Ghostbloods 1 spoilers Ghostbloods Update One Spoiler

1.9k Upvotes

Hey, all! I thought I'd stop by and post an update to your new book, which I've been working on diligently these last few months.

If you've been following along on the Weekly Updates, you'll know that I've been making slow and steady progress. Well, last week I passed the 50% mark, and hit the "midpoint" of the first book. It's been a blast to be back on Scadrial, working on the modern era of Mistborn--something I began outlining in 2005! (Wax and Wayne was not part of the plan back then. I'm glad I did it though, as it would have been too long a wait otherwise. Twenty years!)

The story is following a new recruit into the Ghostbloods, and...well, I don't want to say too much. We've got three years until the book comes out. As a reminder, my plan is to write all three before the first one is out. There are some things I can tell you, though, so I'll put those in the spoiler tag below.

[Spoiler] I had originally talked about this being about a nicroburst who helped with an apparent Mistborn serial killer. I've moved away from this as the central plot for a couple of reasons. First, I feel the story with Bleeder covered this serial killer angle in era two, and I don't want to do something similar. Second, era two was able to establish some of the things I wanted this story to introduce, and I feel I can move ahead a little. So, while the lead is one of the same characters I've been planning a while, she's going to be involved in something else, originally planned for the second book. Note that the lead is not the nicroburst character, whom I'll make use of a little later. But yes, the space race is still very much the central plot of the trilogy as a whole. If you want more clues as to where I'm going with this, Isles of the Emberdark might have them for you...

I am going to take a break to do some revisions on the book and work on something else you might find exciting: the comprehensive document explaining Malwish medallions, airships, and the very complicated details of how that all works. (The things that are too granular to go in the books.) I would like to have this done pretty soon, as I promised to release these mechanics once Lost Metal was out--but I haven't been able to find my original notes document about this, and have to reproduce it from scratch. (I've been putting off doing this, as I'm sure the notes file is hiding on my hard drive somewhere. Usually, I don't have trouble finding these things, but this one has eluded me. So I'm just going to remake it, let editorial/arcanists look it over, and get all the fundamental cosmere science explanations in place before this book is ready for beta reads.)

I'm traveling extensively next month (for my anniversary, then a trip to Spain, then probably a drop by to tour the Avengers set in London, since I've got some friends working on the film.) So expect the percentage bar to stay static for a little while, but don't be concerned. I'll be using that time to work on the notes document, and probably to work a little on the Mistborn screenplay. (Don't get too excited; it's not anywhere close to being made. I haven't even resold the rights yet. I merely want to have it ready in case something does happen.)

As always, thanks for your support and enthusiasm! And I apologize in advance if I am unable to answer many questions or comments in this thread, as I've got a lot going on.

Brandon

Secret History spoilers Thoughts after BoM Spoiler

I've read SH after HoA, and SH tag is here only because I have a theory about Kelsier coming back. So there's my opinion about BoM, some loose thoughts and theory about Kel return.

BoM was really good, still my fav era 2 book is Alloy of law, but its still like solid 8/10, maybe coming to lower 9/10, like 8,5/10. I suspected that Telsin is working for the Set from the moment it was said she's alive, but I was shocked that she is higher in ranks than Edward, not even talking about that red eyed kandra from epilogue, like what are they? There's one thing coming to my mind, that they have two, or more, spikes made of that Trell metal.

Talking about Trell I think it's another shard, but I don't have idea what shard could it be. And it made me think about one thing, does every shard have thier own god metal, if yes does shard combinations do as well? Like is there sazedium? (both atium and lerasium have names made from people holding shards of Ruin and Preservation, so it would be logical that Harmony metal would as well)

And I think that that coppermind from epilogue was Kel's, don't have idea how he have his body back, like person with sacrs on thier arms, it's 100% Kelsier. I doubt it's a kandra like they need trellium spike to use hemalurgy and TenSoon (who if I remember correctly transformed into Kel in HoA) discovered that in Shadows of Self. So it's 100% Kel who somehow got back his body, and have a hemalurgic spike/s that let him make a copperming. But, just now something swept into my mind, shouldn't that person that created coin coppermind be Sovereign? Like he had one eye spiked, but I don't think that Sovereign is Lord Ruler, it just doesn't feel like him, and Bands of Mouring were literally a spearhead, and a spear is literally holy symbol of survivorists.

