Banning fake products on ManyBaggers

Hi all

Firstly, thank you to all of you who make this community what it is, a great place to find reviews of quality products from around the world, and speak freely about our thoughts on them.

Fakes of the kind found on AliExpress and Temu have always been a difficult topic here. Originally, these posts started off as genuinely helpful comparison posts against the real thing, but increasingly have been treated as ways to share information about these knock off products. Our one rule was that you shouldn't share or ask for links or ways to find these products, but this rule is being repeatedly broken with the increasing volume of discussions around fakes.

In addition, we recently had abusive posts from a particularly difficult user that treated our allowance of legit brands like C-Tactical and the presences of the fakes as indicative of our disregard for bag manufacturers, so basically tarring them with the same brush unfairly. I am really not keen to see that comparison again.

It is now growing beyond our ability to moderate, and so we are instituting a ban on discussion of fakes.

I know this won't be popular with everyone, but this was becoming a real point of division in our community and harms our ability to host discussions and potentially work with brands on Q&As etc.

Please report these fakes and be patient as we remove them. Thank you.

Example of fakes

-Aer/Bellroy copies on AliExpress or Temu

Example of not a fake

-Ctactical

-"inspired" designs like a recent wallet incident. This will require a bit more thought and discussion.

Before commenting, please read this very clear explanation. I tried to bring across the motivations, but this is better in terms of practical guidance.

What are some of the lesser known bag makers you’ve been scoping out?

Here are the current two I’ve been scoping out:

William Ellery™ (https://williamellery.co) — Their bags sell as fast as they drop and are the perfect example of function over form. They rely on tried and true designs that can be applied to clever modern day use.

KASPERI (https://kasperi.com/) — My dream pack out bag. From the outside looking in they use durable leather and hardware. Comes in a few different orientations with accessories for outdoors and adventuring.

Have any of you tried these bags? What do you think?

What are other interesting bag brands you’ve been scoping out that may not be so commonly talked about on this Subreddit?

How do you use the Evergoods Cap1 and Cap2

I have both and am trying to figure out how best to use them for my EDC? What do you store in them? How do you use them? Do you have one of each or a different mix?

Any ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for an upgrade to a trusty old Gap bag

I’ve had this Gap bag for about 15 years. It’s been repaired a few times and the zipper handle is broken. Dimensions: (14.5” x 11.5” x 4”)

I use it when doing errands, or to the movies (to carry snacks and water).

I usually have a 32 oz hydro flask, sometimes a light sweater, gum/chap stick in a small pocket when doing errands.

Looking for a similar feeling bag. Light, spacious, conforms to my body when not full.

I’ve looked at the following bags:

  • Tom Bihn Maker’s Bag - don’t think I want ballistic material with this, but not sure what would most match what my current bag is.

-Bellroy Cinch Messenger 12L - the one that I’m leaning to the most. Seems like a good upgrade to my current bag, but not sure about the clips.

Suggestions? Options I should consider? Personal experience? Any insight helps. Thanks in advance.

Recommendations for gym sling bag

Upvotes

Looking for a small sling bag that can hold gym clothes, water bottle, and EDC items for when I go to the gym after work.

I want it to have a sling and easy side access so I can sling it to the front and grab keys, AirPods, edc. I’m thinking 10 L or smaller for size.

Something similar to the tomtoc navigator but less tech focused. https://www.tomtoc.com/products/explorer-a54-sling-bag-9l-for-14-inch-macbook-pro

Or the north face borealis but with a vertical pocket for easy access.

Small backpack for edc?

I'm looking for a backpack <10L just to hold a small amount of stuff daily. A hidden compartment would be nice as well but not necessary

Looking for ~10L covertible tote/backpack or sling/backpack

I've been (casually) looking for a convertible backpack of this size for years (including in this sub), so wondering if anyone here knows of one. All of the ones I can find are much larger than 10L, and include a laptop compartment.

Ideally, I'm looking for a 8-10L bag, and no bigger than 12L at the max. I also need the tote straps to be long enough to go over the shoulder (not just grab handles), and the backpack straps to be hidden in some way (at least not just loosely dangling when used in tote mode).

I've mostly seen tote convertibles, but a sling one would be great too - those just seem even harder to find.

Looking for a lightweight laptop recommendation

Upvotes

I’m currently using Alpaka Shift v2 for my laptop travel bag. While it provides ample space for my MBP 16 and essential. I find it very heavy for travel use. With no laptop, it has weight already.

Basically looking for a lightweight alternative that I can use as a travel bag and for EDC.

alternatives to Scrubba Air Sleeve?

