I’m Canadian, and I love both America and Canada.

I do hate our laws though. Can’t even legally defend yourself in Canada. That’s not a joke.

But seriously, would never want to live anywhere other than these two countries.

What is this other dude on about 😂? I don’t think they’re a real American. I am American, and I love your perspective. Respect to the historic friendship between our two countries. I hope we can work together to get back to a strong alliance and solve the problems of these uncertain times.

Absolutely.

I think a unified north is a beautiful vision. Hell, simple politics can’t undo over two centuries of unbroken friendship.

I think the friendly rivalry our nations have is fun, but it should never be taken seriously. Like siblings.

Who told you you can't defend yourself in Canada? That's completely untrue.

You can't shoot somebody for turning around in your driveway. But of course you can defend yourself.

The Canadian police were telling people to leave their keys near their front door so that when the inevitable home invasion happened, the thieves could more easily take your car.

That doesn’t sound like a nation that has embraced the natural right to self defense. Rather, it sounds like one that empowers criminals and handcuffs (figuratively and literally) the same hard working people who keep the system afloat.

That was an off-the-cuff comment by one officer, not Canadian law or policy.  The Toronto Police Service later clarified that residents should never do this.

It's good to read past the headlines.

We do not have a law that permits killing someone in self defence.

If you want to prove me wrong, show me.

Not many states do either. In Canada the law says the force must be reasonable and proportional. It's up to a jury to decide whether that is true or not. Juries make these decision in Canada.

I'm sorry, but shooting people is usually proportional because you just can't know their intentions or what they're packing

Well we have jury trials in Canada (and in the United States) so its usually up to the jury to decide that.

But Canadian juries often agree with killing in self defense.
