WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THEY’RE RUNNING FIVE TRUCKS NEXT YEAR WHAT???

148

u/SpenceSmithback 5d ago

Up to five. Exact number depends on how many kids show up at the door with a check

61

u/Smoke96x Hocevar 5d ago

I have 3 dollars

29

u/Dont_hate_the_8 5d ago

In check form?

14

u/HellPhish89 Earnhardt Jr. 5d ago

Processing fee: 4 dollars

4

u/Vergenbuurg 5d ago

I'll toss in fiddy cents.

31

u/AFrenchNASCARFan 5d ago

Kris Wright is calling his bank right now

20

u/twisted_nipples82 5d ago

Bankrupt Dodge before they even get to Talladega

6

u/BeamerBall57 Nemechek 5d ago

FNB to be exact

1

u/mopar39426ml 5d ago

I don't think Wright even has a Dodge/Ram dealer... They've got pretty much everything else though.

Edit: they don't, and have fewer dealers than I remembered.

1

u/mkelley22 Berry 5d ago

Ram is funding this whole operation tho

0

u/Ryuzakku 5d ago

Four kids with cheques, and however many races Chastain wants to run if he isn’t running with Niece

7

u/KeithMcGeesMoose Enfinger 5d ago

Chastain isn't going to run a non-Chevy

0

u/Ryuzakku 5d ago

Yeah I suppose your right…

…Unless Trackhouse changes their manufacturer, since they’ll never be a T-1 Chevy team

1

u/Tanglepelt Hamlin 5d ago

Toyota and ford aren’t letting their drivers run for Ram either.

1

u/ToddtheRugerKid 4d ago

Trackhouse is going to to to Mercedes here in a few years, out of fucking NOWHERE.

15

u/RayneShikama 5d ago

‘Up to’ five trucks. Probably 3 full time trucks and then somehow bringing out two other trucks for big races.

4

u/halfthesub 5d ago

Running a Truck team is way cheaper than running a Cup team lol. It helps even more considering this is going to be the factory team.

7

u/ChaseTheFalcon 5d ago

It's cheaper but the payout is WAY less

2

u/ReSirum 5d ago

It's cheaper but it also makes way less money in return.

147

u/Tfcas119 5d ago

So like 20yrs ago when Bill Davis ran Toyotas in Trucks and Dodge in Cup.

Also RIP any remaining competitiveness of Kaulig Xfinity and Cup teams

71

u/CompleteUnknown65 5d ago

Ironic that Ram/Dodge is on the other side of it this time

62

u/nascarfan624 5d ago

Those Dodge noses are the definition of pure, unadulterated pornography

17

u/Dickis88 Earnhardt Jr. 5d ago

Which is wild because they were pretty much hated across the board by everyone that drove them. That's why they rounded it out hard in 2007 and almost just turned it back into the intrepid nose.

5

u/fleshwound_NPG 5d ago

except for kahne on the 1.5-2.0 tracks

3

u/haydonclampitt 5d ago

What was so hated about them? Sensitivity in dirty air or something?

12

u/Ryuzakku 5d ago

They were debris magnets

7

u/haydonclampitt 5d ago

That would do it

7

u/mopar39426ml 5d ago

With the exception of the 2003 Grand Prix, I think Dodge had the best looking Gen4 cars.

27

u/Starman-DLX 5d ago

It’s those old Challenger bodies for me.

14

u/Schen_The_Genius 5d ago

I'm still pissed the 2013 car never got a chance. But Viper went back to IMSA and I was happy.

2

u/rctothefuture 4d ago

I was waiting to see Brad K in that with a Blue Deuce scheme. It would have been perfection

8

u/KeeperEUSC 5d ago

yeah, just my favorite looking modern era car.

0

u/Flameosaurus 5d ago

Goddamn I never realized how ugly those noses were

30

u/notatvguy Bell 5d ago

Allmendinger’s frustrating radio calls from the last couple months are making more sense now

9

u/coffeeshopslut 5d ago

What was he saying?

I just remember snippets of Richmond where he was basically like "why do I race?" and no matter how much video I watch, and how much sim time, I keep having the same issues (burning off the tires)

3

u/KeithMcGeesMoose Enfinger 5d ago

Eh, that's just AJ. I don't think there's any deeper meaning to it. He's always been pretty spicy on the radio

8

u/Otherwise_Dingo_2117 5d ago

I figured the xfinity team would be shut down.

