r/Monk Chat Thread
Hi everyone! Welcome to r/Monk. We are trying to limit the posting of frequently discussed topics, so this thread is the place for general chit-chat about Monk. There will be a new post every month.
Please do not make new posts about topics such as the following. (Instead, discuss here!)
- "I just started watching Monk," or just finished the series, or just watched the movie, etc.
- Ranking and favorite episodes, characters, quotes, etc.
- Natalie vs. Sharona

Monk's Street Corner (July 2020)
My wife and I took a road trip from LA to the Bay area during the pandemic and found a very familiar street corner. We just HAD to walk it and attempted to recreate the walk as best we could

“Could Monk Ever Work in Today’s World, or Would Only a Reboot Make Sense?” Example monk the last case
I watched it too and I really love Monk. I was born in 1993, and I think the world has changed a lot since 2001. They tried to continue the story after a long time. Monk is mostly watched by millennials and boomers, but I don’t think Gen Z (especially those born after 2002) really watch it. I believe they added the scene about Monk’s suicidal thoughts because of the impact of COVID-19.
Anyway, I enjoyed seeing the actors again, even though they looked so much older now. I think a sequel to Monk would be impossible because the world today is so different. Maybe in the future, they could create a reboot with new actors and different personalities playing Monk.

Randy in Manhattan
Why did Randy Disher get so wowed by the buildings in NYC, Monk lives in SF, it isn't like he is from Omaha (no shade)?

[Discussion] I found it weird they never acknowledged how Monk was most human during this episode. The man was rolling on the dirt and stuff! I don't even remember seeing a single wipe in this episode.

[Discussion] The Holmes Inspiration
Of course, I'm not going to elaborate on the obvious same superhuman powers of deduction and analysis, but in other aspects.
Someone please correct me if I recall some of the Sherlock Lore incorrectly. With that, this is how I recall the dynamic of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes:
- They don't really get along, expect for circumstances which are critical.
- Despite their current standing, they still act like kids toward each other.
- While Mycroft is seemingly the "intellectually superior" brother, he's just not interested in doing the actual field work, and prefers to "WORK INSIDE" (In Mycroft's case, he works for the government, or as others would say, he IS the government)
- Despite Sherlock's reputation as a brilliant detective, Mycroft always thought he was brash, careless, and wild.
Bonus Character Descriptions:
While Sherlock does the detective work and solves crimes, he is not the most sociable person, so his partner Watson, a doctor, takes care of Sherlock (with utmost tolerance and sometimes even a certain amount of reluctance). Watson also has to be the "people person" whenever the investigation requires interactions with other people. Sherlock talks to people yeah, but he just sucks at being sociable.
Sherlock is technically not part of the police, but he is regularly employed by Lestrade, the lead inspector (or captain), who in time has become a good friend to Holmes.

[Discussion] Where the Natalie Season 3 episodes written for Sharona initially? Or would Natalie have appeared as a separate character, if Sharona had stayed?
SPOILERS
Watching Season 3 Episode 15 now, this episode is about Natalie practically. So if Sharona had stayed, would Natalie have appeared as a separate character in that episode? Or would that episode had been about Sharona (which is a bit weird, I can't imagine Sharona running for school council and that "Mitch was a coward" story is like the main point about the episode, why Natalie keeps going).
Have there been any comments from the show producers about that? Or was this only the case for some of the Season 3 and maybe Season 4 episodes?
