~ PC Demo Link ~

~ PS5 Demo Link ~

~ Switch Demo Link ~ (Nintendo are always very slow to update their store pages, so the demo might take a while to appear)

They have mentioned that Saves from the demo carry over to the full game.

As expected, they remade the original opening albeit with a couple more characters and scenes added.

Cool to see Switch 2 version announced

39

u/Iliansic 23d ago

The fact they use original chibis on loading screens made my day.

5

u/Stowa_Herschel 23d ago

Omg that is a nice touch! I've always found Kloe's little wink and pose adorable in the original

29

u/minzz2 23d ago

Man, this made me nostalgic. I probably shouldn't play the demo since there's still a month left but I'm not sure I can resist.

9

u/morgawr_ 23d ago

I'm currently stuck on a backlog of currently-playing Lost Odyssey, Bravely Default (Switch 2), and Dragon Quest 3

I'll be skipping this demo despite preordering the full game months ago. I'll wait for when it releases but damn it is tempting.

1

u/earthshaker271 22d ago

Lost Odyssey??? Now there’s a throwback, hholllyyyy peak. I LOVED that game

2

u/South25 23d ago

Don't worry it transfers to the full game so there shouldn't be any harm in playing it now.

144

u/Benchjc2004 23d ago

Play this game.

22

u/LuckyHalfling 23d ago

I played the original on steam, I’ve got like another 9 or so games to play before I loop back to the start.

Fantastic game though, if this remake is anything like the original it’ll be a great experience.

10

u/Faramir420 23d ago

I played for 1 hour and say its the best remake i ever played i wished ff7 remake was like this and optimization also seems good 4k/120fps ultra settings and it was really smooth on a 3080 ti ryzen 9 5900x

2

u/earthshaker271 22d ago

High-key I agree this might be the best remake of a JRPG I’ve played

16

u/Stoibs 23d ago

The hardest decision is deciding on platform now.

Glad that we've *finally* heard news of a Switch 2 version.

9

u/genjurro 23d ago

Steam deck for me if performance of the demo is Ok

1

u/remmanuelv 23d ago

Did You try it on the deck?

2

u/Intensional 23d ago

I only played a few minutes, but it seems like it works fine on Steam Deck. It defaulted to low settings and I got around 50 fps. I switched it to Medium and locked the display to 45fps and got a solid 45 fps.

2

u/genjurro 23d ago edited 21d ago

Did a try until reaching Rolent (1st big town).

I am on SD OLED.

Pre-rendered cutscenes: 50-55fps House indoor: same Outdoor: 40-50fps

All default settings (mostly low, some medium). HDR on. Black Border even @1280x800

EDIT: 3,5h in and so far performance is good, ~45fps in medium settings

People are saying that the Switch 1 version on Switch 2 looks great and is running at 60 fps so if you really want handheld I'm sure it'll run and look better when it's upgraded to switch 2.

RPGsite has a version performance breakdown:

https://www.rpgsite.net/feature/18219-trails-in-the-sky-1st-chapter-ps5-vs-switch-2-steam-deck-demo-impressions-pc-port

1

u/21shadesofsavage 23d ago

i played the og and found it boring as hell. the remake's combat flow feels pretty damn great so far with the seamless switching between real time and turn based combat

17

u/Spenraw 23d ago

Carry over?

32

u/OHM-Rice 23d ago

Yes, save file carries over to the full game.

11

u/agiantanteater 23d ago

Oh hell yeah

5

u/Effective_Being_5305 23d ago

I’m not seeing a demo for switch 2? Do I have to bring out my OLEd?

3

u/Lewa358 23d ago

Can't the Switch 2 just play the Switch 1 version natively?

1

u/Effective_Being_5305 23d ago

Yes but I don’t see an option to download the demo on my switch 2.

