11 u/flanndiggs Oct 14 '17 Amen to that. Can you imagine if there was no neutral party and the judges, prosecutors, and cops had the only say? Crazy corruption. -1 u/[deleted] Oct 14 '17 [deleted] 4 u/[deleted] Oct 14 '17 Wow, I'd hate to live there. 1 u/RalphieRaccoon Oct 14 '17 Not for serious accusations such as this. 0 u/[deleted] Oct 14 '17 [deleted] 5 u/RalphieRaccoon Oct 14 '17 We have jury trials here in the UK. And I'm glad we do. For an accusation such as rape where the consequences are a long prison spell and a life ruined, having just a judge preside over is not good enough. 1 u/[deleted] Oct 14 '17 That's a really good point too... ah this is too complicated for me. 1 u/[deleted] Oct 14 '17 [deleted] 3 u/nixonrichard Oct 14 '17 But in the US, our history was what caused us to question the integrity of non-jury trials. Also, in the US, you can always choose the option of a bench trial. Most defendants opt for a jury. 3 u/[deleted] Oct 14 '17 [deleted] 1 u/nixonrichard Oct 14 '17 Yeah, I don't know why people downvote stuff. Ever.
