Nanoleaf Reply Never buying from nanoleaf again
Had the original nanoleaf panels since launch, never had anything but problems with the controller and connectivity, the other day it finally killed itself by setting on fire rather dramatically ... Created a ticket and nothing... Great company, 10/10

All my Nano leaf essentials bulbs gave up after a year, not really acceptable for the price. Moved to Ikea bulbs now, see how they fare.

u/bilkel May 05 '25
No they didn’t die. I thought so too but I watched some video on YouTube of a guy power cycling the bulb a bunch of times and it was still good. I’ll take yr old ones if you still got em

my bulb gave up after 2 months lol

u/Johnnybw2 May 04 '25
Sounds about right, that are really not well made, I’ve got some old Tp-link WiFi bulbs that are over 5 years old and still going.

the thing is my nanoleaf lightstrip i bought back in covid (2020) still works perfectly till this date.

I've got mines for... 7 years now. Moved more than 6 times and I use them every day as I wfh. Never had an issue... Maybe I'm lucky.

u/bws2a May 05 '25
It seems they might have started out well and then sourced their manufacturing to someplace awful.

u/twiceloverkundu May 04 '25
I faced similar issue…the controller of my hexagon shapes died and i had to order replacement from nanoleaf. I made the payment and they confirmed the order but its been 2 weeks and no update

u/SevenExpressions May 04 '25
Even the OG panels are suicidal smh this company used to be good until they sent unnecessary software updates that kill their products
3
u/SmartLightDimwit May 04 '25
“Had since launch”…So your panels are 9 years old?
1
u/Gamer129389182 May 05 '25
Yes, they are 9 years old 😭, but still worked up until now ... Got a replacement, I understand them shutting down or something but there were literal flames

Every Nanoleaf device I own has experienced multiple controller failures. Initially Nanoleaf customer support made me exhaustively document the failures with photographs and videos before sending me replacements, but the last couple of times they just sent me replacements as soon as I created a support ticket.

Hi u/Gamer129389182,
We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience. This is absolutely not the level of quality or support we aim for. Safety is our top priority, and we take reports like this extremely seriously.
I can confirm that our team reached out via email. Please check your inbox, including spam/junk folders. Our support hours shifted to Monday–Friday, which may have caused delays, and we’re actively working to improve response times.
We appreciate your patience and will make this right. Thank you for holding us accountable. We’re committed to doing better.

What about the rest of us who lodged support tickets and are now not had any replies or contact for about 2 weeks now?

u/aeistrya May 04 '25
Their support has been awful. I also have been in contact for a replacement controller and it's been like pulling teeth trying to get information out of them. One of the support team literally told me that I needed a new controller (which I would need to pay for) and then said he was closing the ticket. They would apparently reopen it if I wanted to purchase it. Like I have another option???

Try warranty, and then select panels are dim / white.
I did this with 4 controllers that were passed 2 years and got replacements for free. They ask for DoP now but I dont think they require proof. Best of luck! ☹️

u/aeistrya May 04 '25
Thank you kind sir/ma'am. I wish I knew this earlier. I'll hound them next week since I know their support no longer work weekends (which is understandable tbh at least)

u/Sahalio May 06 '25
Such a cheap company tbh, I got my power thing replaced and it still broke! They said it’s a manufacturing defect and it broke again. I contacted again and they said my warranty is over…. Even though they agreed it’s a manufacturing defect. Never recommending them since.

also fighting with mine, it is REALLY hot, and dark spots on "certain" areas, of the controller, which bodes to either a short, or some part really getting to much power pushed through it...
Nano is responding with "hey it is just UV from the sun" (YEP GOT IT) and it is of course safe....
It is in my kids room, and it is hotter turned off but in power, than on the lights, they offerede me a new controller to 60+ dollars, but i can buy a cheaper working brand for much less, He has a LOT of Nanoleaf, but this was also the kicker from me..
Love their products, but this has just made me not at all trust them. it does not seem to be designed on a safety first focus, especially when you see that it is "normal" issues.