3

u/AceSoldia 23d ago

Yeah it's not there at all. On switch 2 store

51

u/atisaac 23d ago

Okay, sorry for my stupidity. There are one billion games in this franchise. Is this the first? I know it’s in the title. But like, is it the first in the “Sky” series, the first game in the franchise overall, or both? I’ve always had a cursory interest in this because The PeopleTM love it, but it feels like a behemoth undertaking.

98

u/VashxShanks 23d ago

You are correct that Sky is essentially where the series starts. Here is the order taken from r/Falcom wiki:

1 - Liberl Arc: Trails in the Sky FC (First Chapter) Trails in the Sky SC (Second Chapter) Trails in the Sky 3rd

2 - Crossbell Arc: Trails from Zero Trails to Azure.

3 - Erebonia Arc: Trails of Cold Steel 1-4

4 - Trails into Reverie: A standalone followup game to both the Crossbell and Erebonia arcs.

5 - Calvard Arc: Trails through Daybreak Trails through Daybreak II Trails beyond the Horizon

25

u/makemeking706 23d ago

This is story order?

43

u/TheLostCityofBermuda 23d ago

Yup, story and release order.

Currently they remaking the Sky Arc to use the same engine as Daybreak.

3

u/bowiethesdmn 23d ago

Thanks for this. Was just about to go searching cos I played the first two Cold Steels over lockdown, Crossbell Arc recently, and was completely lost as to where to start again.

3

u/lueetan 23d ago

Here I was wondering if it was part of the Tails of Symphonia series lol

1

u/Albireookami 23d ago

Mind you till only a few years ago, NA had to go Crossbell > Erebonia arcs, so glad we got the crossbell arcs translated.

36

u/ThrowawayBomb44 23d ago

Very first game.

It's just the first three games are called the Sky arc.

18

u/MilleChaton 23d ago

This is the very first Trails game, remade in basically the newest engine.

Trails itself is (or was) as subset of the Legend of Heroes series, which itself is the subset of the Dragon Slayer series. But don't worry, all the games that came before Trails in the Sky are unrelated in terms of story, world, or universe. 99.9% of the time when someone talks about The Legend of Heroes, they mean the Trails series, of which starts with Sky First Chapter (or Sky 1st Chapter as the remake calls it).

The first two games form a complete story, only leaving open a few plot points to tie into a later sequel. You might finish it and decide that's it. You don't have to dedicate yourself to playing all of them. If you love the first two games, that's when you can jump into the rest.

34

u/Schiffer2 23d ago

It's the first of the whole trails series, yes.

I know it seems like a huge behemoth, but sky 1 and 2 are honestly great on their own ! You can tackle more later if you want, or not and still be satisfied :)

So don't worry too much and enjoy the ride !

3rd felt like the perfect bow tie for me to the Liberl Arc. I remember crying when the credits started rolling.

12

u/Standing_Legweak 23d ago

But star door 15

9

u/MilleChaton 23d ago

If they redo it in the new engine...

The original is a work of art in story telling, filled with some of the most impactful "show, don't tell" game play that I've ever seen from a visual novel format.

I can't wait to see all the posts of a new generation who experiencing it for the first time. As well as all the streamers who open it with no clue what they are getting into. It would be my pleasure.

15

u/Superior_Mirage 23d ago

It's definitely a pretty serious undertaking if you want to play through the whole thing, but I'd say it's worth it -- it has the most expansive and ambitions worldbuilding out of any JRPG, bar none, and arguably any video game outside of maybe Elder Scrolls and Mass Effect; though those handle theirs quite a bit differently. (I'm not including games whose main worlds aren't in video games, like 40k and DnD, because that's cheating).

And I don't just mean the setting -- every single NPC is given an arc that changes as you play. If you go back to a town after a major event, everyone will have progressed in these story lines, making talking to NPCs far more rewarding than in other games. Like, there's an entire plotline of two characters courting and getting married in the first game, and then you run into them on their honeymoon in the second -- it's that kind of granular worldbuilding that makes it feel far more lived-in than other JRPGs.

