As someone who has never played the original and does not know what Ivalice is, can someone confirm, is this a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, a sequel, or is final fantasy tactics its own series that has its own entry called the ivalice chronicles? I just want to play the og in a modern way so I hope this is that.

None of the above. It's both:

  • A remaster (rather than full-throttle remake) of the OG Final Fantasy Tactics, bundled with the game as the "Enhanced" mode.
  • A port of the PSP version (referred to as "The War of the Lions translation") of the OG Final Fantasy Tactics, bundled with the game as the "Original" mode.

Basically, this is the definitive edition of the OG Final Fantasy Tactics. It's not a remake, though. That's really a good thing. FFVII: Remake has been unpleasantly divisive for the community.

This isn't entirely correct. The classic version is just the OG version with the WotL script inserted. Neither version appears to have any WotL content included.

Well when I say a remake I don't necessarily mean VII remake. I'd consider a remaster that changes mechanics somewhat and fully overhauls visuals like ni no Kuni DS to wrath of the white witch a remake as well. To me a remaster is just a graphical overhaul and maybe audio and UI changes. But yeah. So it's the story and characters of the original game? Also, what's the difference between war of the lions and og?

It only has the WOTL translation and none of it's extra juicy content.
