Help! Meet my redbuds. They confuse me.

Post image

I planted these two in the very same day, and somehow the one on the left has been struggling for the past couple of years. It maybe gets like one extra hour of sunlight than the one on the right, but all other conditions are the same. I am in Zone 7 of the US, NE Tennessee. Any insights as to what's going on and how/ if I can fix it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Help! Pine needle colors

Planted a few new pines this spring and frankly don’t remember if the last season’s pine transplants did the same thing. Part of it is new growth, but want to check I’m not missing anything else…. Overwatering? Underwatering? Needle drop?

Also, image 2- random branch color has been like that since spring. Planted that one last year.

It's that time of year these beauties have started to drop fruit. With the popularity increasing(at least here in KY) I plan on foraging and stratifying as many seeds as possible. As an avid gardener, with a nice germination setup, I plan on growing as many as possible and over the next couple of years and then transplanting them in public spaces.

Trees at the End of the World

Last week, as I was imaging the Milky Way (post here), I captured some distant trees looking out at a little cove under some star trails. The constellation in the upper center is Cassiopeia, below that in the lower right-center is Perseus.

How to fix a slight lean on young maple

That’s pretty much the question. I planted this guy about 4 months ago and would really prefer to not have to dig it up (nor am I confident that would fix it). It’s located near a fence I could theoretically tie it to and I have tree stakes I could use. Is there a recommended method or is this something that will sort itself out over time?

Central Indiana. I'm hoping they're just a sumac or walnut variety, but I can't find any where the leaves and bark look like what I'm seeing here.

Trying to get ahead of small tree of heaven shoots on my own property when I realize it's probably a war I can't win as long as those guys are standing...

Help! Can I save my JM?

Thumbnail

I noticed a tiny bit of bark damage that quickly turned into several spots and now I’m seeing what I think is frass. What can I do? Or is it a goner?

I’m in north Texas, usda 9b. Bloodgood JM. Replanted from container, Been in this pot since we brought it home ~5 years ago. I use a hose to water when the soil is dry to the touch.

I had a failed air layer from spring, so I covered it with cutting paste to prevent disease.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi, all-- I am brand new to taking care of trees. We have these two bald Cypress that were planted last fall. We got a lot of rain this summer (DC suburbs), but not much in August. Can these two be saved? What should we do?

Damaged Manchurian Cherry

Hello everyone,

It seems the person who recently weeded around the trees next to our building has shown very little care and attention in their work. Several trees now have many of their roots exposed, and the Manchurian cherry ('Amber Beauty' variety) in the photos has this ugly wound where both the bark and root have been damaged.

This tree was planted about 3 years ago. Location: Northern Europe.

What can we do to help this Amber Beauty heal? I imagine a wound sealant like Lac Balsam would do more harm than good? And how likely is it that this kind of injury will affect the tree's growth in the future?

Also what would you suggest should be done about covering exposed roots in general? Would a thin layer of new soil (with mulch on top) be okay to replace some of what was lost when digging up huge chunks of ground, or is it better to use mulch only?

Help! Is my winterberry holly okay? Nova Scotia

Thumbnail

I got this Berry Poppins winterberry for my female shrub/tree the same time and it went from looking totally healthy/nice and green with lots of little flowers and greenish berries to turning a more yellow-y colour kind of quickly

I know the seasons changing and super dry conditons extremely uncommon in my city could maybe be driving this but my Mrs Poppins isn't yellowing but definitely much smaller than the male (I've read the females grow a lot slower to save energy for berries in the winter) and the male one sees more shade but does see a good amount of sun and pollinating the hell out of everything close to it to where I have a bunch of evening primrose growing and plenty lof other volunteers

Did I break my winterberry?

Big, beautiful, and happy Osage orange I met last weekend at the Muleshoe National Wildlife refuge near Muleshoe, TX.

Unusual to be an uncultivated tree, out of range, on the high plains of TX that is thriving like this is.

First pic is a panorama so it makes it look smaller than it actually is but the roots have created a huge shelf. The roots look almost thicker than the tree.