So there's my theory, Kel is Soveregin, and he'll comeback in The Lost Metal. We know from SH that he's still around, maybe Sazed gived him a new body (he changed Spooks, so recreating Kels doesn't sound impossible). Marsh (doubt someone created more Inqusitors, so one from AoL epilogue is Marsh) is still there, so Kel could somehow be still alive, maybe he got some atium to compound from Sazed as well with new body upgraded by Hemalurgy? So my theory is that Kel is Sovereign, and just started to hide after helping South Scadriel to live normally, or maybe he traveled more to idk other continents or something like that and helps other regions too? Wouldn't it be cool if Set was destroyed by army created by bunch of people from all of the Scadriel?

If I'm right and Kel returns it will be... at least interesting. End I've heard that you should read Emperor's Soul after BoM, so I'm going to do that.

early The Lost Metal spoilers Wayne: the … Spoiler

… sad clown.

Well, i am reading the last book of the second era and now im reading the MeLaan break up. [No spoilers from this part ahead, pls]. I always loved Wayne, but every time i wondered if he was really happy. He is silly, but sometimes he looks so self-deprecatingly, so insecure.

Now is explicit, He is heartbroken. And, now, i’m fullfill with sorrow, because i comprehend him. Past year and a half i was battling dysthymia (I though for many times i was worthless) and making people laugh was an escape valve.

I just want to say how i love how (even when presented in a sad way) a book can make people relate to characters and fell represented.

I’m sorry for my Ham’s rambling. I’ll take my lucky hat and return to my book!

*I’m not a native speaker and i’m improving my english. Sorry for any grammatical error (I don’t have a malwish medallion) or some phrase that seems exaggerated emotional.

The Lost Metal spoilers I have always wonder… Spoiler

I have always wonder that since Scadrial (planet of the Mistborn series takes place in) does not have a moon, where does this concept of “month” as a reference of time comes for them?

For your reference, here is where I am with my Cosmere reading journey:

Read: All Mistborn books (both era 1 and 2) including Secret History; Elantris (plus Emperor’s Soul), Warbreaker, White Sand and The Ways of Kings.

Currently Reading: The Words of Radiance (just a little over half way through at 53%)

Have not Read: Rest of Stormlight Archive series and its related novellas; any of the Secret Projects.

Well of Ascension spoilers Just finished TWA and here are some top of mind thoughts Spoiler

I’ve read The Final Empire and The Well of Asension back to back. I’ve enjoyed both of them. While reading TFE, someone mentioned that the second book wasn’t as good. But I somewhat disagree, I’ve enjoyed seeing the aftermath of an event that throws the world into a lot of chaos and uncertainty, somewhat mirroring what happens to Vin when losing the guide and comfort of Kelsier.

What I do feel that happens is that it becomes a bit stretched in the early mid part.

But most importantly, I feel that Zane is a character who had so much more potential but got diluted in an unnecessary love triangle.

Action sequences are fantastic, the Kandra spy plot is fun with a satisfying reveal, and Vin just becomes fucking metal heatbutting and chopping people in half. Sazed is one of my favorite characters and it’s just a clear setup to something much bigger in the next book.

Docksons and Clubs' deaths were a bit telegraphed and I just wish I could have seen more of them.

And Spook is just a chill guy that I also wish to see more of him and how Club's death affects him.

Ofc I’ll start almost immediately with The Hero of Ages. Somehow I’ve managed to not get anything spoiled which is nice, and that’s it. Just needed to write my most immediate thoughts after finishing the book.