u/Zoomalia May 04 '25
It's the same quality as the ones from Temu, you're getting scammed buying naoleafs.

u/Nifferothix May 04 '25
I like nanoleaf but sadly the first panels i bought also has this orange colour in the middel of the controller.
It dosent feel hot tho, but its NOT from the sun since they are placed on a wall that never has sunlight.
I had em since release and they still work. The problem with these controllers is the panels are flickering/blinking with a very dim light even when they are not turned ON but still powered. So they are constant getting some sort of power jigs thru em like hicsups.
Some day i need to replace em with the shapes and i have like 17 panels...its gona be expensive to replace these.

Yes the exact same spot but urs looks twice as worse like mine.
Im not sure if its a good thing to do, but perhaps get some plastic paint and cover it ?
If you make ur room all dark then you can see they are blinking with a fainth dim light.
At this point i would look up for a spare controller on ebay.
1
u/dontdrop_that May 04 '25
I’ve never seen blinking but I have had these panels for 5 years, I assume heat over time has discolored the plastic, I’ve had zero issues aside from this
1
u/Nifferothix May 04 '25
Its very fainth and ur room must be dark. Some people cant see it and others can. Since not two same people have the same sight.

u/hamo78 May 04 '25
They have the WORST products period.
3
u/TygerWithAWhy May 04 '25
that’s simply not true
there are legit scam products
i’ve had a number of lines and shapes for years with few problems

u/Imspacelyy May 04 '25
Holy 😱! Had to repair my 4 shape controllers, they stopped responding / 2 deleted out of no where one day. And I had to take a good hour deleting them from my phone, apple home, and then repairing each one by factory reset. Then 2 were giving me issues while pairing, its been a pain. Honestly, I think it has to do with me on 5ghz wifi as thread likes 2.4 instead and my router from ip doesn’t let me establish a different access point. Nanoleaf was great when it was glitch free, I have well over 50 panels so I’m in too deep, but anyone else? Try govee, everyone was so sketched out about them before, but their climb has been smooth as far as I can see. Sorry for my rant, Sorry this happened op, warranty controller…but even that takes 2/3 weeks of shipping 😩 best of luck

I have had 3 Aurora panel controllers die and now I can’t get a replacement without paying extortion prices on eBay. So screw that. Nanoleaf lines dies 2 weeks. 4D dies 3 months and other juts died and trying to get warranty sorted but the support channel seems to have gone dark. Also a failed SecretLab MAGRGB. Chasing warranty on that. Bulbs have been hit and miss. Had one die but rest so far have been ok. The products are great and are well designed and amazing what they offer but robustness of controllers are terrible. I would have said my Lifx gear was worse but of late Nanoleaf are holding tops spot now. Whilst my home full of Philips products has only had 1 die in 7 years. 🤷♂️

I have 10 separate Nanoleaf installations spanning their product line. Out of all of them, over almost 10 years, I’ve had to replace my Canvas Control Square three times, and my Elements controller once. All replacements were covered by warranty. My 21 panel Aurora Light Panel installation is still using its original controller & my lights are usually on 24/7. All in all, I’d say not too shabby.
1
u/pinni74 May 08 '25
That’s great. Some of my stuff from them has been bulletproof some has been a mixed bag I have Aurora panels for days and I had to abandon half coz 1 controller died and couldn’t replace it and now the second is cooked so I have a pile of panels. 😳
1
u/SmartLightDimwit May 08 '25
If you are willing to pay a premium, you can probably still acquire another Aurora controller via eBay. Otherwise, you could sell your Aurora panels for a reasonable price and upgrade to shapes…
1
u/pinni74 May 09 '25
Yeah there are controllers for like $120 but given ie had 3 fail I feel like it’s gonna happen again and I may as well go for another product be it shapes or another brand

u/FeuFeuAngel May 05 '25
would bet old models are affected, i mean triangle are old and people here post the non touch controller

I took all my Nanoleaf to recycling. I wouldn’t even pawn it off on someone else, not even for free. So much wasted time troubleshooting.
