Amen to that. Can you imagine if there was no neutral party and the judges, prosecutors, and cops had the only say? Crazy corruption.

We have jury trials here in the UK. And I'm glad we do. For an accusation such as rape where the consequences are a long prison spell and a life ruined, having just a judge preside over is not good enough.

But in the US, our history was what caused us to question the integrity of non-jury trials.

Also, in the US, you can always choose the option of a bench trial. Most defendants opt for a jury.
