I'm normally such an optimistic person and I'm just feeling so disappointed lately... starting to get so discouraged. A few months ago I was seeing a guy who ended it out of the blue, I finally get back into dating after feeling very down on myself about what happened and it seems like it's just a whole lot of nonsense. I'm very clear about wanting a commited monogamous relationship, and how I'm not wanting to just hookup, and how I want to actually get to know someone and form a real connection.
Even though I say that, still pretty quick almost every guy is inviting me over/asking to come over to my house, asking for nudes, or will even just say "hey wanna hookup?" or whatever else that makes it very obvious they are only wanting something casual. Like seriously is it that hard to understand that some people actually date with intention and don't want to sleep around with people they see no future with? I don't need to waste my time fucking guys I'm never gonna see again, what is the point?
Ugh. Dating sucks. People suck. Maybe it is time to be a crazy cat lady afterall lol

I just wanted to give a shoutout to the Brewhouse. I've had several friends from Clearwater go since the opening and they've all unanimously had horrible experiences but we attributed it to growing pains.
My wife just went to go have a snack and a beer before the fair and they flat out refused to serve her anything because it is by reservations only for the entire day and there is almost nobody inside. Zero attempt at accomodating is baffling. Absolutely never again will I step foot in there.

If you're not currently enrolled in TRU, don't go. Just do yourself a huge favour and avoid it. I used to be a huge advocate for TRU, you get lots of hands on time, your profs know you by name, it's in the middle of the city which is great for shopping. But I'm going into my SEVENTH year because TRU can't get its shit together.
I was enrolled in a FULL class (40/40 enrolled, probably some on the waitlist but i can't remember) and they just dropped it. I have some insight since the prof who was supposed to teach it is one of my coworkers mentors. He only wanted to teach it if he could be guaranteed to teach it more than once because it's a lot of material for him to learn to only teach it once - understandable. But now they've dropped the whole class and it will take me another semester to graduate and I was already pissed that it would take that long. It's a required course for my minor, I only took that as a minor because I was told that EVERY course would be offered EVERY semester so I should've been done this semester. And the online profs are a joke so I'd rather not do that but at this point I have no choice
Time and time again I've had frustrations with TRU. Don't go there if you can help it. The school is a joke
(Also, it wouldn't have taken me this long if I didn't have health issues and covid wasn't a thing and more TRU issues I'd rather not get into now. Most of my friends have taken 5 or 6 years and I should've been done after my 6th but things didnt work out and I can accept that. But it's getting very frustrating, I'm supposed to be working full time after this semester)
Edit: don't even get me started on the parking fiasco...

Traffic from Highway 5 is overflowing onto Highway 1. Then it overflows onto Columbia...
This is happening daily.
Please push your concil member to support building a new and upgraded Red Bridge.
We cannot handle 5 years of this...

Welcome to Kamloops - check out this forlorn room for rent for $1250. Note the door crudely mounted in a frame that’s open to the ceiling. It has a TV that’s 6 feet off the ground & perched on a plywood shelf. Most of the furniture is homemade poorly. Metal folding chairs in the ‘kitchen’. Grim, grim times await whoever is desperate enough to rent it.

Heads up on Halston bridge.
Cops have been standing behind the telephone pole on Kingston between Budget and Fix Auto getting people heading over the bridge coming back towards Brock.
They have been there the past two days around 4pm so there's a good chance they will be there Friday.
Shout out to all the people flashing their headlights coming the other way. Also shout out to my radar detector.

Hello People of the Kamloops.
I moved here for school about a year ago and have really struggled to make friends since i've moved here.
I Thought i would meet people in my program, but not a lot of success. I've found people are welcoming but very 'stay within their own groups' type of deal. Nobody seems to branch out a lot or introduce me to people. It's very isolating, and as an extrovert who needs to be around people i've really struggled.
I've seen a lot of suggestions to join groups and get out there, but i struggle with that too as i have a lot of social anxiety and even when i do go to those, people seem to have a lot of friends there and block me off.
I'm a 26 single lady who just wants to find some solid friends to do shit with. I find that people are very quiet here, like i'm a loud boisterous person and people get so put-off by that....
I like hiking, swimming, fishing, i want to learn how to crochet, i like birding, and other outdoor stuff, but i also love a good coffee shop and painting and such.
Any tips of help would be soooo appreciated.

I saw a post asking about current schooling around Kamloops, and it made me think about my elementary experience. Then it made me wonder about others on this page. Who knows, maybe we went to school together?!
Where did you go to school? Do you remember your favourite teacher? Is the school still open?
I'll go first:
I went to South Sahali Elementary for a couple of years, then to Happyvale Elementary. Happyvale is closed (though I think it's Continuing Ed now), but I believe South Sahali is still open. My favourite teacher was Mrs. Dimambro.

It's illegal to change lanes in an intersection. And dangerous too.
I've seen too many people coming down the left hand lane on the Summit connector, only to change lanes at the bottom into the right lane going to the North Shore. I'm really shocked there haven't been more accidents.
Get in the right lane by zipper merging at the top of the hairpin and stay there!
It's also illegal to smoke pot and drive too. Looking at you NT8 72P.

