DISCUSSION Do Viltrumites do things like brush their teeth and take showers?

u/Ok_Somewhere1236 4d ago
and people already mentioned, Nolan take showers and he look like a very clean guy, but i imagine they probably also have more advanced tools for that, and also as we see in the show, they can probably just fly very fast on the atmosfere and burn any dirty away

u/Surlybaws 4d ago
So does that mean they can fly with their mouth open to eradicate the morning breath?

As if any bacteria would dare grow on a viltrumite's mouth

Their mustache feeds on the bacteria and being that it's made of smart atoms uses the energy to most efficiently be magnificent

u/AnalogicalEuphimisms 4d ago
Ngl, a naturally space-capable species being able to feed by filter feeding through the atmosphere genuinely sounds like a pretty cool quirk.
Though how would the mustache-less females do that? Unless the carpet is supposed to match the drapes...
14
u/SheriffJetsaurian 4d ago
They have a lower mustache that does much the same.

u/man-of-pipis 4d ago
You could make this into Hideo Kojima "Quiet breathes through her skin" level worldbuilding: "No you don't understand, she needs a crotchless suit because she filter feeds through her lower mustache"

Also it's reasonable to think all bacteria die as soon as they leave the atmosphere
6
u/Puzzled-Party-2089 4d ago
Even if they die they'd still stink. And some micro organism can survive vacuums and extreme conditions
3
u/GoAndFindYourPurpose 4d ago
Most stink is produced by bacteria so they would at least stink less.
Or maybe their smart atoms are capable of self cleaning?

u/FickleHare 4d ago
I think bathing is more like a luxury to them. They don't even have to eat as often as we do, though they may well prefer to.

Flying into space would cause all oils/dirt to come off of their skin wouldn't it?
157
u/fuckthisplatform- 4d ago
doubt it. Flying at their speed would get any dirty off them but idk about brushing teeth

u/ea837th_heaven 4d ago
They just open your mouth and grit their teeth while flying. Burns all the Kaiju bits right out of there.

Or maybe getting punched causes all the food to fall out of their mouths🤔

u/CrazeMase 4d ago
The worst part of fighting a viltrumite isn't the fact you will die, it's the fact that when they smile, the bits of kale in their teeth fall out and land in yours

u/Lithrelin 4d ago
I wouldn't be surprised if their teeth naturally heal by themselves as part of their healing factor anyway.

Open your mouth in space to kill the bacteria

They probably don’t need to brush their teeth, except if there was actually food stuck in them. I image they’d be immune to getting cavities and other decay.
But they would still need to shower. Being super durable doesn’t stop dirt sticking to you
6
u/Adam014gaming 4d ago
Their teeth regrows, so its probably not necessary because they get punched out way faster than any decay develops

Conquest lets it crust over, he doesn’t wipe.
He then peels it like a scab. Then he swats away the poo dandruff from his Viltrundies

Fascist, militaristic and chauvinistic societies are usually pretty anal-retentive about hygiene and looking orderly

yes. it’s in the natural instinct for any intelligent animal to be clean. as you go up in intelligence, there’s more of a desire to be clean, as species like humans are aware of bacteria and the dangers of it, hence the reason we’ve come up with ways to efficiently clean ourselves. the same could be said about viltrumites.
1
u/Possible-Deer9542 3d ago
"Clean" is subjective
2
u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE 3d ago
that’s exactly the point. clean to an animal with less intelligence, like a cat, is something as simple as licking themselves. to a more intelligent being, like a human, clean means showering and disinfecting.
1
u/Possible-Deer9542 3d ago
Human beings are highly intelligent and throughout history have routinely bathed extremely infrequently. It's entirely social norm dependent.
2
u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE 3d ago
the reason humanity has bathed infrequently throughout history is simply because they either 1: did not have the knowledge required to determine cleanliness or 2: did not have the inventions or infrastructure required to keep everyone clean (IE a plumbing system for showers/ toilets). obviously there is a cultural aspect to it, as for many things, but i’m speaking solely on the reasoning as to why intelligent life typically comes up with better ways to clean themselves.

We know for sure that Nolan said that he showers in S1, so I think the other Viltrumites would as well. But I’ve got a feeling that viltrumite teeth are so strong that they wouldn’t really need to brush their teeth
1
u/jubtheprophet 4d ago
We know conquest at least doesnt, but even other viltrumites think he's a freak so he's not a good benchmark. But yea i assume they do it anyway or at least have some weird futuristic mouthwash that does the same. Theyre evil bastards but they seem pretty serious about the whole looking the part of being superior thing, i dont think theyd walk around with stank breath
2
u/CrazeMase 4d ago
Tbf, every viltrumite seem so far besides conquest has straight white teeth. Even with conquest, his teeth are white, just crooked and broken, which probably isn't because of neglect, but because he blocks punches with his face

I imagine if you float near a star and smile itll clean off any bacteria built up on your teeth
1
u/Happytapiocasuprise 4d ago
I would imagine they can burn away filth via flying through the atmosphere

I mean they can, but im pretty sure they could also just like, fly through a star and burn it all off just the same

u/LividLife5541 4d ago
Think of how amazing their teeth are that they don't wear down after living for thousands of years.

Technically, they bathe when they fight in a body of water. Like when Nolan brought Mark on a trip to the ocean. And when they fight on a star, it burns away anything unsanitary.

Body odor is produced after sweat, dirt, and other oils and dust accumulate on our bodies over the course of a day.
Tooth Decay happens when foods, minerals, sugars, slowly wear down our teeth, and even with proper brushing and dental care, can wear things down after a while.
With this in mine, it stands to reason they would have to shower, but brushing teeth may not be necesarry.

u/honorable-sudoku 3d ago
considering Nolan showers and that they were a super advanced society even after the purge
I would imagine as much
1
u/FreshLiterature 3d ago
Given their resistance to disease I'm not sure we would want to meet the bacteria that could overwhelm a Viltrumite's local biome to make them stink or cause dental issues.

I think yes, if not they will smell like homeless people. Yes, it may seem obvious, but isn't that why we're here?

As others have said, there's no need. Most things can not decay them, and nothing could withstand their movement speeds or the strength from their lungs (things stuck in their teeth).

More than once in S1, Nolan says he is going to take a shower.
