I wish they'd split spin-offs and main games because i'd be more interested in the individual sales tbh. They can still report the combined number too ofc, it makes people happy to see big numbers.

And surely that vast majority of the sales are vanilla P5 and P5R anyway. Dancing in Starlight, Strikers and Tactica wouldn't have sold a heap.

u/scytherman96 Dec 17 '23
Actually we know that Strikers specifically sold 2 million, they announced that not too long ago for some reason.

u/am90v2 Dec 17 '23
I bought P5, P5R and strikers. Never played strikes for more than 1 hour though. But really enjoyed P5 and a few years later P5R.

u/Sherrdreamz Dec 18 '23
Strikers really did feel like a worthy sequel as far as the story went though. It was also the best merger of Warriors gameplay with another I.P that has ever come out before.

u/ChaosFulcrum Dec 18 '23
I'm the opposite.
I tried playing Strikers right after finishing Persona 5 Royal all the way to True Ending and I got bored of playing it after beating Alice, the Chapter 1 boss. It was a direct sequel alright, but I couldn't care less because it has little to no connection to the main plot of the main game aside from the Thieves rediscovering a brand new mystery. Feels like a filler arc of an anime TV series, but it happens after the ending instead of in-between.
Also, while it may not be true later on, but Igor being absent in the Velvet Room threw me off. The fact that he's not there means the story is probably not that important in the grand scheme of things lol
I played a Tales game instead and enjoyed myself far better than Strikers.

It's probably because they're hesitant to replace his voice actor. At least until Persona 6. As far as I remember, Toei did the same thing with Tien's voice actor.

u/Takazura Dec 18 '23
You should give Strikers another try. The new characters are great and the gameplay is so good.

Easily the most successful game in the Persona series. Excited to see how a Persona 6 will fare once it comes out.

u/Just_User_FFS Dec 17 '23
Now, ffs, move to Persona 6/ SMT VI or some new IP.

SMT V just came out almost three years ago. It's gonna be a while before we get SMT VI.
I agree on Persona 6 though. Persona 5 is over seven years old at this point. I'm ready for something new. I've had my fill of the Phantom Thieves with 130 hours in Royal and have no interest in any of these spin-offs.

u/A_Monster_Named_John Dec 18 '23
I'm hoping that they consider remastering the other SMT titles from the PS2 era and maybe reissuing the ones that were made for the DS/3DS.

u/ringofgaea Dec 18 '23
I want DDS/Raidou remasters so bad, I’d love Devil Survivor 3 as well 🤞🏼

u/BebeFanMasterJ Dec 18 '23
I want a sequel to Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It was my first Atlus RPG and it got me into SMT and Persona.
3
u/BebeFanMasterJ Dec 18 '23
A remake of SMT IV or Devil Survivor in the SMT V engine would be so great. SMT V is visually beautiful and I hope all Atlus RPGs going forward use its graphical engine.

Strikers aint a spin-off, it’s a sequel though. And at least to me it really felt like a persona game, except without the social links.
2
u/BebeFanMasterJ Dec 18 '23
It may be a sequel just like P4 Arena was to P4, but it doesn't play like a traditional Persona game (like Arena) and is therefore a spin-off sequel.
I'm still not interested because I don't want to play another 50-100-hour RPG with the same exact characters I've already experienced in a 100-hour RPG. Royal was more than enough for me and I want something new.

u/Varitt Dec 18 '23
Completionist run of strikers is like 60hs, just the story is about 35. What I meant is that the gameplay loop very much feels like a persona game, just a different genre. But yeah, totally valid to not want to play it 😊
I legit really liked it though. The story had some super hype moments, amazing music and the gameplay was also quite fun.
1
u/Rentington Dec 18 '23
If the dude wants to hold onto his money without spending it... it is a different kind of a Completionist run in its own right.

u/SpiralUpGames Dec 18 '23
That's their pattern, but i think at this point, it should be Persona 6 next. I can't imagine another P5 spin off.
1
u/BebeFanMasterJ Dec 18 '23
I really hope Tactica is the last one. After Metaphor, P6 should be next.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Royal. It had an amazing story and ended with one of my favorite final boss sequences in gaming, but I don't have any interest in playing another game with the Phantom Thieves. I've had my fill of these characters and I'm ready to move on.

