Tip Microsoft Teams call cost analyzer/tracker

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hey all!
I've recently been working on a cost tracker for Microsoft Teams. Its something that I've thought would be beneficial for a lot of people and I couldn't seem to find a tool that was easy enough to use and/or that larger companies would want to mess around with managing/setting up.

I've built TeamSpend to tackle that issue. As far as setup goes its as easy as signing in with an admin account of your Microsoft tenant and then TeamSpend can retrieve and collate all Microsoft Teams call data and display it in an easy to read format.

I'm a solo dev on this project so things are somewhat slower moving - but I wanted to post about this early to see if there was any interest in it as I have sunk years into a project before trying to perfect everything before showing anyone and it was a flop.

So while this is still very much in beta - its free to use right now, and there is a demo page so you can check it out without any sort of a sign-in/sign-up.

Please if you have the time to check it out and give some tips/feature requests that would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to DM me with any.

To give it a shot please check out https://www.team-spend.com

*again just to reiterate - very early on so you may encounter bugs. I would really appreciate it if you let me know if any issues you run into!

❔Question/Help Defender reports vulnerabilities on Teams Rooms

Upvotes

Dear Gurus,

Teams Rooms are onboarded to defender, and so, it complains about Visual C++ and some openssl things that re mostly drivers in the dirverstore (icls) and also openssl libs used by teams itself.

What's the best practice here? Do you update Visual C++ via Intune on them? Also clean up the obsolete drivers from the driver store?

Discussion How to search for users?

I am trying to build a way for our employees to connect with each other. We have today some internal contact list, that is not used because nobody ever updates it. So I want to propose instead to use list of AD users. But I cannot find any app or tool or anything that will let me either show users or search for users. If I search for "finance" for instance in teams, I would want to find people working in finance. But it only shows me 1 guy, except I know for a fact at least 10 people have "Finance" in their title. Any suggestions? Is it just completely broken or am I missing something?

❔Question/Help **HELP** External presenter can't join in a Town Hall meeting

We created a Town Hall meeting in Teams, and added an external presenter. I had the waiting room disabled. But the moderators from my organization joined before the external presenter, and I don't know why but he was blocked from joining. Then we did a test, and when the external presenter joined before the moderators of the organization, the external presenter join without any problem. Why did this happen? Has this happened to anyone? Is it a problem with the company's security policies?

📣 News & Announcements Microsoft Shifts & Call Queues

The Voice Applications team, in conjunction with the Shifts team, is pleased to announce the integration of our two products: Shifts and Call Queues!    With this integration, Teams admins can leverage Shifts Scheduling Groups in Teams to dynamically manage call routing to agents in call queues.   Once scheduling groups and shifts are established, call queues can be configured to reference a scheduling group. Call queues will then pull in the associated shift schedules, ensuring that queued calls are only routed to agents who are on shift.   This integration enables:

• Streamlined workforce management by aligning call routing with shift schedules
• Greater flexibility in configuring call queues based on timing and team

This feature is currently available to all Teams Phone customers in all public cloud regions via PowerShell and Teams Admin Center.

Discussion What do you genuinely like about Microsoft Teams?

I know Teams gets its fair share of criticism here (some of it deserved!), but I also suspect many folks—especially in medium to large organizations already on Microsoft 365—actually like it.

So I’m starting this thread to capture the positive side of the Teams experience.

✅ What features or workflows do you genuinely appreciate?

✅ How has Teams helped your org collaborate more effectively?

✅ What made Teams a better fit for your company from whatever you had before?

Let’s hear the good stuff—what makes Teams actually work for you?

❔Question/Help Is there any way to fully disable noise suppression?

