NJT is a miserable way to commute

Every damn day, cancellations, delays and another late arrival in the office.

Boy I can't wait to leave the shit hole that is NJ.

Brutal tax burdens for a declining quality of life yet the sheeple act like there's n9thing wrong.

Fuck NJT

Tickets are way too expensive

Constant delays due to equipment availability, trains cancelled with little to no prior announcements. Yet, ticket prices keep climbing while service is diminishing.

Departure times for nonexistent trains

I’m wondering why the NJ Transit app has departure times that aren’t on the timetables. I wanted to go into the city and saw on the app there was a 10:42 departure from North Elizabeth station, but I got there and no train. There was also an 11:07 departure (on the app, not the timetable) which is gone now, with no train of course, and the next one is at 11:14 (on the timetable and the app)

App and ticketing issues this morning?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Had to get a 10 pack of bus tickets this morning but app kept crashing. I would check out and get this error message. I tried four times with two different cards and was not able to purchase anything. I then looked at my CCs and all four transactions are pending on my cards, but I only got one receipt via email.

And then somehow after four charges and one receipt I still don’t have any tickets generated the my tickets section

Curious if this has happened to anyone else. Going to buy a paper ticket for the ride home.

Monthly student discount

Post image

Okay this is probably a really dumb question but I don’t wanna get yelled at by the conductors but for the monthly student pass is it a round trip thing? Because it only asks me for my origin and destination and not the other way around. I’ve tried looking online and some say it is round trip so I just wanna make sure because I don’t want anything to happen

Best way for an early flight ?

Hi I will be in nyc in two weekends. Will be staying in midtown Manhattan and my flight is at 6am. In the past I have taken the express bus and it was perfect. My flight is from terminal c and when I’m trying to book tickets it says the bus stops at terminal a. What’s the best option? I’m also a female so I’m looking for the safest option at that time

NJCL Evening Commute heads up

Post image
21 Upvotes

Just a note for NJCL riders, the ongoing repairs at the Bridge between Perth and South Amboy (causing delays this morning) that 3267 this evening (5:34 express from Penn) won’t operate. A little late here for the morning train combination announcement.

NJCL Cancellations, slow trains

Not only did a local and two expressed get cancelled, but it took 12 minutes to get from South Amboy to Perth Amboy.

But strangely, the train isn’t packed despite the earlier cancellations.

Why does the tonelle/west side light rail have ghost trains on the mylightrail on the NJT app?

It’s will show lrtains at and departed from the stations as if it exist, but it doesn’t and doesn’t come to the station at all. It will say it departed the station as I was waiting at, as if my eyes deceive me.

Trespasser at Rahway station

Someone was running on the train tracks. The police acted swiftly and arrested her. Expect delays on the trains tho as they had to stop the trains for a bit

NJCL single tracking over the Raritan

Why has the NJCl been single tracking over the Raritan all weekend. Does it have to do with construction of the new bridge? Cuz I haven’t seen them actually doing any work so I’m wondering if there’s another reason for it.

Need help consolidating receipts for my job using the M&E line: Monthly pass or MyTransit wallet?

So I use the M&E and Gladstone lines for work, both eastbound and westbound from the Maplewood station depending on the day.

My company is asking me to find a way to consolidate my monthly receipts, so I’m not buying a ticket everyday. I’m struggling to find a way to do this. I had two ideas:

  1. Buying a monthly pass, ie: Maplewood to Newark Broad Street. This would be a three zone trip, which would make me think I could also use it westbound three zones (ie Maplewood to Summit), but I’m being told here that would not be allowed. I would only be allowed to use it eastbound.

  2. Filling up MyTransitWallet once a month with a pre-set amount, like an MetroCard. But the only way I see to fund it is with cash in person. Am I missing a way to fill it with a credit card?

Any advice on how to do either of these would be appreciated!

Why did the bus drive past me?

Today was my first day of college, I was taking bus 832. My stop is broad st and pickney. I was standing and waving the bus down and the driver looked at me and drove past??? Did I do something wrong?

Do you think the express bus lane should be extended? If so where

I think personally there should be a bus lane from Secaucus to PABT and Newark to PABT as backup to the train measures. Any highway in like a 20 mile radius of nyc i would be down for…

Does anyone have a copy of this audio clip

In one of the multilevel cars I heard this message from the female automated announcer that started with something along the lines of “Welcome aboard the new NJTransit multilevels”…it was too soft so I couldn’t hear all of it. I’m wondering if anyone has a video or recording of that announcement, because it sounds very nice and I’d love to hear what it says

Using monthly train pass further then destination

If I have monthly pass, say from South Orange to Newark Broad St, but occasionally want to use it to go to Hoboken or NY Penn, how would that work?

I would show the conductor my monthly pass, then purchase separate ticket from Newark Broad to Hoboken or NY Penn?

Trouble in Transit (Monthly Pass Questions)

Good morning! So I just got here at the end of last month and had a few train questions. I’ve been using the rails over the last few visits during the apartment hunt/interviewing process, but I still don’t get what the situation is with the monthly passes. If I’m going to Bloomfield, for example, and take the train round trip to Bloomfield every day, but then one day have to go further to Montclair State, am I basically screwed? Do I have to buy a different ticket to do that or do I just keep on riding? Is there any leniency with the monthly pass, or am I pretty much stranded if I find myself in MSU and can only use my monthly pass that’s specifically for two other stations? What would be the best option for someone who’s going to constantly be using different stations? Do I just bite the bullet and stick to something more broad like the 10-trip pass? For fresh eyes it just all seems so convoluted. Thanks in advance…

Google maps, NJT bus schedule, and NJT trip planner all have different times for busses. Which one is the most accurate?

I’ve recently started commuting to the city for school and I’m trying to figure out which method of “tracking” the bus is the best and which schedule is the most accurate.

Texting the stop number to the MyBus app doesn’t always work as I’ve had busses be at the stop in 2 minutes after I checked, even though it wasn’t showing that it would be at the stop the last 10 times I had checked in the past 30 minutes.

Google maps will tell me to hop on one bus and transfer to another, while the NJT bus schedule says I can take a different bus all the way to my destination which has confused me. I’m not sure which one to trust.

The trip planner on NJT doesn’t have accurate times which I’ve learned, but that made sense since I’m assuming it’s more of an estimate and there’s a lot of variability with public transportation.

Also a stop closer to me isn’t listed on the NJT app and I’m not sure how to input that stop into NJT. When I put in the street name nothing shows up.

Finally, when I try and track the bus with the NJT app MyBus, all I get every time is an error message saying that an error has occurred while processing my request. I’ve tried multiple times in an hour, at all points during the day and all I get is that error message. I’ve checked to make sure that my selected bus does in fact travel to the destination I input, so I can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Thank you!

NJT taking over operations of the RiverLine, previously operated by Alstom

This most likely means better and longer service for the RiverLine in the future. Contracted routes (both bus and lightrail) have historically had bad service/maintenance track records.

New college student- need help with monthly pass.

I’m a new college student commuting from Paterson to msu, and I need to take the 704 (2 zones) and then the 705 to campus. Can I use my 704 2 zone monthly pass to get on the 705, or is there any way I can get a pass that covers both of these routes?
