fictional mixtape for Teodor Adorno
Which jazz tracks would you suggest for a playlist that would turn the late Teodor Adorno on to jazz? The German philosopher was notorious for his dismissive views of jazz, coming from a classical background. He considered it "not music", just commodified white bourgeois entertainment, anodyne in its quest for "smooth", utterly pointless and devoid of humanity.
Also, which tracks would be the most punishing for a person of this mindset?

What's the most pretentious thing you've heard at a jam session?
OK, so picture this - open jam, maybe 15 people left in the room, we start blue bossa and this bass player just... stops. Tells the drummer his playing isn't conversational enough and starts name dropping elvin jones. Bro we're all tired and just trying to have fun why you gotta make it weird ๐

Youre favorite 90s jazz albums?
90s was probably the toughest decade for jazz newcomers and masters

I dont recomend starting to play jazz
It doesnt matter if youre an improvising genius like Lee Morgan, a skill grand master like Alan Holdsworth or a guy playing autistic avant garde for yourself in your room, you will reach plateau and start to go insane
Eventually you will break the plateau and be like "oh this is different and fun" but even these moments last nothing and youll start to go mad again
I offer two options for this
One is to become the guy who sings and plays songs that people want to hear Start to work on a set with hits by Foo Fighters, Blink 182, Michelle Branch, Hanson, Goo Goo Dolls and Verve But this will work only if youre not tone deaf; otherwise people will start to look weird at you and talk to each other while you play trying to make you stop
Another option is to play devotional religious mantras or hymns This option is great because music is not isolated here, its only part of a wider rite so you will not feel the need to make the next step on hare krishna hare hare

I am conflicted about Keith Jarrett
I have many of his music albums on vinyl, and often pop one in while I whip up a homemade caramel macchiato or mocchaccino. However, as soon as he starts groaning or grunting, I want to take my vinyl off. It makes me say "Ooooooooh, this hurts my ears. Why he gotta grunt???" I listen to the vinyl anyway, but I still let this one minor aspect make me not appreciate his music albums overall. The entire time I say "Eek, this makes my ears hurt." And I remark about it to my friends the entire time, if I'm listening to it with friends.

Bogdan coltrane
Coltranes son bogdan is never brought up online anyone know why? I know the Bulgarian jazz scene leaves a lot to be desired but as a descendent of Coltrane i would think bogdan would be getting more attention in the jazz world. Anyways whatโs your opinion on bogdan Coltrane?

HELP IM BEING JERKED AGAINST MY WILL
The cafe I work at is hosting a jazz trio and I only found out as they arrived to set up - Iโm being forced to listen to jazz standards and the trumpet player keeps locking eyes with me whilst groping his muffler
What legal action can I take - assuming I survive this sordid ordeal?
