Sept 2025: Megathread for Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife Recommendations: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics.

This is a megathread for all tourism, nightlife, and moving related questions and folks looking for recommendations. Please read this before posting on the main thread!

Other Great Resources (Locals use these too and a lot of the recommendation lists were inspired/stolen from the posts here)

"Ok but I'm moving there, so I'll be one of you soon" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh.... You want somewhere with no crime, walkable, green space, good schools, on the beach, a beautiful sunset every morning and sunrise at night, rainbows at night, AND CHEAP. Don't we all? Redfin, apartments, hotpads, zillow, and compass are going to give you better data directly than any single response here. That being said..... just because we love you, myself and other mods with local input made a custom map detailing our insight into local neighborhoods. So please take a look, we'd be offended if you didn't. Worked hard on it. But please provide interests, budget, hobbies, desire for walkability, where you work, and other info before asking about moving questions.

"I'm coming for a trip" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! These sites do a pretty solid job of places to go and things to do here: Miami New TimesInfatuation Miami.TimeOut MiamiMiami and Beaches. We're not vacation planners, so don't just ask "what should I do for 4 days? I'm coming soon" but provide some of your schedule, budget, interests and hobbies, and stuff like that. We also made a tourism map! Check it out!

"I just wanna party" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh...... wanna party on the beach with DJ Khaled, Messi, and Gianni Versace and then go to a club with 14 male friends afterwards but don't want to pay a cover? Don't we all? Look up E11even, Liv, Space, Don't Sit on the Furniture, Perro Negro, Mynt schedules and prices beforehand. They're the most famous and exciting clubs, so look on their sites for booking ahead and DJ schedules.

"Is it going to rain? or will the weather affect my vacation" -you

  • It rains a lot here. Tropical weather yo. Especially during the summer. Typically, it wraps up in ~20 minutes and you can resume your plans. That being said, no one here knows more than weather sites or the app on your phone. If you're curious about hurricanes, checkout https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ for official tropical storm and hurricane forecasts, but a lot of us locals love Mike's Weather Page https://spaghettimodels.com/ for more insights. Hurricane season peaks mid September. If you're worried about it affecting your plans, keep a tab on those sites.

"I'm cool and just want to see what other posts before have said on these topics and look around" -you

Mod News Monthly Miami Jobs Thread: Post Job Openings or Questions About Work In Miami

Welcome to the Monthly Miami Jobs thread, the place to post any openings you have, look for jobs, and ask questions about working in Miami. This is an experimental thread for now, so we're keeping a close eye on things to make sure things don't go sideways, and will cancel it if they do.

The Rules:

  1. No MLMs, scams, pyramid schemes, "make millions from home," etc. We reserve the right to determine if something is an MLM or not.
  2. No positions that require investments or other upfront costs to employees. If someone has to pay any amount of money to take the job, don't post it here.
  3. If you're posting a job, the name of the company, contact information (including official address), and a realistic salary range is required. Any job posts missing these will be immediately deleted.
  4. No gig work or freelance positions except for professional services, with a minimum contract price of $500 dollars. So web designers, CPAs, copywriters, etc. is ok; someone to come mow your lawn or clean your home for $20 is not.
  5. People Looking for Work: DO NOT PUBLICLY POST YOUR RESUMES OR CONTACT INFO. You don't want to dox yourself and open yourself up to potential harassment or identity theft. Instead, talk about your skills and experience and encourage people to send you official contact information you can send your resume to.
  6. u/icecoldkila: We know you're looking for professional freelance hoes, but please keep it out of this thread.
  7. As per our usual rules, nothing illegal, unethical, or liable to get anyone involved in trouble. Please report anything sketchy you see here to the mods.

Again, this is an experiment for now, and we'll be keeping a close eye on things, and will not hesitate to pull the plug in case of shenanigans. Good luck to everyone!

Politics Speaking Spanish can get you stopped by ice. Good luck Miami.