The characters are also great for the most part. The story can be hit-or-miss, depending on how much anime nonsense you have tolerance for, but at its worst it's still better than the bad Tales games.

The nice thing is that, since this is the jumping-on point for the series, you can wait for each remake to come out to help space out the grind -- or, if you get impatient, you can always rush ahead (though the jump from the remakes to the old games will be quite the shock).

4

u/KenzieM2 23d ago

Just wanted to say, don't view this as a behemoth of a series that you must go through. Play the first game, and if you like it, play the direct sequel when it comes out.... but you can stop there if you want.

The trails series may be a huge overarching story but it's still segmented by arcs.

5

u/BawlzxOfxGlory 23d ago

Both but also not. It's a later game in the Legend of Heroes series, but the modern Trails iteration isn't connected at all to those games on a story level. This is the first game of the Trails series, beginning with the Sky arc. It goes Sky 1-3, Zero/Azure, Cold Steel 1-4, and Hajimari and Kuro I believe are the latest ones.

2

u/five_of_five 23d ago

It’s less complicated than you think. Separate arcs that occur chronologically (this holds true through releases, while some of the arcs are effectively occurring at the same time, just throughout other parts of the world)

1

u/Snowvilliers7 23d ago

Yes this is the remake of the first game of the Trails series and the first of the Sky trilogy. If you want to start jumping into the series, now is the perfect time to play this one.

1

u/naevorc 23d ago

Yes, it is the first. If you want to give it a go, the remake would be a good opportunity.

1

u/noyram08 23d ago

This is the first game and the perfect entry point, you can jump into the next set of games if you’re hooked and can’t wait for 2nd chapter’s remake.

That said this is basically a half of full game though mind you it’s a very meaty game (as all Trails are)

u/GintokiAcevedo 23d ago

Is the demon out for the switch version because I haven’t been able to find it ?

3

u/medicamecanica 23d ago

It takes a bit longer for switch to update sometimes.

6

u/Stoibs 22d ago

Still no Switch 2 demo? Or is it only available in certain regions 🤔

Anyway it runs great on PC, might just get it there if we're unable to test the Switch performance :/

2

u/Neorevan0 22d ago

Got off work and hoped it would be up for me to play. Guess not.

19

u/KMoosetoe 23d ago

SWITCH 2 LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

edit: digital only RIP

29

u/BighatNucase 23d ago

It's a 1 dollar upgrade so honestly I find it hard to care. At least this guarantees the physical isn't a key card.

3

u/Gram64 23d ago

This is nice, already paid for the physical Switch 1, was worried I was either going to have to pay another 10-20 for a switch 2 upgrade, or cancel and get the full digital version...

4

u/KMoosetoe 23d ago

we don't really know how GungHo would handle physical Switch 2 releases

14

u/Wasiily 23d ago

At least you can buy the Switch 1 physical version and get an upgrade for 1 dollar, unlike wtf SQ is doing with DQ1+2

7

u/smallcat123321 23d ago

And yet Square made a free update for DQ3 and free upgrade pack for FFT. It seems they’re trying everything.

3

u/Joseki100 23d ago

They are all games from different Creative Units groups at SE.

4

u/smallcat123321 23d ago

DQ3 and 1+2 are the same

6

u/BighatNucase 23d ago

I meant more that you can buy the Switch 1 version (which seems to be a physical version) and have a virtually free upgrade.

7

u/KMoosetoe 23d ago

yeah it just would've been nice to have had a native Switch 2 version on cartridge but it is what it is

This Switch 2 version was probably done kind of late so they didn't have time to plan the logistics around a physical release

3

u/BighatNucase 23d ago

Both this and FFT launch within the same two week window and operate the same with regards to Switch 2 (i.e. cheap/free upgrade + no physical version) so I feel like it was a timing issue more than anything else.

