discussion Saw Chevelle live tonight for the first time
All I can say is: wow! This might read more like an r/offmychest post, but here goes.
I was never a hater. Just wasn’t in my wheelhouse (power/progressive metal, prog rock, and the offshoots associated with that umbrella).
I knew the hits. Spouse has always been a fan, and she wanted to tonight—we saw the Washington DC tour stop.
I know these guys are often derided with the pejorative “Butt Rock” moniker. I’ve always hated that sort of gatekeeping. I never cared for people who have something negative to say about someone’s taste in music.
But holy shit. These guys really deliver. They are absolute riff and hook masters. No extended talking between songs, just a 90 minute set that ROCKED HARD.
I was also heartened by the number of younger people there. I’m in my late 50s and it just warmed my heart. Now, the opening and direct support acts were Dead Poet Society and Asking Alexandria, respectively. Stylistically very different from Chevelle, so maybe that was what drew in the younger crowd. But they were totally into the set, knew every single song and were belting out the lyrics.
Don’t let your or others’ preconceptions steer you.
That is all. Cheers!

discussion Albums that got you through hard times
I don't know if this belongs here, but I felt like sharing anyway. I've been going through a lot medically lately and for some reason my brain decided to latch onto Barometer Soup by Jimmy Buffett. Like, the entire album over and over again for two weeks. Maybe I'll always associate it with being in the hospital, but it's been keeping me sane. Has anyone else had something like this? What was your comfort music?

discussion Acts/Artists who slipped under the radar with little to no commercial success while making excellent music ?
Killing Joke are for the most part excellent but yet only 1 uk top 20 hit ?
The Fall's early catalogue is banger after banger from 79 to 86 while the uncommercial singles only reached the uk top 40 on 3 occasions ?
Wire/Wir had a fantastic critically acclaimed 3 LP run in the late 70s but the singles bombed hard and failed to make the charts ?
Anyone else worth checking out ?

discussion what is the point of having a coded presale if everyone can sign up?
basically just the title. For Sabrina Carpenter, like 90% of the venue tickets were sold at the presale. What is even the point of having a presale and an onsale??? Why make it something you can just sign up for with no prior requirement??? IIRC for taylor’s lover tour before it got cancelled you could sign up and they only accepted a limited amount of people, not EVERYONE. that is how it SHOULD be.

youtu.bediscussion Action-scenes synchronized to music?
They're an obsession of mine (and to my knowledge a lot of other people find them pleasing too) so I'm pretty much looking for any fights, foot-chases, car-chases, even excercise scenes I can find that fits the bill; movie scenes, tv scenes, animations, advertisements, music videos, anything. I love enjoying them and sharing them and I wonder if anyone else has the same sharp interest that I do in "Mickey-Moused" direction (when what you're seeing on-screen is in rhythm with the soundtrack, but not necessarily for the sake of a musical number or to dance)
I know Baby Driver, Quicksilver from X-men, I know Hi-Fi Rush and Dead as disco, I know the one scene in Shaun of the Dead, I know Puss in Boots; Last Wish, and there are a handful of other ones I've seen over the years but it's honestly pretty rare for how satisfying it can be to watch.

discussion 2112 is still the greatest mini rock opera
I feel like nowadays this album gets outshined by some more prominent Rush records. I know it’s monumental in its own right but I still feel like it doesn’t get the attention. It deserves especially compared to something like Tom Sawyer or lime light. The album is near perfect but the actual title song is literally the basis of all rock anthems to come after.
