This subreddit is dedicated to promoting honest discussion of the DPRK. Please review the rules, and feel free to visit our extensive collection of DPRK reading materials here. We also urge visitors to consider listening to Blowback Season 3 about the Korean War (or at least the first episode) to get a good, clear, entertaining and exceedingly well-researched education on the material conditions and conflict that gave rise to the DPRK.

Also a westerner so any corrections, or additions is much appreciated from our more knowledgeable comrades.

Juche is in a basic sense simply self reliance. Not in the individualistic way us westerners are programmed to think, but instead as a community, and in this case the whole of the DPRK. The Koreans learnt through their dealings with other, especially colonial, nations that outsiders tend to want to just take advantage of them. Through revolutionary self reliance they can best support their people without the need to worry about what others may think or want. Needing help to sustain a basic need of the people is a recipe for whoever is giving the help to also exert their will on you.

Communism with the added encouragement / added value placed on self-sufficiency.

The ability to provide for their people even when external forces pressure and destablise you.

Marxism fitted to the conditions of Korea formulated by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il

A lot of great answers here I would like to add that I view Juche as a Marxist Leninist system that rightfully recognizes that the struggle against imperialism is the highest form of class struggle.
