Rust Check? Too much rust? Not enough rust? Ask Here!

Hi All,

We are going to try to consolidate the pre purchase or otherwise rust inquires asking if a rig has too much rust and how to approach it as far as shopping for a new to you truck and beyond.

We have a lot of these threads where people are asking the same questions and rather than have each thread die on the vine as far as useful information goes, by having them all right here in one thread, people can use it as a catalog or guide for what to look for and if people are willing to share sold or bought prices for each truck that we are inspecting, we can all use this as a tool to gauge the market and also the wide variety of condition that all generations of Land Cruisers are in at any given point in time.

Show Me Your Sensor Lifts

Post image
Upvotes

Just got this 2013 LX570. Traded in my 4Runner for it. I've seen a lot of posts about the sensor lifts and the ease of how it can be done. I've found a few videos and plan on doing it and also put some new shoes on it too. Not a big fan of the chrome they went with.

Can I see your LX with the sensor lift?

Call me smitten but this Underground color looks incredible on my new 250–I love the navy undertone. Might look even more badass with a silver/white roof. Am I crazy?

First up is some new tires!

275/75R16 KO3 on my OEM swing-out carrier?

Hey y’all,

So I’ve got a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser VX Limited (RHD, imported). I’ve upgraded the tires to BFGoodrich KO3s 275/75R16 and was wondering about fitment on the rear swing-out spare carrier.

From what I’ve read, even 285/75R16s fit under the truck in the stock spare location, so I assume 275s should be no issue on a swing-out. But I want to double-check with folks who actually run this setup. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Including some pics for reference

Vehicle stolen/recovered (see my history for that post). Trim piece was replaced but it doesn't look right. I am going to tell the shop to fix it. Can anyone post a picture of theirs?

It looks like too big of a gap at the bottom.

2000 LX470 AHC refresh advice

Post image
52 Upvotes

Just picked up a very clean 2000 LX470 with 150k miles. It’s been a southern truck it’s entire life and overall in incredible shape, but the suspension feels really bouncy. I’ve got it cranked to sport right now just to keep it stable because comfort mode is all over the place. The AHC still works and raises/lowers fine, but ride quality isn’t where it should be. Sometimes I’ll notice the front end raising or lowering slightly when I’m stopped at a light.

I’d like to get it back to riding properly. Long term I’ll likely add armor and extra weight, but for now the goal is to fix the bounce and restore comfort. Ideally I’d like to go in the direction of an AHC+ type build, but I’m trying to figure out what the right balance is between a full refresh, some upgrades, and not overspending too early.

What should I be replacing first? Accumulators, shocks, sensors, or something else? Should I tackle it all at once or stage it out? What’s the right build order so I don’t waste labor or have to redo alignments?

Do most people stick with factory parts here, or is aftermarket worth considering?

Looking for advice from folks who have refreshed the AHC on these trucks. What worked best for you?

New to me. Slowly chipped away at the chrome delete, grille swap, paint correction, some other TLC, and ultimately new rims and tires. Looks like a completely different vehicle!

Hdj81 linkage number?

Post image

Botched it big time this morning. I was making a few pump adjustments and went on a test drive without clipping this linkage on.

Long story short, she’s gone and I need a new one. I can’t find this linkage on any of the schematics. Only the longer rod up above it.

Any ideas? I need one ASAP

I just won an auction on Cars&Bids for a 2024 Land Cruiser First Edition from someone in Sun Prairie, WI. The reserve wasn't met though. If that's you (or if you know the guy) could you message me and hopefully we can work something out offline?

2024 Headlights - HELP

I’ve been looking into adjusting my headlights but I’m just not confident enough to attempt it yet. Has anyone done this yet? The shop that installed my leveling kit claims they adjusted them but I don’t believe they did. The guy actually said “they probably need to be adjusted more”.

Side note - I am proud of myself bc I replaced my taillights with an aftermarket set ✨all by myself✨ which included removing the center piece to install the strip light so I know I can do it but I would feel better if someone could tell me how they did it before I just try to figure it out lol. Thank you in advance!

p.s. I’m just a girl

2000 LC window trim paint peeling - How to remove?

Thumbnail

The black trim paint below the window has peeled in most places. It was uncomfortable to rest your arm on with the windows down. I was able to get most off of the driver’s side windows with a razor. There are some places where it’s still stuck though and the adhesive doesn’t want to give. Any thoughts on how to remove it there? Eventually I’m going to repaint or vinyl wrap, but that will be a while.
