Mod announcement New Post Guidance: Minimum Text Requirement on Posts

There has been an increase of posts featuring non-descriptive titles and little to no body text, sometimes only with a picture or series of pictures. These low-effort posts do little to contribute to the community. Posts with only a Title and pictures can also be barriers to people with accessibility needs, since it can be be difficult to see the details. This also can affect people who are using Reddit on phones & other devices with small screens.

Therefore, we are adding new rules to LingLing40hours which require a minimum amount of characters in the Post Title and body text. Spaces or punctuation characters on either end are not counted.

Question: How can I meet the minimum character requirement?

Answer: Ensure you’ve credited the original content creator. Use the body text to answer the 5 Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and How questions. Examples are: Who are the subjects? What is going on? Where does it take place? When did it occur? Why are you posting about this? How is this important to you or relevant to LL40 Hours?

Question: What if my post doesn’t meet the minimum text requirement?

Answer: Depending on the type of post, a message about the minimum text requirement appears and you will not be able to submit until the requirement is met. The post may also be removed by AutoMod. If the post is removed, you can repost with additional information.

If you have any questions, please contact the Mod Team through ModMail. Thank you,

The LL40hrs Mod Team

Question/Advice This might be a bit embarrassing, but i have a question for 4-string instrument players.

i’m writing a fanfiction, and it’s a musician AU. my question is this—how difficult would it be to switch between two 4-string instruments? like this—a violinist is given a cello. how long would it take to adjust/learn to play it? would it be easy or hard? like learning a whole new instrument, or just applying knowledge from the first instrument?

i know switching from a bowed instrument (violin, cello) to a plucked instrument (bass guitar) would be difficult—but HOW difficult?

i’m a vocalist and the only instrument i can reliably play is a piano, so the world of stringed instruments is a fascinating yet alien topic. thank you in advance for any info!

Question/Advice Can anyone give piece ideas for practise?

Upvotes

I’m a violinist of 4-5 years. I’ve dabbled in some Mozart (Eine Klein). want to play some Mozart Concerto, but I don’t know which one I should learn. I can shift 1st through 4th position comfortably, 5-6th position it’s gets kind of funky and I can do vibrato. The hardest pieces I’ve learnt are: the Bach double violin concerto and up to the 8th line of the Sibelius violin concerto (I’m not lingling.

Go practise

Question/Advice I just wanted to ask because I'm curious...

Is there any arrangement for Bach concerto for 2 violins for piano? And I don't mean accompaniment part. I mean just full on piano. Like is there any arrangement for the piece that is arranged for piano to play both 1st violin and 2nd violin?

If you do find an arrangement, could you please put a link in your comment? Thank you so much and have a nice day!

Discussion Eddy's not a Dad, he's an Uncle!

Belle Chen, Eddy's big sister, had a baby recently. This picture is from her Instagram. We always joke about Brett and Eddy being Dads and Grandpas, but we miss the important part of them being Uncles. Hope Eddy had a chance to see her when he was in Paris because she lives in London.

Also for those who don't know, she was their accompanist for their London show in 2019. She's also a gifted composer with a couple of albums. Her music's on Spotify, and probably other places.

Discussion Importance of Security During Events

With the new stalking situation, I know it sounds expensive and maybe a bit extreme, but I really recommend that TwoSet consider hiring a bodyguard — at least for shows in big cities or events where personal security might be more of a concern.

A lot of live podcasts and shows have made the mistake of not having proper security, and once a fan or audience member crosses the line, things can escalate very quickly.

Discussion Soloists twoset should react to?

Who are some soloists you think Twoset should react to? I'll go first: Kyung wha chung is a korean violinist and her recordings of bach sonatas and partitas are my favourite!

Meme I found the epic Beethoven urinals so I made the full version of it

FYI the definition for "epic Beethoven urinals" is when there are four urinals arranged in the order of V-V-V-iii. This is in Galeria mall in Jogjakarta, and when I came across this, I knew what I have to do.

this counts as practice, right

i usually draw my characters in a very stylized way and needed to prsctice with real people. so happened to think of tsv while doing it... second pic are initial guidelines after tracing their actual photos composers pictured are Rachmaninov, Mozart and Liszt respectively.