2

u/eyebrowless32 23d ago

It would definitely be a game key card if they did a physical Switch 2 release. Id rather take a Switch 1 on cart copy with a $1 upgrade any day over a key card

1

u/KMoosetoe 23d ago

Not necessarily

There's no precedent set by GungHo on their handling of Switch 2 physical releases

1

u/South25 23d ago

I'm assuming that considering the Beyond the Horizon delay that Falcom has only recently started work on Switch 2 ports of the games so the cheap upgrade is probably a way for them to them not have to delay the game for the Switch 2 port like they did with that game.

1

u/Lethal13 23d ago

Sorry so Switch 1 physical and there is a dollar patch to Switch 2?

4

u/BighatNucase 23d ago

Yeah if you want physical on switch 2 your only option is the Switch 1 version and then paying 1 dollar for the upgrade patch.

3

u/Lethal13 23d ago

I’m fine with that.

I wish Namco could get their shit together on their remasters and do stuff like this

Never played a Trails game and I might start with this one if its the first in the series

1

u/South25 22d ago

This is a remake of the first game yes.

4

u/[deleted] 23d ago

The graphics are so good for this game. Been playing since cold steel and its awesome to see the series go this route.

7

u/MinePlay512 23d ago

This is very good news. I'm thinking about trying the demo out, as I have some interest in the game.

6

u/SupperTime 23d ago

Amazing. Was looking forward to this. I’ll play it after I’m done with persona 5.

3

u/macasman2008 23d ago

I really want to play this on the Switch but I don’t see a demo yet. Guess PC it is for now.

3

u/Brave_Cartoonist9980 22d ago

I see you there boob physics.

5

u/Fab2811 23d ago

Does anyone know if the progress carries over?

3

u/OHM-Rice 23d ago

Yes it does.

5

u/Fortolaze 23d ago

Yes, it will

3

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 23d ago

Literally says so at the end of the trailer

10

u/Twick2 23d ago

Everyone jumping into the series for the first time, welcome to peak fiction. I’m so glad this game is getting the attention it deserves.

2

u/EyeFit 23d ago

Just played for an hour on ultra on my Pro XR glasses in 3D. Very well done and a great game for 3D. I'll definitely be buying this on Steam.

2

u/aruhen23 23d ago

Seeing the Estelle drop kick in the opening scene but this time fully animated is pure nostalgia. I'm so hype for my favorite game in this series in 3D.

2

u/homie_down 23d ago

I guess my only holdup with the prologue is if trophy data will carry over. Does anyone know if the demo for Daybreak 2 had any issues with this or no?

2

u/Dopparn10 23d ago

Apparently achievements will not carry over.

2

u/homie_down 23d ago

Guess I’ll wait then, thanks for the heads up

1

u/MapleBabadook 22d ago

That's confusing, because they track them in game. So even of you have achievement in demo it won't be in full?

2

u/Ok-Apple2045 19d ago

Switch demo still not out from what I can tell.

4

u/OhDearGodRun 23d ago

Someone please tell me if chest messages made it back

3

u/ntmrkd1 23d ago

I've been wondering this too. I hope so!

12

u/OhDearGodRun 23d ago

I'm watching Noisy Pixel stream it right now. They appear to be gone... sad

8

u/PvtSherlockObvious 23d ago

Unfortunate, but I'm not terribly surprised. Assuming the games did away with a generic "this chest is empty" message to begin with, there'd be nowhere to put them, and it was always a quirk specific to the original localizers in any event. Speaking of, how does the new localization hold up in general? That's been a potential point of concern since they announced it would be a retranslation. The original localizers added a fair bit of flavor to the characters, it'd be a shame to lose that.

9

u/Cake__Attack 23d ago edited 23d ago

so far it's seems fine but not as good as the original - I don't even really mean in the sense of Xseed punching up the dialogue, even when two lines are two accurate translations saying the same thing the Xseed version has typically been better phrased.

like as an example using not especially noteworthy dialogue from the first scene

Xseed:

Cassius: Actually, I just met this boy while I was out on business.

And I don't even know his name.

Estelle: You mean bracer business?