Upvotes

I'm looking for a padded sleeve or boxy "bag" that will move between a larger 30L carry-on pack (sscy tack) and a smaller packable daypack (rick steves or similar). this inner bag will hold my laptop, notebooks, and a pencil case.

something like the Air Sleeve seems perfect because neither of my bags have a frame sheet or any padding for the back. whichever bag I take when I go out, I expect to have this inner sleeve on me, so being able to adjust the inflation to provide the right amount of protection/volume seems great.

Sadly, the Scrubba Air Sleeve appears unavailable to purchase. any suggestions for something that would serve a similar purpose, if not being a direct replacement? specifically, is there a super light weight sleeve or ultralight padded "briefcase" that would could live inside an outer bag but provide structure from the inside?

Looking for a backpack for my fiance

Hi everyone. I'm looking to get my fiance a everyday backpack (EDC) for her birthday as her current one is bad. Here are a few things that I'm looking for (I'll try my best to be as detailed as possible):

  • Budget: < $120 or so. (Flexible if quality is worth it)
  • Adjustable straps
  • Light to carry
  • I think around 26L size? (open to suggestions)
  • Color: Either Black or dark blue (navy)
  • Will be used daily for work but would like it to be usable for travel as well for a carry-on
  • Minimalist design but still professional looking or "put together"
  • Will be storing laptop (mac), notebook, water bottle, book, some minor other misc items (small)

Backpacks I was considering but wanted to run it by this group: * Mueslii minimal Prime weekend -- This was 20L so wasn't sure if it'll be too small? * Samsonite Better than basic * Alpaka Bravo -- I did look at Alpaka Metro but it looked comically small.

I read about Tumi which is extremely expensive. Not sure how folks feel about that. Thank you.

What's on your wishlist right now?

Hey ManyBaggers!

There are a few bags, sling and other gear that I would like to add to my collection eventually but not right now. They are living rent free in my head! It got me wondering, do you keep track of the stuff you like or like to purchase?

Do you all have wishlists? Spreadsheets? Written lists? Add everything to your favs on a website? Or just let them float around in your head like I do.

What’s sitting at the very top of your wishlist right now? For me it's the GR1 Heritage 21L.

Any Dupes of Old J. Peterman Briefcases Out There?

Ye of many bags,

Years ago, when I was first in grad school, I had a sweet J. Peterman briefcase. Sadly, I parted ways with the bag, and I'm not sure what lucky son of a gun ended up with it. I hope it's been put to good use on lots of adventures.

I'm in the market for another leather briefcase now, and I find it odd that no one seems to make something like this.

For one, the color. I see so many cognacs (too much orange in the mix for me), chestnuts, and of course blacks, but I don't see much of anything available in a rich saddle tan.

And then the unique quality of the design. The bag pattern featured two distinct sections that folded onto each other and collapsed into the perfect size for carrying. This isn't my photo—it's from an active eBay listing.

Does anyone know of a company/craftsman making a bag like this? I know I could score this one from the fleabay, but I'm a little dubious of the condition and would enjoy supporting a small business owner producing excellent work.

Need advice on travel backpack w/ dslr

Hi everyone, Im looking for a new travel pack that can hold my dslr + misc gear, and also travel and edc stuff like clothes and whatnot. My setup right now is the tomtoc navigator 28L and a shoulder bag that i put my dslr + 70-300mm lens in, and the entire shoulder bag goes in the tomtoc. It takes up quite a bit of space in there, about 2/3 of it, and i dont have much space for other stuff.

Right now im considering the pgytech onemo 2 25L, which also comes with a shoulder bag, but for some reason looks like it can fit way more than my setup. The main concern I have is that it wont fit my camera, which is about 22cm long.

Im also looking at the brevite jumper, but I likely wont be able to fit a second bag inside this one, so i'll have to take the entire bag when i go out to shoot. kinda annoying since ill be using the bag to hold other stuff too

If yall have any other suggestions, feel free to leave them here ;) TIA

Size Upgrade from Aer Day Pack

Used an Aer DP2 for 4 years in college and I loved how it looked and felt but needing more space now. I currently carry in the DP2:

  • 14” MacBook
  • 11” iPad
  • 1 folder for loose papers
  • various charger bricks, cables, a battery pack
  • 32oz Nalgene

What I would like to carry in addition:

  • change of clothes (gym clothes or shirt and slacks rolled up)

  • over ear headphones in their case (Sony xm3)

  • lunch (one small Tupperware)

Wants:

  • dedicated laptop sleeve

  • easy access to iPad (e.g. not an elastic sleeve in the back of a clamshell that would be hard to get to when packed out)

  • external bottle pocket

  • admin pocket for chargers/cables, doesn’t have to span the entire bag like the day pack

  • minimal look (similar to aer and the bags I mention below)

What I’ve looked at why I haven’t purchased

  • toshi rework 20L - liked it because of the dual laptop sleeve, would’ve liked better materials

  • aer cpp24 - feel that it’s a bit too big for my case, tell me if I’m wrong

  • eg chz22 - hard to access where I would have to put ipad when packed out

  • sympl commuter 20l - no quick access to iPad, unclear whether I can put it on other side of laptop divider or not

  • alpaka metro pro - no external water bottle pocket

I think a clamshell type would work best in my case but open to other suggestions.