I posted here a couple of months ago asking for advice about trails and hotels because I was coming for a few days to watch the soccer tournament and spend some time hiking, and got a bunch of great replies.
I've never been to inland BC before, only a couple of snowboarding trips to Whistler. I have to tell you I absolutely fell in love with Kamloops. I did some wonderful trails, particular highlights being Paul Lake / Gibraltar Rock and Battle Bluff, and after 16 years living in Canada I finally saw the Canada I think the world thinks of.
But more than that, literally everyone I met in the bars and restaurants and cabs of Kamloops was so friendly and enthusiastic about your town. I only got back home to Toronto a couple of hours ago so I've definitely still got vacation head on, but if I were to leave Toronto - which might be on the cards - I'm struggling to think of somewhere I'd rather live than Kamloops. Regardless, I will definitely be back for more vacationing, so thank you for having such a wonderful and friendly town.
Specific shout outs to Dee at The Noble Pig, Reese at Red Collar, and all the staff at Iron Road.
See you all soon!

Unfortunately having the visit emerg isn’t ideal for anyone, and most people don’t want to be there by choice. You go from one waiting room, to the next, to finally getting a room for the doctor to initially see you, then if you get further testing done you get kicked out of the room to another open seating area waiting for results. Not blaming anyone, as I know it’s busy and everyone is working hard. In the waiting room I saw so many people leave as “it was too busy..” If they have the ability or choice to come back another day, was it really an emergency? We’ve been waiting 3+ hours since the doctor said “it’ll be 2 minutes to just check the results”. Been here over 8 hours and still waiting, with an infant. And the doctor is very busy, we can see him going around to different patients. I just wish there was better staffing/more support. If the city had true walk in clinics, I do think it would alleviate a lot of the traffic in the emergency department. Sorry for the rant.

I look forward to every Saturday so that I can get a coffee from Hey Neighbour Coffee Roasters at the farmer's market. Any coffee lovers out there, it's actually the best coffee I've had in a long time (and he roasts it fresh locally). The owner has been in the industry for 13 years! I can't wait until his café opens in a couple months ☕️ In the meantime, check out his cart at the market if you get a chance.. I really don't think you'll be disappointed (unless you mind waiting in a long line)!!

In 2011 I moved from Kamloops to Vancouver. I moved back in 2017. Not one year since I've been back has there been a winter sustainable to a backyard ice rink for more than a few weeks.
This has to be affecting more in the local environment right? Besides the increase in wildfire activity, can we expect other effects in the Interior like changes in flora and fauna?

Thoughts?
The City is trialing alcohol being allowed near the Bandshell in Riverside Park for the summer. People in the comments (Instagram) are sooo against it. What do you guys think? I don't see a problem and think it's great. People have been bringing/sneaking booze to Music in the Park since the dawn of time 😂

I was riding my bike and just happened to stop at a bench by the seaplane ramp and dock to have a drink about 8 pm.
4 international students (a guess, 20-25 year old men) from India parked a newer brown BMW and went down to the float plane dock.
I wasn't paying attention to them until 2 of them jumped in the river. I immediately thought "Not a great place to swim". One guy tried to swim back to the dock and gassed out after 5 strokes and then turned to shore. Other guy was kinda floating.
First guy starts bobbing and flailing. I scramble the rocks yelling "call 911" to all the people (8-10) standing nonchalantly on the dock and shore. I dove in and had to swim 15 m to get to him. His friend was trying to help him and they were both actively drowning. I was really apprensive about approaching, I didn't even know if they spoke English, I just said "it's OK it's OK its ok" and grabbed the most drowning guy. The way he went down, I wasn't sure if he was coming up when I got him.
It was scary as all hell for me. I've called for CISM through my employer.
I got his arm and kept him up and kicked for shore. His friend managed on his own once he just had to swim for himself.
We went about 500m before I got him to shore. It took my everything, and I'm very fit and an excellent swimmer, lots of surfing and open water experience. The current pulled us away from shore. It was really tough.
Anyways, here's my point.
There is not enough signage warning swimmers. $10,000 in signs placed around town would probably save 1-2 lives every few years. We had a drowning in at Mac Island 2 years ago.
Here's my other point, and far more important: a few people saw this and did fuck all. Not a peep. A few more people were just not paying attention.
One guy followed us on the trail and then came down to the shore as I got them close. I was calling for help. He put his phone and keys down, like he was going to jump in and help me with the last bit, and then stood there looking at us. I called for help 4x and he just watched.
This part is nightmare material for me, I'm sure everyone has had the nightmare where you're calling for help and people close by just don't hear or see you.
This went from jumping in to actively drowning in 20 seconds. I don't know what the fuck everyone was paying attention to, but it wasn't the present moment or what was going on around them.
I'm 100% confident 2 people would have died if I didn't jump in, which in itself is questionably risky and maybe worth more discussion. I did a quick risk assessment and believed in my ability to intervene, but i only had 20 seconds.
I did record a few videos after I got out describing what just happened and put them on my 'gram (@bubbasnowboards) as Reels if anyone wants more deets.

We are being ripped off in Kamloops. Drive 20 minutes east or west and prices are at least 5 cents/L cheaper. That gas comes through Kamloops before getting to those stations.