10

u/Magnifico-Melon 5d ago

Chris Rice refuted those claims last week.

5

u/Otherwise_Dingo_2117 5d ago

It seems like it could be the Bill Davis Dodge/Toyota deal part 2.

6

u/Otherwise_Dingo_2117 5d ago

My feeble mind is thinking. Keep the Cup and Xfinity program across the RR tracks in Welcome.

Put the truck deal separate. Do it right when/if Dodge decides to go to Xfinity/Cup.

2

u/HellPhish89 Earnhardt Jr. 5d ago

Isnt it a rule Chrysler has to leave NASCAR when they win a championship? >_> lol

3

u/Tfcas119 5d ago

With Kaulig at the helm… unless they lure Heim away from Toyota or convince Eckes to go back to trucks they won’t be leaving

2

u/DPruitt3 Erik Jones 5d ago

I think it's short term dismally of performance in NXS and Cup. Gotta believe they are getting a cash infusion to shore up their entire operation.

With that being said, running a theoritical full Cup, NXS and Truck operation (engine shop too?!).... they'll need a full campus to do that. Building new seems cost inhibitive....unless a current team with an engine shop is also converting manufacturers as well....

1

u/Sir-Barks-a-Lot 5d ago

Ultra Motorsports was like that in 2000 wasnt it?

1

u/Fun-Monitor815 5d ago

“Dodge” same as MWR and Red Bull

42

u/bigmeech99 5d ago

So are they gonna run Ram trucks and Chevy xfinity/cup?

32

u/Leek_R 5d ago

Yeah. At least until Dodge returns to xfinity/cup

84

u/AnalBaguette 5d ago

One of the worst kept secrets in recent memory

115

u/ChaseTheFalcon 5d ago

About to be topped in 2 hours when Zilisch is announced to the 99

37

u/TrunkBud 5d ago

Bottoms are the worst at keeping secrets

5

u/nascarfan624 5d ago

I need context

14

u/Predator6 5d ago

And Byron on the cover of Nascar 25.

14

u/Boom_Confetti 5d ago

What an awful day to try to make a surprising announcement

2

u/dcarp1231 Ryan Blaney 5d ago

Plot twist… he’s announced to the (1)00

2

u/Rstuds7 Preece 5d ago

i mean it’s not really a secret it’s just logical move

11

u/TheRealCheeeser00 5d ago

Maybe as bad as Keselowski to RFK.

11

u/TonyHortonFanboy 5d ago

Larson to the 5 says hi, then again it was more posts of “is Larson reinstated” every hour that was worse.

2

u/ChaseTheFalcon 5d ago

Hi I have a quick question!

Is Larson reinstated yet?

2

u/TrainHunter94YT van Gisbergen 5d ago

I really gotta know if he was reinstated, was he?

Bill Davis Racing part 2: Stellantis Boogaloo

37

u/ChaseTheFalcon 5d ago edited 5d ago

That's gonna be awkward since they are located on RCR's campus

EDIT: apparently they own their own shop so nothing RCR/Chevy can do

23

u/Trackside_rumblings 5d ago

Sounds like there’s a shop in Welcome, but not on the RCR property that will be home to the Truck program

7

u/SeattlePassedTheBall 5d ago

If that's the case I don't know how it can really be considered the same team. Kinda like JGR ARCA for example, it's just two separate race teams operating under the Kaulig umbrella.

0

u/Dry-Membership3867 5d ago

Where does JGR have their ARCA team now?

7

u/SeattlePassedTheBall 5d ago

Probably the same location as their cup/Xfinity shop, I can't say for sure since JGR is one of the handful of teams I haven't been to, but I know it operates as a separate entity with completely different people working on them. It wouldn't be much different than JGR opening up an ice cream production plant on their campus, hiring 100% different people to run said plant, and then the only thing they have in common is they're both owned by Gibbs.

1

u/Dry-Membership3867 5d ago

I know they have some things in common though. As their cars are clearly faster than everyone else

3

u/SeattlePassedTheBall 5d ago

Yeah, a boatload of money to throw at the program. That's literally it.