Cassius: Something like that.

Gung Ho:

Cassius: Anyway, I ran across this kid while I was working

I don't even know his name.

Estelle: Working? As a bracer?

Cassius: Sorta.

this is minor enough maybe some people will wonder what I'm even talking about but the Xseed version reads more natural. you can see this in other places if you compare the openings across versions.

xseeds localization has some aspects I don't like which I imagine the new localization will even out so it's not entirely negative, but I'd be surprised if the Xseed translation doesn't end up being the superior versions.

e: in the interest of fairness I basically have this games script memorized and so on some level it's just jarring to hear every line become slightly different from what I remember.

4

u/furrywrestler 23d ago

just based on these few lines, i wouldn't guess cassius to be the caring father that he is. like, he doesn't use the word "sorta"...

1

u/YolandaPearlskin 23d ago

Wow. Thanks for the example. I'm not trying to be dramatic, but this is pretty disappointing. The Gung Ho text reads like it was translated from Japanese to some other language, then back to English. Or possibly, just a machine translation.

6

u/OhDearGodRun 23d ago

Yeah I'm concerned about that as well. On the stream they're kinda skipping through scenes to get to gameplay, so I didn't see much dialogue. But I know for sure "Why is my present a boy?" Is gone, which is unfortunate.

0

u/PvtSherlockObvious 23d ago

Well that's definitely concerning. Not dispositive, but still a sign of what we were afraid of. Obviously I'm not going to let it stop me, but even still, the characterization and sheer amount of personality on display, especially for Estelle, was always one of the original's biggest strengths.

-1

u/ntmrkd1 23d ago

That is unfortunate news, but thank you for letting me know.

1

u/OhDearGodRun 23d ago

I get why they're gone, but yeah its a shame to not have those back

-1

u/garfe 23d ago

It is literally not possible to program those in again unless Falcom does another oopsie

6

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 23d ago

I mean Falcom could just...  Choose to put them in

3

u/garfe 23d ago

Japan has no basis for the chest messages since they were a localization quirk and since they were not in Cold Steel that means the English fandom has been fine without them for 10 years so why would they do that? Like you realize the basis for the chest messages gag was that Falcom made a 'the chest is empty' code for every individual chest which is ridiculous to start with?

3

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 23d ago

I know exactly where it comes from, but given how beloved a feature it is in the West they could have chosen to add it in. Not a deal breaker.

3

u/terraphantm 23d ago

It's not impossible, but it's a lot of effort for what amounted XSeed's joke.

0

u/bluejejemon 23d ago

Some dedicated modders are bound to back port those I'm calling it

→ More replies (2)

5

u/MolotovMan1263 23d ago

Man I must be getting old lol, 20 mins in and im overwhelmed by all these systems

14

u/PvtSherlockObvious 23d ago

Nah, orbments and quartz just take a minute to get used to. It's pretty straightforward when you get a feel for it, though, and it's not like you need to change your loadout for every fight or anything.

6

u/Back_like_Flint 23d ago edited 23d ago

They intentionally decided to keep the original orbment system the same for the Remake, which I’m glad is the case—even if it takes a while to grasp the fundamentals on your first play through. Future installments either have passive stat buffs/status ailment effects that are added to the character’s stats and attacks, and Quartz that enable the use of specific Arts in combat. It is quite boring compared to the original system from Trails in the Sky FC, honestly.

Basically, each quartz has a unit value tied to at least one, but sometimes as many as three or four of the seven elements that exist in Trails (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Space, Mirage, and Time). The Bracer notebook that is given to you during the Prologue includes all of the elemental “Unit” requirements needed to unlock each and every art. So in short, Trails in the Sky FC’s Quartz all provide some kind of passive stat buff, or at least some kind of environmental effect while out of combat (like making it easier or harder for enemies to notice you out of combat). Because some characters have specific Element-Restricted Orbment Slots, which usually also provide extra points for that specific element once a Quartz has been installed, they will naturally lean towards having access to a specific set of Orbal Arts, while others—like the Protagonist—tend to have free reign to experiment with as many combinations as possible, to see which is preferable for your playstyle.

