I think it’s even worse than that, I think they legitimately do not realize what side they’re fighting for. They’ve already fallen for the shaping of the discourse conservatives do. They actually think they’re being even handed when they mildly or indirectly criticize the right, and go HARD on the left.
One of my longtime friends is exactly like this and it’s legitimately sad to witness. He’s an otherwise smart guy, but has somehow gotten so brain broken on what’s “left” and “right”, that he’s 100% convinced he’s “in the middle” even though he blatantly is on the right nowadays.
He’ll say shit like “I don’t fully support either party and simply call it how I see it” (and he 100% believes that). Yet 95% of his political criticism is directed at the Left, and theres always excuses and whataboutisms when it comes to Trump.
