so maybe I was expecting more of this?)

I guess I expected it to be MUCH cheesier. I followed the pkg directions, with maybe a hair less water. Added pre-sauteed corn/broccoli; kimchi after tasting. I didn't think I wanted the spicy version, but I was totally surprised at how mild it tasted!

I like it. (Not sure how much though- maybe I'll just eat the normal ramens and add cheesy cheese next time.) I think I'll add much less water next time. But I can't imagine seeking this out again in the future, with all the other amazingly more delicious ones out there! I guess it's perfect for a light snack. (@450 cal 😂🤦)

Thoughts?

In retrospect- I may like this in the future, with corn/browned SPAM strips. And less water!

Maybe you should try the Stir Fry version? It's way cheesier and consistency is closer to a mac and cheese situation.

I'll try it! I was just curious about the soup situation. Is the flavor basically the same? I mean, if I'm craving mac & cheese, I guess I should just make that... 😄

I think it's pretty close to the cheese ramyun, but definitely more cheesy. It's worth noting that the cheese combination they use isn't common for mac and cheese; the non-spicy stir fry is branded as Cheddar and Mascarpone, and it has a very distinct taste to it that I think is unique enough to be a Different Food Item from just regular Mac and Cheese. Sort of in a similar way to how Kraft Mac & Cheese is a different food item from homemade or even frozen Mac and Cheese, but it's not super close to either one. The noodle quality is excellent on the stir fry version as well. There's also a spicy version of the cheese stir fry available, which is probably a bit more unique and might be more to your tastes if you can handle the heat.

Cheddar and mascarpone is excellent as cheese ramen goes, I still add a slice of american cheese and a squirt of mayo and some hot sauce, but it is also pretty great on its own.

I really like this, especially the spicy one! Probably the cheesiest instant ramen I’ve ever had. Hard to find though :(