You unlock each party member’s orbment slots, then you line up and try to create synergies with as many Quartz as you can fit on a single Orbment Line/Path. The total “Unit Values” will be tabulated for that line, and once the minimum thresholds for new Arts are met, they’ll become available for casting in combat.

2

u/soft-cuddly-potato 23d ago

As an old player, I love the orbment system and find it easy. It's the battle systems I'm so confused about

2

u/Rachet20 23d ago

The Bracer book should have quartz combinations for abilities if you don’t want to have to think about your setup.

1

u/MapleBabadook 22d ago

I had the same experience, I was like damn am I just getting too slow to pick up on this.

0

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 23d ago

If you aren't willing to solve simultaneous equations you don't deserve spells.

1

u/KMoosetoe 23d ago

you'll get the hang of orbments, don't worry

3

u/wheatconspiracy 23d ago

is this like DQ11 where it’s just the beginning of the game, and you can continue from your demo save?

10

u/MobileTortoise 23d ago

Apparently this is the case. Reading online that it's the entire prologue chapter and data will carry over

1

u/Gernnon 23d ago

Do you know roughly how long is the prologue?

5

u/Embarrassed-Goat7711 23d ago

I'm not a native English speaker, but I managed to get through the prologue on the PS Vita version in 7 hours. Since it's in 3D and has larger environments, I think it will take around 7-8 hours.

3

u/Gernnon 23d ago

Sweet so it's like Ys X Nordics demo length

1

u/KMoosetoe 23d ago

yes, Trails Through Daybreak and Ys X functioned the same way

4

u/Gram64 23d ago

Demo not up yet for switch 1 or 2?

3

u/LunaSakurakouji 23d ago

Switch 2 ver made this an insta buy for me.

2

u/Top_End7396 23d ago

How long is the demo

8

u/MoSBanapple 23d ago

It consists of the game's prologue, so probably about 5-10 hours (and your save data carries over to the full game if you buy it).

3

u/OriginalUsername0 23d ago

LETS FUCKING GO

1

u/ArcadianBlueRogue 23d ago

Had this on Steam/PSP for ages and never really played it. Maybe I should take another look

1

u/PhantomDragonX1 23d ago

It's not showing for me on ps5 =(

2

u/Lionheart1224 22d ago

Go to the PSN store. Select Trails 1st Chapter. Click the three dots. One of the options on the drop-down menu should read "Demo". Click Demo. Click Download Demo. Profit.

1

u/LordWaffleDog 23d ago

I know this copied the hybrid battle system of Daybreak, but does it carry over the same orbment and quartz setup?

3

u/garfe 23d ago

No, the quartz setup is the same as the original Sky.

1

u/Lokkiwie 23d ago

CANT WAIT !!!

1

u/tinbapakk 23d ago

Any idea how long is this demo?

3

u/Lionheart1224 22d ago

I think it goes until the aftermath of the first big boss fight in Mistwald. So about 7-9 hours, maybe?

1

u/Dazzling_Search563 23d ago

Anyone knows if Trails FC Remake works on the Steam Deck?

1

u/Cautious_Book3832 23d ago

Since this is using the new engine, could I check which of the later games use it?

I've finished Sky and Crossbell but don't dare make the jump to Coldsteel because my laptop was rather laggy with the Cold Steel 3 demo.

2

u/Dopparn10 23d ago

Daybreak 1 and 2 use it.

1

u/Zoraji 23d ago

Any word on the price yet? I am just wondering if it will be $60 like the Dragon Quest III remake or $50 like Suikoden 1 & 2 or something else.

2

u/banshee_tlh 23d ago

It’s $60 on the eShop.

1

u/Zoraji 23d ago

Thank you, the Steam listing didn't show a price.

