Travel / Tourism Safety, 3:30AM at P+R Buillon?

Hi People,

I am a student from Germany and I have a flight from Luxembourg airport around 10 on Saturday. Since the first train from my city to Luxembourg reaches around 8:30AM to the central station, I don't want to risk being too late to the airport (German trains being German trains).

So I had an option of taking Flixbus that would drop me at P+R Buillon around 3:30 AM. Hence, I was planning to just spend 1 or 2 hours at P+R Buillon and then take bus to the Airport in the early morning. Do you think it's a good idea from the aspect of safety? Or my other option is to reach Airport before 12AM and spend the night there. Would this option be better? For context, I am a Male of Non-European descent.

Thanks in advance :-)

No concerns , bouillon is well lighted at night. and populated by a lot of travellers from all EU. In any case, I would recommend to have a coffee in central train station and then take a tram to airport (or bus).

Best regards!

I second that idk what people are on about here but I traveled for 6months between Germany and lux every week with flixbus at similar times never had a problem never felt unsafe and never saw anything weird happen there. Gare is a different story but sadly at those hours there aren’t many places open beside there but even then usually at those hours most of the dealers aren’t even there yet, no good train connections from France.

Sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the info :-)

It's quite OK and I've done this myself - so here are the tricks:

  1. Take the first bus anywhere downtown at 3:30
  2. Stay on the bus until the end, then go back
  3. Take a tram at 4+ AM (when it starts operating) to the airport
  4. You can wait at the airport until your flight or sleep in the chairs, or go back into the city later to come before your flight

Doable!

Safe, there are plenty of buses passing by this stop at night, so you won’t be alone. Also the police is occasionally there to bill the smarts entering the bus parking by car

Thanks that's re-assuring :-)

For what it’s worth, I went to pick up my girlfriend at Bouillon around 3 a.m., and there were quite a few people there — some sleeping on their suitcases or the benches at the bus stop. So yeah, you won’t be alone. It won’t be comfortable... but at least you’ll have company.

Sounds good, thanks :-)

Very safe. I've taken buses to Switzerland and Germany during graveyard hours. It's not Gare. 😅

It's super secure, don't worry!

Been there several times. It’s pretty chill, well lit and there’s usually quite a few people around or busses waiting there, even at that hour. I’ve caught busses at that time before.

Cool, thanks for the info :-)

To be honest, if you could afford, I would see the option of spending the night as the most reasonable one.

u/mightygodloki Jun 11 '25

I also thought so, but I will have to start my journey around 17:00 on Friday and I will land in my destination city around 12:00 on Saturday. So that will be me being more than 18 hours on the way, which I would be too heavy. But this option is also not that bad from the point of safety:-) Thanks for your comment:-)

Chillest place to be ar 3:30 am in any city in my opinion. I have arrived at night by bus many times and even slept there like a hobo without any occurences

Haha thanks :-)

You can get a cheap hotel at the airport. Look there.

Walk from Bouillon to the Central Station, where at 4:09am, you can take bus 29 straight to the airport.

You'll be more comfortable at the Findel terminal than outside at dawn.

I wonder how wise it is to advise someone to walk alone at such hours in the Rue de Strasbourg / Gare area… I’ve never been there at those kinds of hours, but I’m not sure I’d want to experience it.

Bouillon -> Gare at 3am, done it several times.

Rue de Hollerich is quiet. That's the only street you need to be walking on to get to Gare.

The loitering and shooting up takes place on parallel streets farther up north (Epernay and Junck).

I wonder how wise it is to advise someone to walk alone at such hours in the Rue de Strasbourg

The bad part of rue de Strasbourg (East of rue du Commerce) is even more up north than rue Junck. You'd never be walking that given portion going from point A to point B.

Downvotes on the initial comment have Tell me you don't know the area without actually telling me you don't know the area vibes. ;-)

Man all of these people are just scared of being outside

I guess the main advantage would be moving vs standing still... but yeah, Bouillon should be fine.

You can take a Uber to the airport from there, 30 bucks or something (more like 40 night time). At 4:30 a café will be open there.

Edit because people don't like my suggestion: This isn't financial advice and I'm not making any claim about the safety level of P+B Bouillon.

At 3:00 in the morning the ride to the airport will cost you more than 30 €

2

u/r-nck-51 Jun 11 '25

You're absolutely right, it will be more like 40 euros.

Edit: why did I write like ChatGPT??

2

u/effzehforever Jun 11 '25

But that is still cheaper than any Hostel or Hotel, and the safest way. Uber or Webtaxi sounds like the best choice. Staying at P&R Boullion is not smart, there are „dunkle Gestalten“ sleeping in this area.

u/r-nck-51 Jun 11 '25

My comment wasn't even for safety reason, I wouldn't stay hours NOT at the airport if I will end up at the airport anyway. Travelling takes time, if people want to relax more and can afford it, there's the option.

Even a completely safe P+B lot is not the wholesome layover place to wait in.

As opposed to standing in front of a probably closed airport terminal

1

u/r-nck-51 Jun 11 '25

It opens at 4AM luckily.

At 3:30 AM there is a risk you will get robbed, especially if you are there with your luggage. Try to get to the airport by another way
