Wild to include Pat Tillman. gunned down by friendly fire and covered up by the military?

Why is it wild? Kind of a dumb take. He’s inspiring not because of how he died, but how he lived.

What a wild take. Might as well include pictures from Iraq in that case

A life squandered by a misguided military mission? Relax theoden, the afghans didn’t light the beacon.

So Much Death. What Can Men Do Against Such Reckless Hate?

Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them.

I’m saying he’s included because he’s a symbol of patriotism. Give up a fat NFL paycheck, give up playing in a league he’s been dreaming of and training for since he was a kid, to join the army after 9/11.

My understanding was he joined because his brother was being deployed. Famously wouldn't give his opinion on politics/terrorism/or if he thought the Bush wars were a good idea.

Is that incorrect?

All to get killed by your own men, and have your death covered up.

And a symbol of where that patriotism gets you.

The jokes. The jingoistic frail superpower subreddit never took off. Probably the title.

Dont find anything inspiring about giving up your dreams to be killed in a far off shithole by your own military.

Its sad af, and in the end his sacrifice meant nothing.

It inspired a nation.

Lol no it didn't, it just showed how the military will use a good man's death.

1

u/Helmsshallows 17d ago

No, it showed what true patriotism looks like.

True patriotism is going overseas to fight in a war for oil predicated on a lie about weapons of mass destruction to just die and have your death covered up by the military?

I love america, but this ain't it, bro. This is the dark side of America.

Kinda weird to celebrate the country that sought to cover up his death. It’s why it’s also funny they included MLK, who received letters from the government telling him to kill himself

We are celebrating the country, not the government.

Not weird at all to celebrate the USA and the fine people that made this country great.