Me and the other person in the call both have the noise suppression setting disabled and since the end of skype forced us onto teams we've always had some noise cancellation, but in the past week its gotten extremely bad

I want to be able to hear the other person typing, a fan in the background etc, today it was so extreme they played a harmonica and all i heard was the first note before teams identified it as unwanted noise and filtered it it to silence

It is not a headset or other software problem because in other voip programs such as discord we can both mutually hear everything fine. If we cant find a solution to this we'll have to find a new program for calls

Bug Audio settings not working when switching to W11

I upgraded my old W10 device for a new HP running W11. I have a bluetooth speaker I use 90% of the time for normal computer audio (YouTube, Spotify etc.). On my previous setup (W10), for some reason it appeared twice on the devices list to pair via bluetooth, although I had to pair just one and could switch between them. It was pretty the same just that sound quality fluctuated. Same device name but one of them said something like "headset". Now, on my W11 device it shows just as a single device and work fine for all of the above. Only main difference is that, on the old W10 setting, whenever I started a MS Teams meeting or received a phone call via MS Teams, I would listen to it on another set of headphones I have connected via USB. They were exclusively for MS Teams audio, all other sources would come out from the wireless bluetooth speaker. Now it doesn't happen. Whenever I receive a call or start or join a meeting on MS Teams, both devices keep emitting sound at the same time (USB Headset with MS Teams audio and bluetooth speaker with whatever is playing in the background) and as you may imagine, its terrible. I've tried to set the Windows settings to mute all background sounds when detecting communication, but nothing has worked. Device is HP Pro Mini EliteDesk 400 G9 Desktop PC. Windows version 24H2 26100.4946. Bluetooth speaker is: 1Hora BOC060

Discussion Employee Randomly Removed From Chat

One of my employees keeps getting removed from a particular chat. It is only one specific chat, and none of his teammates are having the same issue. I have several employees that are all in the same different chats, but for whatever reason this one person keeps getting removed from this one specific chat. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this to happen?

Discussion Teams - Remotely end a call on a Yealink Meetingboard Pro (Android 13)

The Yealink MeetingBoard Pro features wireless, battery-powered mics and a USB presentation dongle for cable-free use. However, ending a call requires physically approaching the board, which is inconvenient in large rooms (20 meters of sheepishly walking to the front to end the call). Is there a generic Bluetooth or wireless (USB) device compatible with a Yealink MeetingBoard Pro or Android 13 that allows remote call termination without extra cabling or accessories?

❔Question/Help Is Clippy back? Or better... What is Paperclip????

Thumbnail

Check the screen capture, the icon is definetely Clippy but it's called paperclip now?

I searched and all I could find are people complaining the attachment button is missing..

By the way when I click it (second slide), it just add my name on the pop-up and adds a number two rightside the icon.

Zero information on this one, I might be dumb enough to miss it, so that's why I'm asking!

❔Question/Help I keep getting this when I try to sign in… I’m a student

I’ve never seen this error before… I’ve always been able to access my teams school account, even during the summer. I’m a rising senior, so i’ll still need to use the account during the school year. So why do I not have the ability to access teams? So confused. Obviously i’m going to contact my school about this but I am curious if anyone with a school account is having the same issue.

❔Question/Help Need help - National Level

I work for a global company. About 10 days ago I noticed an issue with Teams where if I call someone they can be on camera or share their screen, but I can't. And when they call me the opposite. So who ever initiates the call cannot share their screen or be on camera.

This doesn't happen if there is a meeting on the calendar.

Our IT group is contingent workers that are mainly overseas. This issue has been elevated to MS Teams support.

I'm in sales and they keep asking me to get on with them to show the issue. It seems crazy to me that so many people are reporting the exact same issue but that it hasn't had a single email goo out to address let it be known there is an issue or that somehow Microsoft can have this happen to such a large organization.

If anyone knows what's going on I'll take any suggestions.

❔Question/Help Please help with inactive tenant issue

Hi everyone! I'm a global admin for a tenant that expired due to inactivity. It used to be Teams tenant back when Teams was fully free for business up to 300 users. Since Teams went to paid or personal, it was still used for SharePoint and there's some data on there we'd like to offload. When I sign in, I'm greeting with this error message AADSTS5000225 which points me to this webpage https://aka.ms/TenantLifecycle which states global admins can reactivate an expired tenant by "calling Microsoft support" with links to phone numbers. I've opened no less than 5 tickets, all get routed to various departments like Azure, Teams, and Data Protection all who have no idea what to do or how to accomplish this. The error message says if my tenant isn't reactivated within 20 days all data will be deleted and I'm coming dangerously close to those 20 days. Does anyone have an idea or can help? Thank you in advance!