Edit: WoA. I’m new here…

Hero of Ages spoilers Zane and Vin Spoiler

Did Ruin anticipate Vin defeating Zane without atium? I feel like Vin winning was a very unlikely outcome, but Ruin threw them in a fight regardless? Did he recklessly risk losing Vin, the primary piece in his plan to free the himself at the well?

Well of Ascension spoilers How much time did Final Empire take place over? Spoiler

So how much time did the whole book take place over. Also how long was Vin getting trained by Kelsier/practice with the metals during the first book, because I think by even the start of well of ascension she is a lot stronger than him.

Hero of Ages spoilers [Era 1] limits of Feruchemy time release Spoiler

So, we get told you can store up strength, then release it in half the time, to get double.

But what's the limit to that? Can you release a month's strength in a nanosecond to basically be a nuke or something?

Well of Ascension spoilers Just finished book 2 Spoiler

I finished book 2 and I am very pleased to have been able to predict some things like the spirit that Vin, and in the past Alendi, saw was something I was trying to help.

The well being Luthedel was also something I realised right from the beginning.

Vin wasn't the Hero of the Ages either but this one was almost obvious.

I was just upset that I never doubted OreSeur being the spy, I didn't know that Kandras could kill Kandras and even finding out who the spy was it didn't even cross my mind to be him. But that's it, if I got all my predictions right, I would never like the book.

Unfortunately in GoodReads you can only evaluate the books from 0 to 5 and I gave 4 to this one and the Final Empire. Most books I give 5 stars but in fact I don't have many that are 5 stars are simply above 4.5 and I end up giving 5. The Mistborn ones that I've read so far were 4.3 and 4.4 so 4.

Fair warning, only on Chapter 31 of Hero of Ages

Did the Lord Ruler plan on just waiting Ruin out and letting Preservation eventually win? I mean he moved the Well close to him, made moves to ensure that he could stay in power and there wouldnt be many to oppose him, yet didn't actively fight Ruin any more after his first trip to the Well.

Could it be simply he didn't know how Ruin worked simply that his reach was far and he was powerful and scary?

Curious speculation from a first time reader with no one to talk to about these books.

Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers Terminando o livro 1, mas… Spoiler

Mistborn: The Final Empire – My Thoughts

This was one of my most anticipated reads. At first, I thought jumping from a classic like The Hobbit straight into modern fantasy would feel overwhelming—but hell no, this turned out to be the fastest I’ve ever finished a book. Just three days! A lot of credit goes to Brandon Sanderson's writing, I’d already read The Emperor’s Soul, so I was familiar with his writing, and that familiarity only enhanced my experience here. Honestly, this might be the best reading experience I’ve had so far.

Things I Loved--
I’d say I loved about 95% of this book. The story, plot, pacing, worldbuilding, and characters everything was so well-crafted. The pacing especially stood out: not a single moment felt wasted. Every word seemed to matter, whether for the plot or the characters.
Worldbuilding:-
I’d heard a lot about Sanderson’s worldbuilding, and wow, now I get why he’s so celebrated for it. The ashfalls, the mists, the rainy nights, the palaces, Luthadel, Fellise each location felt vivid. I could practically see the ash falling and feel the mist at night. The magic system was unique and fascinating too. It wasn’t dumped all at once but revealed bit by bit through the story, making it easy to follow yet endlessly intriguing.
Characters & Plot:-
This book is constantly moving forward..tightly written, no dragging. And the characters… I LOVE KELSIER. Honestly, he’s probably one of my favorite characters in all of fantasy so far. Every scene with him shines because of his charisma, the way he speaks, that mischievous smile—he just lights up the page. His relationship with Vin was beautiful; he completely changed her worldview. She really became the daughter he and Mare had dreamed of. I’ll miss their late-night talks on rooftops in the mist so much.
What made Kelsier so human, though, was his hidden layers the trauma, the anger, and still, the hope he carried. My favorite scene has to be that balcony conversation with Vin. The dialogue was so raw and emotional,
“Do you stop loving someone just because they betray you? I don’t think so. That’s what makes the betrayal hurt so much—pain, frustration, anger… and I still loved her. I still do.”
“I decided that I’d see her dream fulfilled. I’d make a world where flowers returned, a world with green plants, a world where no soot fell from the sky…”
His death completely shocked me. Who saw that coming hn? But the way he went out—standing as a symbol of hope in front of everyone, unafraid, proving no one should bow to tyranny—was incredible. it was such strong moment, for himself and the whole book.

