Nanoleaf Reply Nanoleaf sucks bro

Never in my life have I spent so much money, multiple times on shit that absolutely never works. How is it even possible for the app to work so fucking terribly. Thread never works, Bluetooth never works and my panels, down lights and light bulbs decide to go off line every 10 minutes. Nanoleaf make some cool stuff but holy fuck the execution is awful.

Nanoleaf Reply How normal is this to happen after 2 years?

It started off couple of weeks ago when left side of the leaf titled a bit due to poor adhesives. I live in a rather hot climate and AC is turned on for 16-18 hours of the day. There is no signs of walls being damped due to water inlets behind it.

Nanoleaf Reply Nanoleaf is the single worst smart tech I’ve ever encountered

Sorry. Just need to vent.

A few months ago I bought their tv sync. It never worked. Not once. At any level. It didn’t connect to HomeKit. It never even came close to connecting to WiFi or the app. I returned it.

Against better judgement I bought the Nanoleaf elements. Using the exact instructions I placed them on my wall with the provided 3m tape. It crashed down 4 separate times before I finally just drilled into the wall which I didn’t want to do.

Attempting to actually make this a smart device was the exact same failure as the sync box. Forget HomeKit or WiFi. It can’t even connect to its own fucking app by QR code or manually entry.

So, after the holes in my wall I’m basically stuck with a defacto “dumb light” on my wall. Which is fine, but obviously not what I bought.

Is this just me? I feel like smart tech in general under delivers but I’ve never had an experience like I have with Nanoleaf.

My god.

Had the original nanoleaf panels since launch, never had anything but problems with the controller and connectivity, the other day it finally killed itself by setting on fire rather dramatically ... Created a ticket and nothing... Great company, 10/10

Nanoleaf Reply Another customer to tell you this: don't buy Nanoleaf

Horrible customer service.

One of the bulbs is faulty, and they keep me in a loop with no replacement. They make you spend hours until you give up.

Nanoleaf does not replace faulty products under warranty.

Stay away!

Nanoleaf Reply Do NOT purchase Nanoleaf products unless you enjoy rebuilding your entire setup

Tonight we had a brief powercut.

Once our power was restored around 3/4 of our Nanoleaf lights were trashed - stuck 'updating' forever.

This is the SECOND time this has happened.

I've had to reset every single bulb manually.

All our scenes are destroyed.

I can't even be bothered to build new scenes (for the third time) because I know it will happen again.

Nanoleaf products are fundamentally unstable.

I highly recommend you do not purchase any Nanoleaf products.

They've cost me many hundreds of dollars in wasted time.

I'm a marketing consultant for technology startups and have around 50k Instagram followers and 7K twitter followers - mainly tech founders.

I will tell them all never to purchase Nanoleaf products.

I think this company has had long enough to sort their problems out.

They clearly have no intention of fixing anything.

I'm also going to email Apple's marketing department and suggest these products are removed from their online store - as they're simply not fit for purpose.

Nanoleaf Reply Nanoleaf has been awesome with customer service and returns

Everyone talks about how bad the customer service is. My desktop pegboard stopped working they are sending me a new one and are paying for the shipping for the return pegboard. Everyone always talks bad about this company but my experience is different. They have been understanding and helpful. I am impressed. I hope they continue to care about their customers and I see Nanoleaf turning over a new leaf in 2025!

Yes I am a real customer.

Nanoleaf Reply Is support really this useless?

Had issues with my Nanoleaf 4D, contacted them with a ticket and explained everything I’ve tried (being literally all of it, device side, network side, software side)

They then read my ticket (not hard enough clearly) and their ‘fix’ is telling me to reset it. If they’d used their eyes (usually we’re born with 2 so there’s two chances!!) they would have seen that I’d advised I have reset it more than 30 times as this point.

Further more to that - they LOOOOVE leaving your messages on seen. What an absolute useless excuse for a company.

