Discussion / Question What's going on at Athlone Town?
The mens team is rock bottom of the First Division, while Colin Fortune has left the womans team despite doing very well in Europe and sitting top of the Women's Premier Division. What's gone wrong?

News So seeing the Leinster senior cup posts today, I looked up the Munster Senior Cup and I found a little fact
Royal Engineers the winners of 1875 FA Cup in England won the Munster Senior Cup in 1902-1903! Crazy or what?

Discussion / Question FAI cup yellow cards and suspensions. Crazy rule or fair?
So Harps and Bray played in the last round, and it was a feisty enough game. 14 yellow cards and a straight red, the kind of competitive edge you get from knockout football.
Billy O'Neill gets a straight red and serves his suspension domestically so misses league games. Max Hutchinson and Conor Tourish both pick up their second bookings of the tournament which doesn't add to their league tally, instead they're both suspended for the quarter final against Cork.
It seems mad that the cup is so quick to ban people for bookings and has it's own separate criteria but straight reds carry over to the domestic league.
Harps are going to be a lot weaker for the Cork visit now which is a huge pity, whilst Bray were weaker in the league when chasing down the top two.

Discussion / Question Wtf is going on with the Leinster Senior Cup?
Story lads so some Leinster Senior Cup games happened, Bohs were meant to play Dundalk in their semi final but it was called off? Also in saying that Pats just played their quarter final against Drogheda and now will play St. Mochtas in the 2nd semi final, or in this case the only one as Dundalk apparently got a walk over? (According to wiki). This cup competition has been a headache to keep track of π

News Kerry FC attendance
Hi all,
Was just looking at the first division games, Is this a typo on FAi connect or was there really only 48 people at the Kerry game - I very strongly suspect there is a digit missing.

Discussion / Question Could Pico Lopes be the most successful Irish born player of our generation at International level?
Pico has played at least 37 times for Cape Verde, most of them full 90 minute appearances where he is responsible for marshalling their defence.
They qualified for the 2023 AFCON where with him in the team they topped a group that included Egypt and Ghana. They made it to the Quarter finals where they only lost on peno's to South Africa.
This was after an appearance at the 2021 AFCON (delayed 'til 2022) where they also escaped the groups, going out to Sadio ManΓ©'s Senegal in the Round of 16.
Right now they are topping their group and on course for direct qualification for the World Cup. If they can beat Cameroon, or even hold them to a draw in their upcoming fixture at home on Tuesday he will be odds on to make it to his third international competition.
Hope I dont put the jinx on them now, but even if they dont make it in the end it has to be said it's some run for the chap. Worthy of more recognition than it gets.
We've had some class internationals in the league before, Joey Ndo stands out in particular as one of the best... but have we ever had one with so much international success, particularly while playing a key role for their team?
If Ireland also fail to qualify and Cape Verde do then he will go down as hands down the most successful International from Ireland in the past couple of generations IMO

Discussion / Question League of Ireland vs. Scottish Premiership
Scottish football fan here. I've always been curious about the LoI, it's been growing a lot in the past few years. Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne are in the Conference League this season. NIFL sides like Linfield and Larne struggled to get past them. I watched COPA 90's documentary and it intrigued me a lot.
What are the similarities and differences between the League of Ireland and the Scottish Premiership? Do you think the LoI will grow more in the future? Which are the best players?

Discussion / Question Harps fundraising - monster draw
It feels like the words Financial Difficulty and Harps are going to be irrevocably intertwined for evermore but I have never felt quite as angry about the situation the club finds itself in right now.
To be treated this way by the football powers that be feels like they are really punching down.
So, whilst I know most clubs are doing their best to raise their own funds at the moment, I would just like to drop this in here. It is of course not in my best interests as it means I am less likely to sweep the board of the prizes but any extra tickets that Harps can sell would help.
π ποΈ Tickets are just β¬10 each (3 for β¬20, 8 for β¬50, 20 for β¬100). Help us raise β¬90k by Sept 12th π https://finnharps.ie/annualdraw
Thanks a million for supporting Harps πβ½