“We should not have to live in a country where the Government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish, and appears to work a low wage job,” Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote, joined by Justices Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson. “Rather than stand idly by while our constitutional freedoms are lost, I dissent.” https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/08/supreme-court-ice-raids-ruling-00550551

Meme / Shitpost “I wanna go to that Irish place!” Spoiler

My husband and I are going to Miami for a wedding food tasting in a few days. For context I was born in Miami and moved when I was 9. Husband has lived in Texas all his life.

Today he tells me, “I wanna go to that Irish place! The one by your Abuela’s house!”

I’m so confused. And then he said “The place that’s all green with those ribs I like and the cups with the Irish man’s face!”

IM DYINGG GUYS😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭

Discussion What kind of job are you doing for 4k + a month

Is it hard to find a job in Miami for 4k + with little experience? And if so, what are you guys doing. I have been applying for a lot in banking and administrative positions with no success so far.

Curious if there are other fields where I can apply where I can make more than minimum wage.

EDIT: Thank you so so much for the ideas! I wasn’t expecting this much.

For a little bit of context I’m a 26F with a finance and marketing degree, my only experience is in customer services and retail sales bc I spent most of my after HS years studying 😭 (ik dumb af)

Community Networking for jobs in Miami/ South FL

Upvotes

Hello my beautiful Miami ppl. About a year ago I took a chance and moved away to the west coast for a job in which has made me the most miserable person ever. It has also made me realized how much I took home (Miami) for granted. I’m making this post in effort to network with anyone that may know of an opportunity or a job hiring back home, especially in healthcare or medical device sales. I’m looking to move back after a year of being here which would be around December/ January time. I’m a bit desperate to move back and find something else I’m passionate or can at least enjoy working on and be back with my family. Thank you for reading my post. Edit: I’m also bilingual and speak spanish too

Discussion I did the math......

If I drive 5 days a week from the Miami Shores area to Kendall for work during non peak hours I'm saving 8 minutes each way at a cost of $2.25 to use the toll road highways. Over the course of a year that's just over 69 hours saved at about $1170.

When you boil that down, that means I'm paying the highways more than the minimum wage to save time at $16.95 an hour.

Discussion Miami vacation/English vs Spanish

I have now been to Miami 3 times for vacation coming from the Rocky Mountain West. One thing I’ve noticed is that a large majority of the Latin people are very rude when they automatically start speaking to you in Spanish and they then realize you don’t speak Spanish. They act like you’re out of line or something for not knowing Spanish. I went to a fast food place and the gal didn’t know English I asked her if anyone in there knew English so I can explain my order better and she looked at me crazy and said “No”. Same thing happened to me at the gym. I realize English is a second language there but it just baffles me that people aren’t more polite. And why is everyone so rude on the streets when you are walking nobody says excuse me and nobody will move out of the way of your path of travel.

Discussion Miami business owner to DOH: if your body is God’s temple, don’t drag me inside.

Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo says vaccine mandates are “slavery” and that your body is “a gift from God.” Great. But what about my business and my rights?

I’ve formally asked the Florida Department of Health and Broward licensing authorities if my business can adopt a “reciprocal personal choice policy” — only serving vaccinated customers. If the unvaccinated get to choose disease, why can’t I choose safety?

This isn’t my first rodeo. In 2022, I filed the “Bible Ban” stunt. The Governor’s office literally rewrote Florida’s book ban law because of me.

Now I’m back, and this time the target is “personal choice.” If Miami businesses can’t choose to protect staff and customers, what does that say about freedom in Florida?

Journalists: reach out. I’ve got filings, receipts, and I don’t bluff.

Discussion Only in Miami do people just start talking to you in Spanish like you grew up in Hialeah

Bro, only in Miami… people just assume you speak Spanish. I’ll be at Publix, or walking into Hard Rock Stadium, and out of nowhere someone’s hitting me with full speed Spanish.

Thing is — I don’t speak Spanish. At all. But I love it. No shade. It’s just hilarious and kind of wholesome that it’s the default setting here.