That's like saying JGR and Hendrick have something in common as their cars are fast.

10

u/tylerscott5 5d ago edited 5d ago

Not really considering trucks all run the same power. This is way less difficult of an entry than Toyota with trucks 20 years ago. Toyota had to build an engine program, RAM can re-enter without doing so. Ironically the Ilmor power they run is a Chevy engine

And they’ll continue to be aligned with RCR in OAPS.

2

u/racer_24_4evr 5d ago

I think we need to abbreviate it to NORAPS.

10

u/Mainedog70 5d ago

Not for much longer.

27

u/WheedMBoise 5d ago

Why are those numbers so far forward 😬

I don’t mind it on the Cup car but it’s hideous on the truck

28

u/Smokeshow618 5d ago

Show truck with no contingincy stickers, they just maximized space for the ram logo since it doesn't need to meet competition standards

7

u/Smoke96x Hocevar 5d ago

Im sure its just a show truck, but I disagree about your take... I don't mind it at all with that scheme.

9

u/ItsASamsquanch_ Chastain 5d ago

“Breaking News: NASCAR fans hate change. More at 11”

1

u/2BirdsStoned-AtOnce 5d ago

Maybe I have shit taste but I think it looks great.

0

u/D4nkfury 5d ago

Tbh I think the forward numbers work better on the truck than cup. Maybe cause the center of gravity looks farther forward on the trucks or something idk

3

u/ElAbidingDuderino Chase Elliott 5d ago

They look good on any car/truck if the scheme fits

22

u/Girtonator NASCAR 5d ago

I’ve been ready for years

7

u/Arsanborn Chastain 5d ago

5 trucks seems aggressive!

My guess, employing Ty Dillon keeps them on the RCR campus for another year or 2, before the switchover in Cup becomes more serious.

2

u/2xmrk 5d ago

They own the building on the RCR campus.

14

u/CNASFan1992 5d ago

Wonder how Chevy is going to react to this

13

u/AFrenchNASCARFan 5d ago

0 support to Kaulig next year... I don't know how they will run in XFinity and Cup and how much they would have to downsize their. They wouldn't mind losing their charters because they would get them back for free with Dodge.

11

u/NatalieDeegan NASCAR 5d ago

I doubt they are giving support as is now, they would be fifth or sixth in the totem pole in getting support as is, probably Hyak is the other team on their level right now or worse.

3

u/didhestealtheraisins 5d ago

Listen to Almendinger’s radio from this season

25

u/Furi0usD Chastain 5d ago

Im sure pop-pop will blame Stellanis trying to bring a blue collar team down.

21

u/Tarkus-OR Benson 5d ago

The timing could not have been worse.

2

u/Furi0usD Chastain 5d ago

Somebody hold my blue collar Rolex

2

u/progress10 5d ago

Pop Pop would be talking to them if he wants his team to be something in the future.

7

u/ar51501998 5d ago

With possibly 5 trucks, I assume the xfinity team is shutting down? That's a lot of new people to hire

11

u/AnalBaguette 5d ago

The other part of the rumor is Kaulig Xfinity gets sold off to Spire, with Dye and Caruth being two of their drivers.

It's possibly why Eckes made those random starts in the 16 truck for BHR recently

7

u/AFrenchNASCARFan 5d ago

Eckes back to Trucks seems logical. Maybe one ride for Kraus and Grala there too.

9

u/Dry-Membership3867 5d ago

Yeah, if they are running as many as 5 trucks next year. I don’t see them doing any xfinity at all

3

u/coffeeshopslut 5d ago

Dinger trying to race a Live Fast/NY racing level shit box is going to lead to some interesting radio

2

u/furrynoy96 5d ago

Looks like I am watching the truck series even more next year

2

u/colbygraves97 5d ago

so I guess they will get 2 of the 4 extra charters in 2027… they are definitely going to xfinity and Cup.

6

u/NatalieDeegan NASCAR 5d ago

They can only have three charters going forward with the new deal so if anything, a one expansion charter would be the max.

1

u/colbygraves97 5d ago

that’s true for everyone unless a new manufacturer entered the way they had described it.

