it's just a joke. like "that's crazy considering you could be listening to X artist instead." i dont think it has anything to do with suggesting he's a rapper.

The joke definitely insinuates that John Prine is a rapper in this context. If the title just said “artist” and not specifically “rapper” it would’ve been an alright joke, but it straight up does not work here

yeah, jokes sometimes rely on an subversion of expectations, like bringing up a old, white folk artist in a conversation about a young, black rap artist.