1

u/gluttonusrex 23d ago

Woah awesome never got to finish it before, glad its also gonna be coming on PC

1

u/Coteboy 23d ago

Here's hoping I can get into this and not leave it in my backlog like the original one.

1

u/CompleteEcstasy 23d ago

Has there been any word on if any content has been cut?

1

u/gabest 23d ago

I could not get into the 3d trails games. Isometric view with sprites was better.

1

u/CristoCastsDefeat 22d ago

Game starts with the dad bringing a body...girl asks is it a fishing rod??And then says pretty good looking kid🤣🤣🤣You can't make this stuff up.. It's just weird af. I have a hard time with modern JRPGs because of stuff like that.

I’m curious if I never played a trails game before could I start with this one if I like it or would I be completely lost in the story

1

u/blakeoft 22d ago

I'm like 95% sure this is the very first one, so it's the very best place to start.

1

u/amc9988 22d ago

Good thing they don't do something like evolution opening which basically spoils the entire game lol

1

u/StrikN9ne 22d ago

Is this going to be voice acted? It looks great on all fronts and I love friendships on a journey type stuff. I need voice acting tho:(

1

u/Casamance 22d ago

Man, that Secret Green Passage remix is gonna hit like crack

1

u/ijinn 21d ago

Should one play this instead of the OG for a first timer?

1

u/iamthedevilfrank 21d ago

Hard to say. One benefit to playing the OG is you can jump right into the second game. If you play the remaster you're gonna have to wait probably like a year or two for the remaster for the sequel to drop. You could go from remaster to OG second chapter, but I feel like it'd be pretty jarring since it's a pretty significant difference in graphics.

The remaster looks really good though. I loved the original, but I feel like this is going to be the definitive way to play the game. All the quality of life features alone I think will make it the best version.

If you're really into the old school jrpg era and have a preference for that style over modern games then you might want to go with the original.

Is this game strictly surviving on nostalgia hype?

On PS5 I downloaded the demo played it , seems kind of slow, a kid level game, and boring.

I think the 14.99 kemco games are equal in gameplay!

Could be just brilliant marketing

1

u/Few-Durian-190 23d ago

Incredible!

1

u/TheLostCityofBermuda 23d ago

I’m still debating if I want to play this fully, is it still harsh in getting full Bracer Rank with a lot of missable key point sprinkle all over the game.

2

u/Weltallgaia 23d ago

I just use a spoiler free guide for the old ones.

3

u/guynumbers 23d ago

Falcom has gotten really good at streamlining content. You’ll be easily able to 100% the game just by looking at the map every new section.

1

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 23d ago

Going by the newer games it will be really easy to get all but 1 BP.

1

u/YolandaPearlskin 23d ago

I played the game blind this year and got full rank without effort. Wouldn't you have to intentionally not do all the jobs to fail?

1

u/ZELDAISTOPTIER 23d ago

never played a trails game, but that's about to change! this game looks so good

-3

u/JJS5796 23d ago

I like the opening movie, but damn that's a pretty big spoiler right in the opening movie.

As for the demo, I'm already sold on this game, so I'll wait for the official release.

15

u/xXbrokeNX 23d ago

If you've never played the game how would you know its a spoiler? You dont.. this is how most opening movies work lol

1

u/MaimedJester 23d ago

Eh, that character in the obvious sinister evil villain lighting and shadowy mustache twirling wine swilling pose is a bit much... that character is not really that obvious an antagonist or you don't know who the bad guy(s) are on their introduction.

For most of first chapter it doesn't even seem like there is a final fantasy end boss antagonist.

Trails opening are always like that. Watch it once enjoy it, move on. When you start seeing it over and over again or you go through it frame by frame and take your time thinking about it, you can spoil yourself.

But most trails openings are like that.

u/KMoosetoe 23d ago

literally nothing in here means anything out of context if you're watching it for the first time

1

u/Raeil 23d ago

Normally I'm the one giving this perspective. Context is crucial to a spoiler being a spoiler, and much of what a person who's seen a show gets from an opening is unremarkable or not recognizable as a spoiler to a fresh set of eyes.

