New here? 👆👆PLEASE READ THIS STICKY👆👆 Welcome to the sub! Posts about pot and it's related subjects should be shared with our good friends at r/trees, not so much here; we're all about *actual trees* (that's the joke) 😊🌳 'Thank you! Come Again!'

Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)

Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!

Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃

CONFUSED ABOUT THE SUB NAME?

Please check out these past posts!

UPDATE:

Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.

Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗

Is this Coast Live Oak cooked?

County planted it about a month ago during a heat wave. They added the water bag about a week after planting but by then it was pretty crusty. The bag has been filled nearly every day since then. The branches and leaves all look and feel pretty dead and dry but the tissue is still green.

Is there any hope for this tree?

Why does my redbud look so sad? zone 7b

For the last couple of years, the leaves on my eastern redbud appear wilted, even under relatively favorable conditions (regular rainfall, mild temperatures). I've been watering it extra lately, but compared to other redbuds in my area, it still looks a little sad. Would be grateful for any diagnostics or advice! Thank you!

Help! Is this a poison oak volunteer?

Originally thought it was a native oak or ash tree. Now that it is has grown more I'm not quite sure. One is slightly more beat up due to what I'm guessing is deer or raccoons as I live on a greenbelt but they seem happy

Not sure if this is something I should be maintaining or working to remove/relocate

Help! What is this stuff coming out of the trunk?

I rent an old home in the Bronx (New York, NY) and we have a tree growing between/through our fence that I believe is an American Elm.

Recently, I noticed…something..either growing on its trunk or coming out from within it and I have no clue what it is.

Should I be worried?

(The tree also appears to have been cut previously before its current growth and the substance in question is on its original trunk if that’s relevant)

Help! Are a lot of pill bugs at the base of a younger tree, and crawling in the ground spaces between the structural roots a sign of something bad?

I had a root collar excavation with air spade for a young 12 foot redbud in May and it required some clipping of larger girdling roots that left it unsteady. It was staked and I was told to keep water pretty good this summer, but now I see tons of pill bugs in the soil going under the visible structural roots and all around the base. Is this a bad sign?

Red Oak losing leaves already

I am in the Houston area. Have 2 mature red oaks and 2 young ones. One of the young ones is already dropping brown leaves like it's November. The others are all still green. Should I be worried? The trunk looks healthy and they get the same water.

So… is it dead?

Bronx, NY. Japanese snowbell, about six years old. We had quite the summer with torrential storms for several days in a row followed by searing heat. I nicked the bark and it was brown underneath.

Our foliage is not changing yet. My tree is the only one that turned brown.

Is it ok to cut off these lower branches?

I planted this pin oak 3 years ago and this lower-mid section has dead or bare branches that make the tree look a little funny. Is it ok to trim off the bare portion and the healthy branches beneath it? Also bump the lower branches with my mower frequently so limbing up would help there too.

It keeps growing on land despite the fact that they cut it multiple times. Mom thinks theres a water layer underneath because due to the lack of rain it and its size it must have found sources of water. I have no idea what its name is.

Thanks for helping! FYI its in Tunisia (north africa) in case it helps. Thanks!

Just appreciating a beautiful, healthy, giant bur oak. No crown dieback, acorns galore, and sadly increasingly difficult to find in Minnesota due to multiple factors leading to Bur Oak decline.

I’m trying my hand at growing some northern catalpa from seed. They are all about 6 months old currently. I’ve gone from cell trays , to 1 gallons, to 3gal/5 gals currently. Looking back I didn’t address the flare when they were repotted into the pots they are currently in. Now i’m looking at them develop ,and i’m a little worried i’m girdling some of them ! I tried finding resources on how the root flare develops but I can’t find much. Can a tree wizard muster his beautiful words into the comment section please 🙏

Yes I know they’re packed in tight, they’ll be moved soon lol
