❓ Trivia In Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004) Michael Madsen is wearing his own hat against Tarantinos initial wish. The line in which the characters boss tells him to take off his "fucking" hat was not in the script, and probably planned by Tarantino.
So a bit fiddly fitting everything in the title so I am elaborating here. During rehearsal of Kill Bill vol. 2 Michael Madsen was wearing his own hat. Afterwards Quentin comes up to him and says “You don’t think you are going to be wearing that hat in the movie, do you?” Michael was not planning to, he was just wearing his hat, but now kinda wants to since someone told him not to. The next day Quentin tells him he now wants him to wear the hat so he does. In the scene in the bar where he goes “That fucking hat. I want you to keep that shit kicker hat at home”. The lines were not in the script and that was Michaels genuine reaction. He believes that it was planned by Quentin and Larry Bishop.

“That woman deserves her revenge.”
“And we deserve to die.”

That is an aspect I liked of Kill Bill. There was an underlying respect & understanding amongst these vile murderers.

Yep same with Beatrix holding back in front of Vernita’s kid. Jesus I love this movie so much.

and her telling her that when she is older and if she still feels raw about it, that she understands.
I would loved to have seen that happen in Kill Bill 3

u/RubyStar92 Jul 10 '25
QT has mentioned that he is planning exactly that to happen and is just waiting for everyone to get to the age he plans the characters to be.

Tarantino had that thing parked outside his house for so long that the paint faded. It was in two Google earth updates, which can happen years apart.

People are allowed to have personal favorites, completely independent of whatever the consensus of that movie’s quality. It could be their favorite just because they saw it with their family as a kid and it was a great time, idk, it doesn’t really matter.
I wouldn’t trust the opinion of anyone who believes otherwise, because if you can’t allow yourself to have feelings about something that don’t fall in line with general public sentiment, then you’re probably just parroting your thoughts on any of the other things you like.
TL;DR: chill out man, be free and have fun.

Great moment.
My favourite is: "Can't we just...forget the past?"
"That woman deserves her revenge...and we deserve to die"

Except Elle. She was just evil.

Maybe, I got the sense that she had a chip on her shoulder about being Bill's favourite.

Probably didn't help that Daryl Hannah and Uma Thurman did not like each other at all on set.

"Workin' Thursday?" Yeah.

Everything that involved Bud was gold. The strip club, the burial, his eventual death...all great

u/TheMaveCan Jul 08 '25
"That girl deserves her revenge. And we deserve to die. Then again, so does she so I guess we'll see what happens."
You could tell Bud spent a lot of time guilty about what happened at Kiddo's wedding. He wasn't gonna roll over, but there's no doubt in my mind that Bud knew Kiddo would escape that coffin.
106
u/zippazappadoo Jul 08 '25
Yea if Bud wanted her dead he had ample opportunity to kill her. He could've loaded his shotgun with buckshot and blown her away. He could've shot her or stabbed her or strangled her before burying her and it would've been over. Bud clearly had the most regrets about what they did at the wedding and it seems like he had a soft spot for The Bride because he decided to give her a chance to survive and come back despite knowing her goal would be to come back again and try to kill him.

There’s no way Bud knew she was getting out
I don’t think he knew, but given how he could have killed her any number of ways I think he buried her alive as a test. If she passed, then she earned her revenge.

I always wished we could've gotten more info on Bill and Budd growing up/rise to infamy... How they became assassins and so well known. They both somehow earned Hattori Hanzo blades (unless at one point he was simply selling them for money). They had a falling out and the movie never made it seem like it was due to killing the Bride. Seems like Budd stopped being able to kill for money or something, which I guess can just be because his conscience got the better of him, but unless there's more out there I never read who knows.

u/Antheral Jul 08 '25
That's why it's such a good movie, it leaves you curious and wanting more... if QT spelled out the whole backstory and made a bunch of sequels and spinoffs we'd all be sick of it by now lol

u/XeLLoTAth777 Jul 09 '25
I always thought bill stole one for Bud after the blood oath and had it engraved, hence why Beatrix told Hattori that "she wasn't asking" because it's not like Bill asked either.

No, I'm planning to watch both this weekend. I just listened to the first podcast featuring Michael I could find when I heard the news.

LOL just noticed that now, man. I kinda feel like Tarantino's a genius at these lil' easter eggs hidden in plain sight.

u/Famous-Bar2153 Jul 14 '25
gotta admit, QT's attention to detail in his movies is just mad. Like, he's in his own league. Buddy Mike here, being a scrubby bum but still stylin' a badass Rolex? That's distinct stuff.

u/Ok-Middle326 Jul 14 '25
Lol, man, gotta say QT's attention to detail is legit next level. Dude doesn't miss a beat! Clothing palettes matching characters' arcs? Mind = blown.

And Mike also said that his reaction was actually real when the boss told him to take his hat off. Yeah, sure it's the last strip of dignity Budd had left, but you could see it on Mike's face....hes like "Fuckin Tarantino"

Fun story, Michael was shooting a promo for a project and I got to meet him on set. His character was based on him and his look, so he rolled up in his signature blinged-out Western wear. Then he changed into his costume...a different blinged-out western wear outfit that he brought with him.
He was awesome in person.