That said, in this case, I can't agree. It's extremely obvious from the character model and hair that two people in the trailer are the same person; the trailer looks like it's trying to hide it, but failing so badly that it almost feels like the dev team almost wants to spoil this particular reveal before the player gets there. Any other "spoilers" here don't pass the fresh eyes test, imo, but this one is extremely noticeable.

2

u/cheekydorido 23d ago

You mean laurence? he barely shows up in the game whitout his helmet on that it doesn't really make much of a difference, not like knowing how he looks is any kind of a spoiler

2

u/terraphantm 23d ago

The only characters I can see his complaint applying to are Kloe / Klaudia... but I don't think anyone who doesn't already know about her will figure it out from the trailer.

I do find it interesting that Laurence seems to be shown with the Ouroboros logo. I can't remember if that was present in the original game and we just didn't know the significance until the end.

1

u/JJS5796 22d ago

That's whom I'm referring to.

3

u/YolandaPearlskin 23d ago edited 23d ago

This is par for the course with JRPGs. Tales, Trails, hell even the Final Fantasy IV PS1 version from 25 years ago has spoilers in the intro. Persona takes it one step further and puts party spoilers on the cover.

edit: I watched the intro and have no idea what would be considered a spoiler, and I am very sensitive to this. At worst, it shows multiple party members.

Was gonna start this series soon but now gonna have to wait for all the remakes to be done

3

u/guynumbers 23d ago

There’s not going to be any other remake for a very long time. The goal of this is just to get people interested.

4

u/levelstar01 23d ago

There absolutely will be an SC remake within a few years

1

u/guynumbers 23d ago

KX, Kai 2, Ys 11

u/klkevinkl 23d ago

Just a heads up, but it seems like some of the scenes aren't voiced. Not sure if this is intentional or if they haven't done all the voice recording at the time of the demo's release.

6

u/Dopparn10 23d ago

That's normal for trails, sadly.

1

u/klkevinkl 23d ago

Some of those scenes were voiced in the first remastered version back in 2015.

3

u/Dopparn10 23d ago

Yes but falcom decided to change VAs, so they re-recorded everything. Now we have the modern voice acting for this game, which is just partial voice acting.

1

u/Lionheart1224 22d ago

One thing I did notice in the demo, once you reach the top of Jade Tower and have to talk ot everyone there, everyone has voice lines...save for Estelle. It was really weird having voiced dialogue for the other characters, bit to have Estelle respond with just unvoiced text.

-6

u/SupperTime 23d ago

The voice of the Female MC is very obnoxious. Am I the only one who feels this way?

2

u/MapleBabadook 22d ago

No way, she sounds great. Unless you mean when young, then yeah, but that's only for a few minutes.

Are there any save data bonuses for having played the other games in the series? I'm gonna guess no, but i couldn't find anything while googling

0

u/CrayonBoii 23d ago

hello, sorry for asking here but should I wait for the remake and play it or play the original (2004) first?

3

u/DisparityByDesign 23d ago

Its a remake of the original.

1

u/CrayonBoii 23d ago

so everything shoud be the same right? so I can play the remake then continue with original sky SC

1

u/DisparityByDesign 23d ago

Yeah except for some character for minor NPCs and areas I think

0

u/_moosleech 23d ago

Dunno if the demo covers enough (haven't gotten to try it out yet), but did they add anything for tracking/finding hidden quests to make 100%ing the game less of a pain in the ass? The original Sky games were filthy with missables

6

u/KnoxZone 23d ago

It seems to follow the other modern games with notifications for hidden stuff on the map. Haven't gotten to any hidden quests yet, but there was a notice for the first chapter of Carnelia, so I'm assuming it'll hold true for the rest.

Still making my way through this one on PSP. I'm up to the part where they put on a play at the academy and Joshua has to dress like a girl.
