I was a very young manager at a large chain deli. Think salad bar and muffalettas. I moved to the middle of nowhere and got paid peanuts to open a store for them with promises of reimbursement on college classes, textbooks that kind of thing. I was worked like a dog 13 hours a day managing this place morning shift to close for 16k a year in about 1998. After we got the store up and running I signed up for some entry-level college courses and the boss man tells me that they're not going to reimburse me for expenses towards college but they would withhold that from my pay for me so I wouldn't go into debt and could pay it. That closing shift as I'm doing all of the work after learning all this amazing information. I am closing tills in the manager's office; I see a bank bag standing open that my GM left there. I open it up and see all of the paychecks for my peers. Granted I barely turned 18 at this point but I had been with the company for 2 years. Some of these other managers had only been there since the open. I find a check for a guy who's about 25 and has a college degree and is also maybe the absolute worst employee we had on the schedule. He was making $35k a year. I proceeded to let my employees go home, pushed all of the customers out of the restaurant. Took the cash bin I was checking and threw it across the middle of the dining room. I left everything out with a note that said go fuck yourself taped to the manager's office door. I locked up and went home.
Edit: typo from 4 yrs to 2 yrs... Voice to text is a bitch.
