Scapegoat for a shambles of a team.

If it wasn't Matt, it'd be Ryan or Josh

But it was Matt. He has no interest in playing football

Weak. Its a team game.

Lets talk about how shit Cullen or Knight were if you like 👍

Kept them onside for the first goal and gave away the corner that resulted in the second, brutal player

Fuck the international representative 'team'. Time to invest in OUR game for once and stop expecting another Association to do the work on 'our' behalf. FAIlure breeds contempt

Gotta clean up the FAI first. Not gonna be any real investment while it's still a shambles

Irish football is much more than just the men's senior international team

Yeah, like the women’s senior team, where world class players are treated like amateurs and because of that we fail to qualify for tournaments against vastly inferior opposition in playoffs.

Eyebrows on their cheeks

True. You can’t expect a strong international team if there isn’t a proper long term plan to build the infrastructure at a grassroots level roots level, which in turn strengthens the domestic league.

Pick me! Me! Look at me!

An entire stadium of people, at least 50% of whom will do nothing to support LOI football within the next year but who will still grumble about the men’s and women’s senior international teams.

As long as we can get a handful of passable English lads with thick cockney accents that have some dubious connection to the country to tog out for us they'll be happy enough

Good thing is they'll never need to update the text there for any reeling in the years.

I'm lost, what exactly do you mean?

We need to write up a proclamation and storm the GPO.

Duh!

When people talk in allusions and say something like "you know", it is normally a call for violence. Do you want to hurt the national men's team?

u/leo_murray Cork City 2d ago

thankfully, i do not want to hurt anybody!

Thankfully due to the influx of young folks from other countries/continents, the gene pool is expanding. In 20 years we will have it all. Very excited

Pointless if we’ve a massively underfunded youth setup

No infrastructure due to years of corruption. Still a fair bit of corruption going on today

I said that 25 years ago. Couldn’t wait for 5 years ago. We’re not much better to be fair….

u/Particular-Split-292 Finn Harps 2d ago

Well we have gone backwards from 25 years ago if anything 🤣 the talent in the Irish team back then is probably the strongest its ever been

I don’t see how someone’s background will save the national team.

You could have a team of 2nd generation Brazilians, Argentinians, Spanish, Italians & Germans but for the most part we’d still rely on them being developed off the island.

Even the players that do come through the LOI & domestic academies are invisible until they fly over the magic water which improves them instantly.

This is delusion. We have a famous multi-cultural national team over here in Germany, and since we have it, our football has gone from world champions to the world's laughing stock. The manager complained about the team's lacking fighting spirit after the recent 0-2 defeat to Slovakia. Everyone knows why it's lacking, but no one dares to articulate it.

u/ConorKDot Shelbourne 2d ago

A multi-cultural national team won the World Cup in 2014, so I'm not sure what you're alluding to here. The issue for Germany and many other large nations is the fetishisation of stats and overcoaching of young players. The individuality is coached out of kids these days.

The team is infamous for its sloppy and dispassionate performances. Compared to the women's team which is 100% German they lack everything.

I really hope they prove me wrong tonight against your ugly twin from the north 😉.
