Shopping/Services Are Coffee Balls Sold in Luxembourg?

Thumbnail

Hi all,

We recently bought a Coffee B coffee maker that is using compostable coffee balls instead of aluminium capsules. So far, the system has been launched in Germany, France and Switzerland.
As we’d typically stock up on coffee when passing through Luxembourg, I am wondering whether Coffee B coffee balls are being sold in there already. Luxembourgish petrol stations always seem to be heaven on earth. So maybe…

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing your insights.

Activities Any recommendations for Japanese classes in Luxembourg?

I'm interested in learning Japanese and was wondering if anyone knows of places in Luxembourg that offer in-person classes (schools, cultural associations, courses, etc.).

I’ve already started some self-study with Minna no Nihongo and hiragana practice, but I’d really like to join a structured class with a teacher and maybe other learners.

If you’ve taken classes here or know of good programs, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Huge thanks from animals of Ukraine

(Note: all photos and experiences are from days ago)

I wanted to see a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our drive to bring pet food to the suffering animals of Ukraine. I believe we gathered at least 900 kg of food which we distributed to five different groups between Lviv and [redacted] where I am today with the Ukrainian Marines (we left a few bags of cat dog food for the pets that helped the Marines just get through the day).

The most amazing shelter was in Dnipro. From the outside, it looked like a rundown shanty, but the inside was one of the nicest shelters I’ve ever seen. There were special rooms for FIV positive Cats, sick cats, disabled cats, cats, cats ready for adoption, old cats, and kittens. It took every ounce of strength to leave that place without a few in my pocket!

Along the way, we saw many sad things. There’s a cat who comes around the house where I’m staying. She looks very sick and has a terrible eye infection. I don’t know what to do for her as I don’t have the capacity to move her. It’s likely that she will just die, but that’s a reality of life here. I’m in a village that’s not far from the front line where children and people still live. You cannot save everyone, sadly. What I did for this little baby is to just give her affection, to make sure she experiences love.

I will try to list the shelters that we supported in comments.

Beware of those

After listing my car, someone approaches, ‘with strong interest’ of my car at asking price, but ask me to purchase a history report in a fishy website and promise for reimbursement at meeting.

Ask Luxembourg Mortgage timelines

We placed an offer and it was accepted.

The owner gives bank to reply 45 days to give an answer upon application or else we end up paying 10%.

Was curious if this is a common thing?

It feels unusual as we thought that it would take at least several months to get answer from the bank, so we are reaching out to community to understand how this goes

Ask Luxembourg Girlfriend cannot get home with new hours, advice?

Hi dear all,

My girlfriend works in the South since recently, HORECA, afteer her restaurant relocated. Her working hours are miserable, but she likes it. However since recently, her boss announced all employees would work until before 11 PM. The problem is, she can't get home past this time using public transport, while neither she or I have a car or a license. By car she lives half an hour from her work, by train it's minimum an hour and a half... But that late, it's impossible to get home.

Any advice? She just told me this today and I told her she HAS to initiate dialogue with her boss, of course. I'm fairly certain the employer is well within legality, but this is literally infeasible. She may be forced to change work.

Any advice? Would love to know how to approach this tactfully.

Activities Question for jims people?

Is here someone who used to go to the cycling classes before they changed the rules? Cycling is not considered to be a group class anymore but it belongs to the "Cube activities" so it is more expensive. People with the abonnement for the group classes can no more enjoy the indoor cycling.

Shopping/Services Where can I find keto-friendly bread/pastries?

In some countries, bakers would make pastries/bread from almond flour as keto-friendly substituted.

Been looking online for something like that in Luxembourg, but nothing… Any recommendations?

Ask Luxembourg Blood donation restrictions

Hello there! I have written several days ago regarding the discussion on blood donation in Parliament. A very kind person here translated for me the discussion between the Health Minister and a Member of Parliament on the issue of blood donation restrictions for gay men.

However, there is one more part where the Minister is speaking about the issue before MPs voted against a motion. Can someone translate it for me, please? The link of discussion is https://www.chd.lu/fr/seance/3024 . Minister Deprez's speech starts on 1:12:35 before the end of the video, if you look at the bar down below and click on "Motion de Mme Paulette Lenert relative..." it should take you there. Thank you in advance!

Ask Luxembourg Why is French the default language when selecting Luxembourg as the country for a website?

I went to the Kobo website and just out of curiosity, I changed the country to Luxembourg.
I noticed it was in French.
I understand the natives speak Luxembourgish as their mother tongue, and they learn German and French in school.
But why was French chosen?
I get that French and German are more common than Luxembourgish, but I would have thought if the natives had a choice, they'd choose German since Luxembourgish is basically a dialect of German and therefore they'd be more comfortable with German than French since it's so much closer to their native tongue.

Ask Luxembourg How possible is it to negotiate price on new build projects?

We are seriously considering a real estate investment in a house, one of these new housing developments where you buy on plan. And I’m curious to get some feedback from people who have experience buying these “on plan” projects. How open are these companies to negotiation? On purchase price? but also interior customisation. Etc.? Happy to get any feedback, tips, lived experience and warnings

But please no negative unsolicited opinions about the high price of Luxembourg real estate and other “luxembourg aversion” type narratives

Hello, Recently trying to make a business deal with someone who claims to have established business in LU. I checked the VAT number he provided, indeed , it is recently registered. Website, and social media accounts are created. Is there any LU public resource which can tell who that VAT number is registered on? Or any other ways to verify the identity? I only have name, email address and VAT number.

Anyone here is willing and capable to share their work experience at CSSF? I would welcome general comments and also those who had any experience with the banking supervisory teams (incl. onsite). Topics such as: 1. Compensation 2. Culture 3. Work life balance 4. Progression/growth Are all welcomed.

For context, I’m an expat with 8 years of experience in Lux.
