The real travesty on that page is Lorena explaining why she is with Pea.

Thoughtful reply. Now that you mention it, if I could go back and unread Laredo, my life would be much richer and more fulfilling.

Pea Eye and Lorena? Tf?

This book is immediately not canonical

This book was written in many ways to disrupt the canon of the television mini series Return to Lonesome Dove because the author was not involved and rumored to be salty about it. So you get to pick your canon.

Pea Eye is a good, kind, gentle, and patient man in all the books. It absolutely does make sense in my mind for Lori to want one of those if she wanted any. She has had flashy, handsome, young, and monied. None of them made her feel safe except Gus, who is probably 20 years older than P and didn’t decide to live for her. Lorena has two motivating factors- freedom and safety. Pea Eye Parker absolutely offers both of those things. He also has as good idea as anyone what happened to her and in a society that ostracizes women for being assaulted, that matters. He also knows how she made her living and still respects her and treats her gently. He also is a passive person who is happy to let her run the show, which she needs tin order to feel safe and probably is just part of her personality to begin with, which is the same reason Clara chose Bob Allen over Gus.

Pea Eye would be a great man for Lorie. Which is exactly why she’d never be with him.

Right before Lorena whacks off Call’s leg she tells him she didn’t stay who she was and he doesn’t have to either. Lori doesn’t owe lack of growth to the reader and that is for sure not what she gave.

The Lonesome Dove books seem to have editing issues generally.

I have noticed it especially in Commanche Moon

Same. My paperback has these formatting issues every third page or so. I asked one time on this sub or another and remember getting told that I was an idiot for asking. My question is, how does it happen?