Thank you in advance!

Possibly looking for something that doesn't exist?

So I'm in the market for a bag that can go in a bigger bag to carry around as a daypack, probably 8-16l ish, depending on what it is. I love my Atom sling but it's on its last legs and is sometimes just slightly too small. My Kavu rope swing is too shallow and heavy. I have an Osprey Daylite Plus but I don't vibe with it.

Here are my criteria: - Budget is about £150 but happy to go up for the right bag. Based in UK so no Tom Bihn or Eddie Bauer. - Lightweight, but not necessarily ultralight. Able to roll up or go flat(ish) inside a Daylite 45 duffel. - Able to carry a standard water bottle, ideally on an outside pocket but not necessary. - If it has pockets, I like pockets with actual depth, if that makes sense? Like attached pouches rather than an extra zip that just pushes into the main compartment. No extra padding for laptop storage etc. - Pockets or pouches on the straps for phone/wallet access are a huge plus, or points for attaching accessory holders. - Not top opening. As much of a clamshell or flap opening as possible, but at least more than half zip. - Backpack or sling. Easy to get to. I like a backpacky sling rather than a crossbody style sling like the Bellroy Venture. - Ideally no taller than 45cm, I'm little. - Less important, but ideally not black, navy or beige. I don't like technical/military or like ultra sleek type aesthetics.

Some bags I've been considering: Cotopaxi Tasra - the old version would be perfect, but I'm worried the new version would be too awkward to get into with the little half zip. Osprey Transporter sling/Cotopaxi Chasqui - possibly too much in the way of organisation to be practical. Might get uncomfy on one shoulder given the size. Jansport Half Pint - very cute but maybe not that useful? Kinda bulky maybe. Deuter Compact 12+3 or other versions - maybe overkill? I like the hip belt pockets but I probably wouldn't need them. Cotopaxi Elqui 18/MR Gallagator 10/15 - I feel like I will hate the openings on these but the strap pockets look so good.

Anyone wanna weigh in? Anything I've missed off here? I will gratefully appreciate any experiences or tips!

So, the wife gives me grief about all my bags (ill have to follow another post for that), but when I see a deal too good to pass up, well... she can be mad 😅

Had some free time last night at the thrift store, and ran across this bag. Truth be told, I didn't know the brand, and was about to put it back when I found the little blue carabiner with the logo. Did some googling.. and then I couldn't pay fast enough.

Ill be honest and say white isn't really my color, but I'm willing to give it a try. Never had a bag like this one, so I am curious how it will work out. It certainly is unique!

Help me find bag that I'm not sure exists.

Hi all, I feel like I've reached the end of the internet looking for a bag that meets my requirements and have not found one I like.

I want a bag, preferably a backpack but a messenger style might be ok, that has a molded, waterproof bottom that isn't fabric that will stay upright on its own. Like 9x13in interior open area in bottom of bag, longer might be fine too. The bag goes from the floor of my car, a 10 min walk, and then the floor of my work area by my feet under a desk. No lockers or hooks or room to have it anywhere else. I'm in the midwest, so winter will deal with salt/sand/water and fabric bottom is absolutely not acceptable. I've ruined too many bags and items in my bags over the years and am over it.

I keep my 60oz water bottle and lunch bag in the bag by my feet so I can get to them easily throughout the day, so an easy open top would be nice, I don't like roll tops. Mainly one large interior compartment, don't need a lot of pockets, just enough for keys/phone/pens/personal hygiene items. Some room for change of clothes would be nice for nights I'm on call. Don't need a laptop compartment.

I've looked at modifying tool bags, but they have sooo many pockets i would basically have to deconstruct them to make them work. My current bag is a kriega waterproof motorcycle bag and is roomy but keeps falling over into my legs and is driving me nuts, it wasn't an issue when I had a place to hang it on a wall at my last job.

Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you!

Alpaka bravo sling max v2 dimensions

Does anyone know the interval length and depth of this sling/messenger bag? I’m trying to work out if I could fit a tripod inside it that when folded is 35cm long and has a diameter of around 10cm. The bag’s specs says it’s 39x14cm so on paper, it should fit, but it looks like it may have curved corners that means it could be a squeeze.

aer city pack 2 and cap 2L

interested in getting a city pack 2, was wondering if anyone on here with both can verify if the main compartment can fit a cap 2L? if so, what if with a laptop + tablet + cap 2L ? might want to squeeze in a folder on top of all else mentioned if possible. would be very helpful to know how tight it is, thanks!
