🥚 Easter Egg Meet the Parents (2000) The opening lines to the theme song "A Fool in Love" by Randy Newman are literally describing the Universal and Dreamworks logos

Red headed lady reaches for an apple is the 1st thing I thought of. That Family Guy bit also predates this movie by a year lol

I contend that is the best family guy episode by a long shot. Others may like to e Star Wars spin offs just because of the gag and such.
But the writing, pacing, and storyline of that episode is by far the cleanest and feels like an actual episode of plot

Why does it have the most memorable gags? Do you know how long I've randomly been asking nobody to show me potato salad?

DO NOTE that International cuts of the film omit this detail due to the logos being swapped

I remember realizing this when I first saw the movie, but only because my sister, as a prank, put the DVD into French with English subtitles for the hard of hearing. For some reason, the French sound track blotted out the music at the beginning (or replaced it with an instrumental track, it's been a while since I saw the movie), so I just see these words literally describing what's happening on screen. My first thought was, "This can't be how the movie starts".

I’ve quoted the Boy on the Moon line for years, nobody ever gets it but I sing it regularly to myself, usually whenever I see a good moon or something

Literally, the worst writer/musician of all time. But what do I know?

The man has made an entire career writing songs for musicals that don't exist, plus some film scores (as is family tradition). Also, "When Somebody Loved Me" is incredible. But yes, many of his songs are better when sung by other people (unless the protagonist is a sad-sounding old man)

No doubt!

For "Best when sung by Randy Newman", I recommend "She Chose Me" and "Wandering Boy"

‘It’s just Randy Newman singin’ about what he sees’