Things I Didn’t Like as Much
Here’s where my small problems come in.
Climax / Lord Ruler:
Kelsier’s death felt like the perfect climax, a natural stopping point. The rebellion was rising, Elend was stepping up, and it all could’ve ended on that spark. But then the Lord Ruler—who barely appeared until the final third—gets taken down so suddenly, by someone so inexperienced? Don’t get me wrong, the twist was clever, but it felt a bit rushed, almost anticlimactic. It seemed like something that could’ve been stretched across the trilogy, not wrapped up in book one.
Vin & Elend:
I liked Elend a lot, and his role in calming chaos was great. But his romance with Vin felt rushed. She spent the whole book not trusting anyone, and suddenly she’s crying for him? It felt forced. That said, it does make sense in a way—she’s still a teenager, figuring out emotions, so it’s believable from that angle. Still, I wish Elend’s character had more depth shown early on—like sometimes visiting skaa quarters or showing more interest in their struggles by not just telling it—rather than mostly being Vin’s romantic partner.
Future Conflict:
With the Lord Ruler gone already, I’m curious (and a little worried) about where the main conflict goes from here. There’s still a lot of mystery around Allomancy, Feruchemy, which I’m excited about, but I’m not sure what the big overarching story will be now that the “godlike ruler” is gone.
Sazed also stood out—mysterious, dependable, and intriguing with his own unique powers. I’m excited to see more of him in the next two books.

Final Thoughts
In the end, this was an amazing first step into a full fantasy trilogy for me. I won’t nitpick too much...I’ll just enjoy the rest of the journey at my own pace.

Rating: 9.7/10
Now, time to fade back into the mist and dive into book two. tell me it gets better and better now on....

Finished final empire ueeee! I liked it so much that I can't give it a high rating, because it always lacks more depth in the scenes, like it always lacks some phrase to finish immersing you, I hope that improves that with the next books, for everything else the story is very good

mid-Hero of Ages spoilers Thoughts on this guy? Spoiler

Hello everyone,

I'm currently reading book 3, I'm on page 265 or something.

I'd been losing interest in this series since I've taken ages to read book 2 (too much politics imo but the third book compensates).

Quellion, a skaa that seized power after the Revolution, reminds me of communist leaders : expropriation of nobles from their houses, propaganda, cult of personality, use of violence to keep everyone under control, forcing inhabitants to share their houses with strangers because everyone has to help one another.

So yeah, I noticed that it was an interesting take on communism and more generally, people who are hypocritical because they criticise olden political systems and re-enact those same behaviours old tyrants like Lord Ruler used to have.

I also find it interesting that the name Quellion, could be made up of two words : to quell and rebellion

Kinda ironic as he took power after a revolution and now quells any rebellion against him.

What do you think about that ?

I know people are going to say "it's blatant that the revolution against Lord Ruler was inspired by the French Revolution" but honestly, and I'm French, I never thought of the French Revolution.

  1. Kelsier - Rick flag from creature commando, in the audiobooks his voice even feels similar experienced, clever, a natural leader.
  2. Vin – Duh… she’s literally on the cover page lmao.
  3. Dockson – Ewan McGregor. He’s got that friendly, dependable face but also someone who can handle strategy.
  4. Marsh – Vander from Arcane. Serious, older brother energy.
  5. Sazed – Grey Worm from Got. That wise, loyal, servant-scholar type of presence
  6. Breeze – Sirius Black, he gave me same vibe Charming, and a little dramatic, so it works for me.

Don’t kill me if I’m wrong lol I’ve only read Part 1 so far (up to that vin's noble house ball arc), so please no spoilers beyond this point I’m kindly requesting 🙏