8

u/2xmrk 5d ago

But Kaulig specifically can only have 1 more charter. Teams are capped at 3-car teams.

So if Dodge was gifted 3 charters, only 1 an go to Kaulig.

2

u/NatalieDeegan NASCAR 5d ago

Did not know that. If anything they’re better off finding another new team or two to diversify the teams up instead of putting your eggs in one basket.

2

u/NatalieDeegan NASCAR 5d ago

I hope we get a Ted Musgrave like Mopar truck back again.

2

u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat 5d ago

Provided Stellantis has assured it’s Cup racing soon, Kaulig should just lease its Cup charters and get some cash instead of subjecting yourself to the bottom-three rule.

2

u/Fun-Monitor815 5d ago

Wonder if Josh Williams tries to buy a truck seat lol

4

u/Helpful-Relation7037 Bubba Wallace 5d ago

Dodge my beloved, I finally get to cheer them on

1

u/Schen_The_Genius 5d ago

It's RAM but okay.

1

u/MkeBucksMarkPope Majeski 5d ago

It’s a damn Mopar!

4

u/DigitalPhear13 5d ago

They REALLY aren’t going to get any Chevy support in Cup anymore.

5

u/coffeeshopslut 5d ago

Oh no... What's ECR going to do, give them another motor that explodes in stage 1?

2

u/blackquestion 5d ago

RCR to Dodge in 2027

3

u/ResourceRelative Chastain 5d ago

Adding five teams in a series they’ve never raced in when they’re not doing well in the two series they already race in is wild.

2

u/CTM3399 5d ago

You gotta understand that they will be the Ram factory team which means they are going to get a TON of support from Stellantis, by far more manufacturer support that they have ever gotten on any level.

Obviously they will have work to do in terms of finding good setups and building data and all that. But this is way different than just randomly deciding to start a truck program out of the blue

-2

u/ResourceRelative Chastain 5d ago

Manufacturer support at the truck level is mostly financial, in the form of sponsorship. They don’t build the engines and certainly won’t be building the trucks. Stellantis and Kaulig have never raced in the truck series before. This is absolutely like starting five brand new teams out of the blue.

2

u/CTM3399 5d ago edited 5d ago

Thats the point I'm trying to make is they will have the financial support to be able to actually start a legit team and hire a bunch of people and they won't be stretching themselves thin in terms of personnel and resources.

Obviously they will need to learn the setups and learn how to make the trucks run fast no shit. But imo these are the moves you have to make in order to become a tier 1 partner 🤷‍♂️. Makes sense on the Stellantis end too because Kaulig has existing teams in the other two series which are harder to get into so there is easy entry for them there too.

Also there is a general hate for Kaulig on this sub for some reason so whatever it is what it is. If Trackhouse made this move they would be prasied to high heaven despite their equipment also being mid and all of their success coming from their generationally talented drivers (Chastain, SVG, Zilisch)

0

u/ResourceRelative Chastain 5d ago

You can throw all the money you want at it, it doesn’t mean it’s going to work. Kaulig has not shown that it can scale its operations so everyone is right to be skeptical of them almost doubling in size overnight. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

Trackhouse turned this down as did every other team. It’s well known that Stellantis went to every single team in the garage and Kaulig is the only one to take them up on it.

3

u/CTM3399 5d ago

Sure. But you can't blame them for taking the shot. Either this or stay being 4th prio at Chevy

2

u/crazy4pigs 5d ago

hey look at frm. a team without a ton of resources in cup still has more than enough resources to be competitive in trucks. granted frm initially only opened 1 truck

0

u/ResourceRelative Chastain 5d ago

FRMs truck team started with one truck and it was a DGR Crosley operated truck for Todd Gilliland, whose dad is the DG in DGR. Not quite the same as opening five brand new teams at once.

2

u/AFrenchNASCARFan 5d ago

I wonder what does it mean for their XFinity and Cup teams now that they will TOTALLY lose any kind of support from Chevy.
Will they shrink down to 1 Cup car and 2 XFinity teams as a result?

3

u/Smokeshow618 5d ago

If I had to guess; Sell the Xfinity team to Spire, sell a charter to someone and run 1 cup car, I'd say for AJ. They get a free(?) charter when Dodge comes to cup anyway.