u/Yesshua Dec 18 '23
I've been expecting SMT 5 special edition (more demons, more endings, released on more consoles) but after this long I guess it isn't happening??
On one hand, Atlus does 2 editions of ALL their games. SMT 3, 4, Persona 3, 4, 5, Catherine, Devil Survivor 1, Devil Survivor 2, Strange Journey... it would be foolish to assume that this would be the one major Atlus title to buck the trend. But, like, what could be taking so long? Maybe the SMT team is doing something else actually?
5
u/BebeFanMasterJ Dec 18 '23
Who knows? I certainly don't. I'd honestly rather them move on and make a new game because SMT V doesn't exactly have the most interesting story that warrants extra endings to begin with. But that's just my opinion.
At most, I can see them porting it to other systems with no new content. This is Atlus we're talking about lol.
3
u/Ordinal43NotFound Dec 18 '23
Yea same. I'd rather them move on instead of trying to add more into SMT V.
The setting and lore just isn't interesting.
2
u/BebeFanMasterJ Dec 18 '23
Nope. But the gameplay was so damn good that it's still one of my favorite RPGs. I loved how challenging it was and the demons and level designs were so crisp.
To me, gameplay comes first and even if it did have a weak story, I loved the gameplay and sidequests. Choosing sides between demons was also fun. It's a solid 8/10.
With that being said, I do hope SMT VI is a bit more character focused. Not on Persona's level, but something more like SMT IV or Xenoblade.

Took a while for them to do Catherine's, so I don't think it's impossible

the ideal "fan" unaware of anything else going on in their company but feels entitled to want new games NOW

I want a director's cut/enhanced edition of SMTV for other platforms first!

Have you missed that many of the key people from Persona 3-5 is working on a new IP...? https://metaphor.atlus.com/
-11
u/Just_User_FFS Dec 18 '23
Studio Zero, the 3rd creative studio is working on Metaphor: ReFantazio. Persona is P-Studio.

u/Reutermo Dec 18 '23 edited Dec 18 '23
Which doesn't change what I said regarding that the creative leads of Persona 3-5 is working on it...? Do you think that the studio name is more important than the people in said studio?
10
1
u/Newphonespeedrunner Dec 18 '23
Correct which is comprised mainly of people from the modern persona studio
5
u/Newphonespeedrunner Dec 18 '23
They are litterally making a new ip right now, the persona team is the one working on metaphor.
Has atlas even made the spin offs for persona 5?
2
u/theweebdweeb Dec 18 '23
The team working on Metaphor is some of the more tenured Persona staff who formed a new team within Atlus for Metaphor and also had a hand in the Catherine remake, but the primary team within Atlus for Persona have had a hand in pretty much all the Persona 5 spin-offs excluding Strikers.

u/YasuhiroK Dec 17 '23
Can't wait for the Persona 6 reveal, it'll break the internet. P5 pre-release hype was something else.

u/Slayven19 Dec 18 '23
They have, unless you mean more none RPG stuff based on demons. Cause I've love another trauma center type game. Or another rpg from them not based on demons.

Let's just hope P5 isn't a lightning in a bottle situation and P6 and beyond can reach even greater heights.
All the persona games were great, but 5 to me was beyond something special. The music, the art style, the themes, the characters.
I sincerely hope P-Studio is up to the task
1
u/Supersnow845 Dec 19 '23
Unlikely it’s a lightning in a bottle situation considering that 4 golden alone last time they updated it had 2.5million by itself like a month after the pc port released and before it released for consoles, this was 2 years ago and also doesn’t factor in original vanilla sales
So 4 has to somewhere up around the range of close to 4 million now and while older than 5 it isn’t anywhere near as well known so I expect that persona isn’t going to struggle in the future
3
u/Alarming-Ad-1200 Dec 17 '23
These numbers become pointless when there are so many random spinoffs that you lose keep track off.

I'm actually happy for them, even if I am a bit tired of the persona formula now. I doubt P6 will give us a catherine vibe, but I know I'm still gonna play it even if its stuck in high school. People would cry if it left that.

This game surprised the hell out of me.
I'd tried several Personas before this one, as well as SMTs, and could never finish any of them. They just never did it for me, for a variety of reasons. P5 came around and while it was getting crazy reviews, I'd been disappointed too many times before, so I just figured I'd ask for it as a birthday present. That way if I once again tried it and didn't finish, I wouldn't be wasting my money.
As it turned out, though...I loved it to pieces. I did have to go through some growing pains with the first dungeon and not realizing exactly how the timed element works (had to start over) but the fact that I DID start over tells you just how much I was liking it. Still one of my favorite RPGs of the past decade. I credit this and DQXI with getting me back into JRPGs after basically ignoring them during the PS3 era (with a few exceptions).

u/Sure-Entertainment14 Dec 18 '23
Not surprised. I personally bought 3 copies (vanilla for ps4, Royal for ps4 and ps5). of it 🫠

I would be intrigued to know how many P5R sold compared to everything else. I account for 4 myself including spinoffs.
