Hello everyone I’m an avid trophy hunter and a big fan of the Mafia games. I see in the community a lot of people are having trouble with the Mafia III platinum. Im here to share my knowledge and wisdom to help anyone I possibly can - even if it’s just one person I’ll be glad to have helped someone. I know what it feels like to not be able to get a game you love 100%. Im hoping I can change that for anyone struggling with Mafia III. I’m sure the guide I’m sharing with you would work on XBOX & PC as well but since I did not complete the 100% on either of those platforms I won’t say for sure. Anyway as I’m sure most of you are aware Mafia III is very buggy & certain trophies, specifically trophies with a “counter”, are bugged. The trophies I’m speaking of are as follows.
“Baby You’re a Rich Man” - Earned $500,000
“The New Boss” - Flipped 16 Racket Bosses
“Live Another Day” - Recruit 15 Racket Informants
“No Loose Ends” - Killed all of the Racket Bosses
“Can’t Trust a Rat” - Killed all of the Racket Informants
“Wrecker” - Executed 10 vehicle takedowns
“Combat Specialists” - Killed 300 enemies via takedowns
“Shh, shh” - Performed 100 stealth takedowns on enemies
“Closed Casket” - Performed 50 brutal takedowns
“Flambé” - Made 10 enemies kill themselves with their own molotvs
Pre Setup
Ok so to understand why this game bugs out all you need to know is with the 1.12 patch that was implemented the game becomes a little unstable. All counter esque trophies are bugged so anytime the game closes (if you exit to main menu or close the application) or crashes, the counter for trophies resets. For example: if you have 299 takedown kills out of 300 for the trophy “Combat Specialist” and you exit to main menu, close the application, or the game crashes - your counter resets to 0. That simple. Most guides will tell you to downgrade your game to a more stable version (1.09). You do not need to downgrade your game for this to work. I got my platinum entirely on 1.12. Your goal is to avoid closing your game and do your best to avoid game crashes. What I did to make this work is I always completed my playthrough offline for starters. This is very important. Taking yourself off of the 2K servers and playing completely offline helps with a lot of cloud save / lag issues that causes your game to suddenly crash. I tested this theory as well by coming back online and as I did I would crash about a half hour later. Going offline is crucial. Next what I did was minimized my game settings as much as I could. Turn off subtitles, game hints, the mirror & speedometer visiual setting, etc. Anything you don’t need turn as low as possible or off altogether. This puts less stress on the game which in turn helps the game not crash. Also I recommend always using your slow motion ability when available I.e. when shooting enemies and when taking corners fast with a vehicle. Speaking of vehicles - DO NOT drive recklessly. Drive slower than normal and avoid crashing into things. Vehicle crashes can cause the game to crash…LITERALLY. Another key tip - sometimes you will encounter a camera glitch once you are done taking over a racket. It will show a panned out camera (you won’t see Lincoln in third person) - just your mini map and wherever the camera is focused. If you encounter this glitch don’t waste any time. Hit pause and load checkpoint. I do this one purely out of superstition but, I like to take my time when interacting with NPC’s. Don’t just run up to them and press square or circle when prompted. Give the game a minute to register and let the NPC finish their dialogue. Speaking of dialogue I skipped every cutscene when I went for the flip / kill playthrough and it didn’t affect me none - in fact I think it helped me more. Besides those tips the obvious is DO NOT exit to main menu for any reason and DO NOT close your application - you can put your PlayStation in rest mode if you need a break. I’ve tested it and it the trophy progress still counts as long as the game wasn’t closed. When you turn your system back on you may receive a message telling you the licenses cannot be verified. Don’t panic and DO NOT close the game - just go back online so you can sign in to PSN. The game should allow you to load back in. As soon as you’re loaded back in make sure you disconnect from the internet again. It will not close the game on its own just because it can’t verify the license. This is all you need to know for the setup. I did this and completed my flip / kill runs back to back without any crashes happening.
Step 1.
I recommend playing the game for fun the first time around enjoying the story and completing all the side missions. By doing this you’ll unlock all story / side mission related trophies. While completing this playthrough I recommend going for all of the kill counter trophies. The more you get out of the way on this playthrough is the less you have to worry about when doing the flip / kill trophies. For those playthroughs you’ll want to focus on getting them done as fast as possible. I also recommend going for the “Baby You’re a Rich Man” trophy as well. You’ll want to clear out every racket location to get the most money possible. This means interrogating all racket informants and visiting all racket POI’s. By doing this you should get $500,000. Now, you can absolutely go for a flip or kill run on this playthrough to save yourself from doing an additional playthrough, it’s entirely up to you. I only split mine up just to be safe. Just remember if you’re going for a flip playthrough, always wiretap the junction box in the area where the racket boss is located. You DO NOT need to wiretap the entire district. You can wiretap at any point before you confront them. If you’re going for your kill run, you do not need to wiretap the area. I have counted a total of 20 informants but you only need 15 in order to unlock the trophies related to flipping / killing them. That means you have a margin of error of 5 mistakes.
Regarding bosses, you do not have any margin of error, you either need to flip or kill them all. There are 18 in total but two of them can't be flipped (Merle Jackson - Prostitution and Chester Moreau - Southern Union). You have to flip or kill the 16 others racket bosses. Any mistakes and you’ll have to start all over. A good tip to know is when going for the flip run, you don’t even need to bother going after “Chester Moreau”. He’s one of the racket bosses in Frisco Fields - Southern Union Racket. You can skip him entirely on the flip run since he doesn’t count toward the 16 racket bosses needed to be flipped. When going for flip / kill runs make sure you’re splitting the districts evenly among Vito, Cassandra, & Burke - In that order too. You only have to do the lieutenant missions for “Enzo Conti”, “Tony Derazio”, & “Frank Pagani” since those will unlock the last three districts allowing you to complete the last of the rackets needed in Southdowns, French Ward, & Frisco Fields.
Step 2.
Now that all the story, side mission, counter trophies are out of the way it’s time to focus on the remaining trophies related to racket informants / racket bosses. If during “Step 1” you completed a flip or kill run then you only have to worry about one last playthrough. Depending on which run you chose - either flip or kill you’ll now want to focus on the other run. Remember the important information listed in “Pre Setup” & “Step 1” To avoid messing up.
Step 3.
If you were lucky enough to complete your flip / kill playthroughs without exiting the game or the game crashing then congratulations!!! You made it!!! Now all that should be left is a few miscellaneous trophies. I finished the game with my last trophy “Next Time Swim Faster” where I got eaten by an alligator.
Sorry for the long post - I wanted to be as thorough as possible. If anyone is going for the Mafia III platinum and has any questions or is confused feel free to comment or message me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. GOOD LUCK & HAPPY HUNTING!!!