❔Question/Help Possible (Teams) bug when using Microsoft Phone Link

This might be a bug, but if I can get help, that'd be much better...

Well, when "Microsoft Phone Link" is on, on my android phone and connected to the "Phone Link" app on my PC, when I receive a Teams call I can only answer the call on my mobile device... I've been answering on my phone, then I tell the person I need to hang up and call the person back on Teams using my PC.

I like Microsoft's Phone Link, but if I can't resolve this issue, I'll just have to not use Phone Link.

❔Question/Help Teams Phone Configuration Consultant

We are a mid-sized company that uses Microsoft Teams Phone as our phone system. We have auto-attendants and call queues setup. Over the past couple of months, we’ve had complaints from callers who have, it seems, been routed into purgatory. We haven’t changed any of our call queue or auto-attendant settings. Can any of yall recommend a consultant to review our settings to help us figure out what the problem is?

❔Question/Help Desk Mic Recommendations

Hi,

I’m looking to buy a microphone for Microsoft Teams meetings. My room isn’t acoustically treated, and I’ll usually be sitting about two feet away from the mic. My mechanical keyboard will be between me and the microphone, so I want to avoid having the typing sound come through too loudly. The microphone will be plugged directly into my laptop via USB, and ideally it wouldn’t be visible on camera during meetings. My goal is to move away from wearing a headset while still maintaining clear audio quality.

Do you have a microphone you’d recommend for this setup?

Thanks

❔Question/Help How is someone appearing as Presenting all day?

Someone in work is appearing as presenting all day, even though I know they are not actually in a Teams call and presenting all day. Even over lunch time it had them still as presenting.

They are known for going missing during work hours. Have they set up a Teams call meeting with just themselves and logged into and gone into present mode?

Even if they stepped away from the laptop would this not show them as Away after a while?

❔Question/Help deleting messages in dm

hi, just looking for some peace of mind here

I sent a chat (completely normal chat) in a 1-on-1 dm about accidentally getting on the wrong train, while I was in the train, so it wasn't sending, so I pressed cancel send. then I got off the train, and wrote a similar message but I said I missed my stop. both of these things were actually true. but then when I sent the new message, the old message was still showing in the chat (despite disappearing before) so I quickly held down on it and pressed "delete." it disappeared. but now, I have no way to tell if it actually disappeared, or just on my end. it had not yet been read. obviously I dont really mind, it's more just about the embarrassment of double sending and the minor discrepancy in story which might make it seem fabricated when it wasn't at all. am I being paranoid here?

Tip Why should my company adopt Microsoft Teams Phone System?

Our Managing Director has been pushing us to explore the Microsoft Teams Phone System and I wanted to hear from people who’ve actually used it in their businesses.

To give you some context:

  • We’re a mid-sized Gen Ai Based Chatbot organization with a mix of office-based and remote/WFH staff.
  • Currently, we don’t have a proper service desk or a centralized phone solution. To generally connect with the prospect we schedule the meetings in the Outlook . Our Customers are mostly from EMEA region
  • We already use Microsoft Teams extensively for internal meetings, chat, and collaboration — so the idea is to extend it into our telephony solution as well.

From what I’ve read, Teams Phone basically lets you replace a traditional PBX or on-prem phone system. Instead of managing desk phones, wiring, and exchanges, it’s all cloud-based. You can assign real phone numbers to employees, and calls can ring directly on their Teams app (mobile/PC) or on supported desk phones. For those who only need internal calls, they just use their Teams license without needing a phone line.

TL;DR -> Kindly Mention Me like How it could Leverage our Buisiness Thanks

❔Question/Help Dial plan normalization rules

We have 900 users, and each has a Direct Number +662096xxxx and an Extension, which are the last four digits. The requirement is that when we dial a 4-digit extension, it should be translated to +662096xxxx;ext=xxxx.

The number dialed matches this regular expression: ^(\d{4})$

Translate to: +662096$1;ext=$1

When testing in the Dial Plan Test, the result is as desired. However, when making an actual call through the Microsoft Teams app using the number 5155, it is only translated to +6620965155, and ;ext=5155 is not included, which prevents the call from connecting.

Please provide some guidance.