5

u/2xmrk 5d ago

They’re not selling any charters. I could see them leasing a charter each year and run 1 car until Dodge is ready to go cup racing in 2-3 years.

2

u/AFrenchNASCARFan 5d ago

Or maybe keeping Ty to at least get some RCR engines.
Would fuel the "RCR to Dodge in 2027" rumours too if they keep a connection...

3

u/Smokeshow618 5d ago

Its more likely they keep Ty to stay on Campus. RC will sell engines to anyone, and there's no option to build their own.

1

u/ghostlyman789 Chase Elliott 5d ago

What does this mean for the Kaulig Xfinity and Cup teams? Assumedly Chevy will pull any support they’re giving them, if any? This means we’ll see Kaulig bring Dodge to Xfinity and cup right?

1

u/ohnoitsme0 5d ago

Has it ever happened before where one team is running 2 different manufacturers in 2 different series at the same time??

3

u/mwr55fan O'Rilly Auto Parts 5d ago

I know in 2006, Bill Davis ran Toyotas (trucks) and Zombie Dodges (cup) and MWR ran Chevy (Xfinity) and Zombie Dodges (cup).

3

u/Outside_Factor4308 5d ago

Before Dodge returned to Cup, Petty ran Jimmy Hensley in a Dodge truck, and John Andretti in a Pontiac.

1

u/Silence1016 5d ago

5 teams is a lot to start out with

1

u/POV_Morde_Ult 5d ago

Ive been a semi-Kaulig fan for awhile, might be my new truck team since Spire is falling into mediocrity

1

u/One_Mirror_3228 5d ago

This is so weird. I don't understand why they would even bother running in cup and Xfinity. Dinger is going to have a complete mental collapse running in back of the pack dump trucks.

3

u/Outside_Factor4308 5d ago

This is about the future for Kaulig, and AJ knows that. If he wants to leave, he can. But I doubt he will.

1

u/Old_E431 5d ago

It makes perfect sense. Gives Dodge a path to Cup. They need to move on from AJ, he's holding them back.

1

u/Effective-Line6027 Kligerman 5d ago

Connor Jones is screaming at his dad to write him a check

1

u/MKT_Pro 5d ago

Kris Wright, Drew Dollar, Joe Graf Jr., Conner Jones and Thad Moffitt are gonna walk through the door with some big checks.

1

u/destructionfun2 Keselowski 5d ago

Hmmm, I'll have to keep an eye on this now.

1

u/legacy057 5d ago

What are the chances AJ leaves the cup series and runs trucks full time next year to help get them off the ground?

6

u/ChaseTheFalcon 5d ago

Unlikely as they already said he's back in Cup

0

u/AFrenchNASCARFan 5d ago

But he'll have a shitbox to drive with losing any kind of support from Chevey. Wonder what engines they will get...

6

u/KeithMcGeesMoose Enfinger 5d ago

Despite what people on the internet say, AJ has said he prefers to be in Cup. And Kaulig said he'll be back in the 16 next year. Plus, with all the change going on over there, I think keeping Ty and AJ in the 10 and 16 to have some stability is for the best

2

u/CTM3399 5d ago

Negative chance. Maybe he runs some one off road course races but thats it

BREAKING: Kaulig Racing is searching for a new shop after getting kicked off of the RCR campus!

Kaulig owns their shop, RCR can't kick them out.

It’s a joke.

2

u/AFrenchNASCARFan 5d ago

Or keeping Ty to keep engines lol

0

u/TonyHortonFanboy 5d ago

Eh team was pretty adamant a few weeks ago that theyre going with AJ and Ty again in 2026 and the Dodge/Kaulig rumors were around even longer than that so Ty is back for at least next year

0

u/thecryptidmusic 5d ago

Y'all notice the images they posted have the number pushed forward like the cup cars? I'm assuming that's just for the show car and the Kaulig/Ram logo but still

0

u/mrittenhouse84 5d ago

I hope this isnt the future….

0

u/HULKP3 5d ago

So Kaulig will be in all 3 series rip for Kaulig competitiveness in Cup feel bad for AJ and Ty Dillon

-2

u/CaptainRon16 5d ago

So are we going to see them run Chevy noses with no branding in Cup?