Mod announcement Reminder: Minimum Text Requirement on Posts

To encourage better post quality, we are adding new rules to LingLing40hours which require a minimum amount of characters in the Post Title and body text. Spaces or punctuation characters on either end are not counted. Check the pinned post about this rule for the full reason of the change.

Question: How can I meet the minimum character requirement?

Answer:

  • Ensure you’ve credited the original content creator. Explain how you came across it.
  • Include alternative text for any attached images. Alternative text is a description of the picture. It allows people who are blind or have low-vision to understand the image with screen-reader technology. This is also useful for those with small screens or have slow connections.
  • Use the body text to answer the 5 Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and How questions. Examples are: Who are the subjects? What is going on? Where does it take place or Where are you located if you’re asking for instrument /teacher advice? When did it occur? Why are you posting about this? How is this important to you or relevant to LL40 Hours?
  • if you're linking a news article, summarize the article by explaining how it's relevant and encourage people to read the full article to form their own opinion.

Question: What if my post doesn’t meet the minimum text requirement?

Answer: Depending on the type of post, a message about the minimum text requirement appears and you will not be able to submit until the requirement is met. The post may also be removed by AutoMod. Please always check your notifications after submitting content. If the post is removed, you can repost with additional information.

Question/Advice Positive reinforcement in practicing music?

I’ve only ever had negative reinforcement in my life. How can I positively reward myself when studying or practicing?

Preferably not chocolates or any sweets. And not something that I should be allowed to do anyway (like watch a movie). What is something that can help?

Thank you very much!!!

Discussion La Campanella Battle. Brett + Eddie vs Sophie. Violin gang vs piano gang.

Also this would sound so good. Do you think we can get them to do it?

In more seriousness, have you seen a performance like that? I'm so curious how it would sound. Like if the piano and violin would respond to each other with the next line and try to steal the show back

Ps. If you don't have Marfan's syndrome, do you need to make a devil deal to play Paganini?

Discussion Violin analysis from North Korea orchestra

Just saw a new song from the DPRK on youtube where the violin section was visable in the camera section for a decently long amount of time, it would be interesting if Brett and Eddie analyzed it. It seemed pretty in synch but its a bit hard to tell. Also might be interesting if they compiled a lot of songs to analyze the north korean orchestra, lol

Discussion Trying to Identify a Performance

I've been trying to identify the last performance in the "You VIOLA, You Scream" video, but havent had any luck. From what I saw, its a large-ish scale performance with Ithzak Perlman as one of the violinists and John Williams conducting, but every time I tried to look for a performance like that, it always showed results for the Schindler's List soundtrack

Sheet music I have the rarest piece in the world that isn't performed.

This is Khataturians handwriting. You can see his famous red pencil marking on the bottom. This is a cantata about Stalin's childhood called: Stalin's Childhood And Youth created by the Georgian composer, Grigol Kiladze, but Khataturian notated it for him. The Tbilisi Conservatory almost threw it away because they didn't value it, but my father bought it on time, and now, it's in my mini-libary.

Frederic Chopin. originally for a death anniversary. i misremembered and thought that he passed in September, so ended up drawing a month early as for the unhinged amount of ?s in the title, it's the character requirement. i don't know how word count = higher quality post, but i have to comply anyway

Reminder: Please report posts and comments that break the rules, and do not engage

Hey, Ling Ling wannabes! This is your periodic reminder to report rule-breaking posts and comments, and to not engage with them.

We are trying to ensure that rule-breaking posts get removed as soon as possible, but we are not always able to react quickly. It would be helpful if sub members would report these posts for violating the rules, rather than commenting on them. As soon as they receive 2 reports, these posts will be removed automatically by Automod, and quarantined until a human mod can take a closer look. Certain reports are also routed to Reddit admins, if the reported items violate site-wide rules.

No one, except Reddit admins, will know who reported anything.

Also, please keep in mind that if you want to officially bring anything to the mods' attention, the best way to do that is to send a modmail.** Modmails go to all the mods at once, allowing us to have a discussion about whatever issues are brought up. DMs and chats to moderators will be ignored.

Here's some more information about reporting and what happens when you report things.

Thanks for all your help keeping this a safe and fun sub!
