Is it safe for a young foreign female to explore bars in the centre alone?
Posting on here as I couldn’t find any useful Facebook groups relevant to foreigners in Kragujevac.
Some comments I read on here whilst browsing got me concerned.
One person claimed that some bars/clubs are less safe than others. Another person recommended foreigners stay in groups and to not appear too foreign to avoid being ‘targeted’.
Please share your opinions/experiences.
Is it safe for a young woman to explore bars alone at night? Are certain bars/clubs really unsafe? Am I likely to be ‘targeted’ being visibly foreign?
A little background info about me:
I’m a British Pakistani woman (non religious).
I look racially ambiguous (light/medium skin tone).
Sometimes I look Arab or North African especially on days I choose to dress in a more ‘ethnic’ style.
When I’m more tanned I could be mistaken for a gypsy.
Therefore due to looking different and not typically being considered ‘ugly’ I tend to be more noticeable.
I prefer non alcoholic drinks so will always be in full control of my faculties.
I don’t plan on staying out too late, but I might end up losing track of time if I meet interesting people.
I don’t ‘party’.
I’m new to the city but not new to Serbia.
I now live here permanently.
My Serbian is very limited.
I’m keen on socialising and getting out more but don’t currently have anyone who can join me on evenings out.
I plan on randomly approaching people hoping to strike up interesting conversations (I’m not sure how that could be interpreted by locals).
I don’t know if any of the above background info is even relevant but I thought I’d include it anyway.
