💬Discussion Am I the only one who admires Getafe? 😭

Yes, they are horrible to play against. Yes, they are full of crappy antics.. And yes, everyone hates them but they take that as a badge of honor. They bring something different to the table in the league. And Pepe Bordalas, what is there to say.. Not fun, but admirable..

I think that Bordalas does an incredible job, but at the same time the owners are horrible, he's horrible and he makes the players he has horrible as well.

If refs actually applied the rules properly in every game that Getafe played they would never finish with more than 9 players on the pitch.

Getafe and Mason Greenwood. What a beautiful combination

Yes agreed. But that’s part of their package. They manage get away with it because they pull those antics so much 😭

I swear, everyone’s so busy hating on them they forget how elite it is to be THAT unapologetically annoying 😂 Every team cries when they face Getafe—that’s the point!! They don’t want to play ball, they want to make your life miserable for 90+ minutes, and somehow still snatch a result. It’s art. Ugly, gritty, no-nonsense football art.

shit tier badge, shit tier history, shit tier fans in the sense that they always support getafe as a second club with real madrid as their primary club. they're kind of like an MLS club in Spain.

u/Midnight_Thoughts77 2d ago

Their chairman is a Real Madrid socio 😭

my point exactly. trash club. so many historic clubs in spain that i wish had their place like real zaragoza or deportivo la coruña.

Recreativo de Huelva. Come back up please.

Sorry but Girona fits every point of your argument. With the added point that Girona is owned by oil sheiks who also own Man City and use the club as a talent pool

yeah those are bad aspects to the current formation of girona but they're a club from 1930 with a town of their own. not an exurb of barcelona like getafe is of madrid. i can't fault girona fans for the city shit. they have actual fans.

Getafe’s origins actually date to those times, 30’ and 40s, just not as Getafe itself but as merger of clubs. Founded by Getafe locals, unlike other big Spanish clubs that were founded by Swiss people and meant to be the club for the ‘expats’ of that time.

Getafe does have more club members than Girona.

And sorry to say, but Getafe is its own city, its not a suburb in Madrid. It does belong to the community of Madrid. The same way Girona belongs to the community of Catalunya.

that's essentially fake history claiming they're from the 30s since they weren't a professional club and didn't have fans. it was essentially some friends who played football and even a real madrid supporter group. they were in the 7th division in the 80s.

getafe is a commuter exurb of madrid city. girona is a different province from barcelona. girona is a club for the province of girona essentially. you can't deny that getafe has served as a close feeder club to real madrid for decades with their chairman being an actual fan of real madrid.

The club was called Peña Madridista Getafe at one point lol. they're a complete joke.

Do you have the same view of Villarreal? It’s also a plastic club bankrolled by Mercadona from a 50k people town

2

u/[deleted] 2d ago

i used to when they first broke on the scene in the late 2000s yes but theyve built a unique history and are essentially a club for castellon at this point, not just vila-real. but also note none of my criticisms of getafe are about bankrolling. they're about the fans and management having dual loyalty to real madrid. villarreal does not get along with valencia, although it might have in the past.

for example, i don't hate on rayo vallecano despite them being for a small neighborhood of madrid because they have passionate fans who only support rayo vallecano.

Exactly

Nah you not alone. Every league needs a bastard club. Not sure why people always get and at them. They are a thorn in everyone's side but you need that in every league. Would be boring without the variation

Getafe are the perfect villains of the league. What Bordalas does every year with their shit squad is nothing short of miraculous. Look at Uche last year and Alex Sola this year. He’s taking these random ass players from lower divisions and making them look like proper great players.

only respect in the sense that their horrendous toxic and violent way of playing allows them to compete with teams with way better budget.

But outside of that, I honestly find them to be disgusting. Disgusting and dirty play coupled with hiring the domestic abuser Greenwood..... disgusting. .

1

u/Midnight_Thoughts77 2d ago

Greenwood stuff disgusting.. But yes, the brand of football kind of helps them stay up and competitive.. They offer something different..

2

u/Axelardus Barcelona 2d ago

Well it surely is different, but horrendous to watch for a neutral viewer of a Getafe match.

1

u/Midnight_Thoughts77 2d ago

Yes, I agree. I said that above, its a horrendous watch but you need a team like that in the league.

1

u/Calm-Cockroach-4220 1d ago

I’m sorry but their game is just at the limit of what players would be ok to suffer before going to a fist fight.

Lower number of game time in the league. Constantly breaking the tempo so the games looks disgusting to watch.

Horrible team needs to get thrown to secunda.

3

u/flixbeat04 2d ago

I don't admire them, but yeah huge respect for them, because of these teams our top teams always try to brainstorm more and more tactical ideas and innovations in formations. But it really hurts when they play against your fav team.

How can someone be a Getafe fan and watch them "play football" week in, week out? Like how do you derive any joy from that?

1

u/Midnight_Thoughts77 2d ago

Some people find joy in pain mate 😅

1

u/Ok-Ingenuity465 2d ago

I admire Getafe. Managing to be competitive with a small fanbase, limited resources and a fraction of the budget of teams like Barca and Real. I also don't blame Getafe for playing Haram football. If the resources were spread more evenly they would not need to.

1

u/Calm-Cockroach-4220 1d ago

This argument about being able to compete with top team is so wrong.

First they don’t compete with the top 3 they compete with the top 15

Secondly teams like Rayo Vallecano, Betis or Mallorca are able to play nice football with approximately the same budget and constantly rank higher than Getafe.

1

u/Magui___ 2d ago

how can you be a fan of that? because for me it's not football...

1

u/Mimikri22228 2d ago

Gatafe matlab? Tyo UFC walla bhanya ho?😭

1

u/jmsy1 Athletic Club 2d ago

look at their limited finances, shitty stadium, awkward suburb location, and it's easy to admire their ability to stay up and be a feared team that can beat anyone else on any day.

1

u/fionn14 1d ago

I wish them relegation every year 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

1

u/Calm-Cockroach-4220 1d ago

It’s a despicable regen with less money of the atrocious Atletico Madrid game. As Alavez it’s disgusting and I’d prefer if they got both relegated and we never saw that shitball again.

You’re alone in this

There are near 49 million people living in Spain. Let's say that 2 million of those (and I think it's a low estimation) follow football and know about Getafe.

Getafe has more than 13.000 ticket holders, as far as I know. And let's say that they have (again, low estimation) double the fans.

You also have to consider foreign people who also know about the team.

ARE YOU REALLY ASKING IF YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE? ARE YOU STUPID?

3

u/Midnight_Thoughts77 2d ago

Obviously I meant outside of their fanbase, in online discourses. Sorry I didn’t spell out every specific detail mate 🙏