Miami Spanish people are the best. Nowhere else in the country do you just get adopted into the culture instantly like that.

Discussion Affordablish and nice rehearsal dinner options in Coral Gables, Doral?

Im getting overwhelmed by wedding planning and my brain can’t think anymore. Anyone have some nice (but affordableish) restaurant recs in the Coral Gables or Doral area for a rehearsal dinner? Group will be 30-37.

Open to anything but seafood or spicy food. We want people to dress up a bit but not too fancy. We don’t need to reserve the entire place, either. We know there’s lots of nice places but hoping to get suggestions from people who hosted one in the area or attended one. So open to suggestions and any tips to keep in mind!

Community Guitar Lessons (plus more characters to fulfill the title requirement).

I would like to learn to play the guitar so I bought an acoustic starter guitar (I think) and tried the youtube instructor route. It didn't work so well. My musical experience is limited to the recorder in the fourth grade decades ago so I'm starting from pretty much zero.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good teacher or school? I'd prefer something within 20 minutes driving distance of Downtown. Even better would be walking distance.

Discussion Tailor for leather jacket

I have an amazing leather jacket and it's my nicest piece of clothing- but it doesn't really fit me well. Since I almost never wear it here, (never cold enough) I never got around to getting it fitted. I'll be doing some traveling soon and suddenly realized it may not be so simple to find someone to alter leather garments.

I'm willing to travel nearly anywhere to get it altered by someone who knows what they're doing.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Chisme Have you or someone you know sold their house to a ‘we buy houses for cash’ company in Miami? What was the experience like?

I’ve been hearing a lot about these cash home buying companies that claim they can close in a few days, no inspections, no fees, etc.

Has anyone here actually gone through the process in Miami?

Did they lowball you? Was it smooth?

There seem to be so many companies offering cash for homes in South Florida, but I can’t tell which are legit and which are shady.

Thanks!

Edit: Someone told me about Sunshine State Buyers, they have good reviews and seem to give fair offers. https://www.sunshinestatebuyers.com

Community Having a tough time finding a gym please help

I tried out LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, YouFit, Crunch all the basic gyms and even though im a basic person when it comes to working out, they were GROSS! No cleaning stations, I felt just....nasty.

Id like a place with a pool but not necessary. Machjnes/free weights, maybe group classes every now and again, but most important is cleanliness and good showers.

My budget is up to $150 a month so Lifetime/Anatomy/Equinox are just out of range. Where can I go for a good mid-level price where im not soaking in other people's crap?

Im in the Westchester area, willing to drive to the right spot.

Community Anyone looking for a cat?

Thumbnail gallery
58 Upvotes

This is my lovely girl, Pixie. She's too aggressive towards my other cats now. They're all littermates + their mom. She eats, sleeps and toilets separately because she just doesn't get along with anyone else anymore. She's hissing at my kids when they eat, is very territorial over her tower and bowl and is refusing her litter box if someone else used it. She killed my pothos by using the plant for a toilet. I already have a 13 year old incontinent dog, I don't want to clean up after the both of them. She was born 02/04/2024. Spayed at 5.5 months. She's around 7-8 pounds. Has never been in heat and has never sprayed. Next rabies shot 07/2026.

She likes being about 3ft off the ground at all times. She never uses the 6ft tower we have but prefers to sleep on the entertainment system. She purrs with eye contact. Does the little predator chirps at light reflections on the wall. She's quiet at night. The first picture is a cat tower I keep at my desk, she's there the entire time I'm at work. She just wants to chill and chase ribbons and not much else. She will knock the container of treats down if I leave it on the edge of the table and will bite catnip bags. She prefers dry food, always has, so I mix extra gravy wet food with the dry stuff to keep her hydrated. She sits in the barstools and eats at the counter. (Blame my mom)

I have too much going on to do more than I have to correct and accommodate this behavior. Someone with less cats please take her. She needs more space and less competition. There's no rehoming fee or whatever they call it. I just want her in a better place and
