It's not even about what Trump says, I'm from EU, but it seems that conservative mind is the same everywhere

As a former conservative... yep.

I had this mad cognitive dissonance going on, like I was trying to fight my childhood indoctrination. For some reason it was even harder to shake off than religion (I knew I was agnostic/not catholic when i was still in catholic HS).

A voice in the back of my mind knew those weren't actually my values, but I would just ignore it and double down.

Do you know how you ended up overcoming them? Without a doubt its pretty rare and commendable for someone to drop very deep rooted beliefs.

Just a combination of aging, covid, getting laid off and seeing past the bullshit during trumps 1st term.

yeah the american bullshit spreads everywhere, all over twitter, every conservative just seems to think insane batshit things that stemmed from america even if they arent even conceivably an issue in other countries

It's main commonality is being rigid and inflexible to change. Of course accepting new information is hard.