Out of 24 Nanoleaf Essentials A19 bulbs, I’m now up to 3 that won’t even hard reset. 2 of those are matter bulbs, one is pre-matter. I decided to see whether it was a hardware issue. Surprisingly, none of these components appear to have let the magic smoke out.

Nanoleaf Reply When did nanoleaf become so bad?

i used to hear great things about nanoleaf years ago and finally got the money to buy the shapes and lines. When i got my product it wouldnt connect to my phone. I was talking to support for over two hours non stop. They said they will send a replacement controller. its still not arrived or even been shipped!

Getting so mad at this company as now they wont reply to support messages for 8 days. The app is the worst app i have seen, it just doesnt work. The product was already broken when i got it. I paid so much money and its honestly frustrating because its so expensive and is so bad. I tried to get a refund but they wont let me. They said they will just keep sending me parts. Which they ovs dont even send

Is anyone else having issues with nanoleaf or just me? And is there a quicker way to get support to reply. As i contact during opening hours and they tell me they are offline?

Nanoleaf Reply Nanoleaf Canvas Love

I love my Nanoleaf canvas. I used it mainly for a work background on Teams. I’ve used Nanoleaf products since 2013, these device can’t go EOL. The canvas controllers are still an issue and I would need controllers to keep this going. The latest firmware is better. But Nanoleaf supports still don’t want to help with the power management issues I’m having.

After work I used it for music and the arcade side of the office. I’ve been working on this room since 2019. A bunch of money put in. Saving to buy canvas just to have them go EOL. Let alone they don’t let me configure the cube controller on the Nanoleaf app.

Nanoleaf Reply 200 Thread Bulbs Going in the Garbage

Post image
49 Upvotes

I have approx 25k sqft of commercial office space and with 100+ lamps that need to be automated. Each lamp has two sockets, so we’re talking 200+ nanoleaf bulbs here.

I had great personal experience with the Thread HomeKit bulbs (and also to some limited use with the A19 matter/thread bulb) so I was certain I could use the A19 Thread/Matter bulb in a larger setting to deliver my need. Thread 1.4 is known to scale to thousands of devices, so this should be great right? Boy was I wrong.

My network has been commissioned for nearly three months now, and you can see, it’s still a complete clusterfuck of uptime. My HomeAssistant is continuously tracking how many devices are offline, I have attached the 36h and 45m plots in this post. It’s a roller coaster. The network also goes completely dark every 6 hours ON THE DOT which I find amusing and mysterious.

With no single NL bulb is more than 5 feet from the next REED (router eligible end device), and no more than 30 feet to the nearest border router, there really is no practical reason why this continues to be an unexplained rollercoaster of uptime.

95% of my ~200 NL essentials are v3.6.196, while a few are on 4.1.3.

My network:

  • Netgear AV-line switching 100g backbone (extremely good at multicasting and currently supports over 20gbps of Crestron NVX multicasting over a complex tree). Don’t tell me my network is the problem, it is not.

  • Primary matter controller: Nabu Casa HomeAssistant Matter Server 7.0.0 (Matter spec 1.4)

  • Secondary matter controller: Apple HomeKit (matter spec 1.4)

  • Border routers:

    • 6x OpenThread Border Router via Nabu Casa SkyConnect USB dongle
    • 4x Apple Thread Border Router via Apple TV over Ethernet

Over the last month we began adding approx 100 Sunricher commercial lighting modules to the Thread network and saw a significant improvement in the severity of those “downtime spikes” you see in the plot. The line got much more flat and stable, and the unexplained spikes were far less frequent, but far from gone.

In addition to the great performance of our Sunricher Thread modules, we’ve also seen excellent uptime of our eve shades/plugs, as well Inovelli switches (SEDs and REEDs alike).

The nanoleaf REEDs, however, go online and offline without any rhyme or reason, and often take down the devices they’re routing as well. Completely unacceptable.

Things stabilize slightly if you NEVER control the A19 lights, which is absolutely unreasonable and defeats the time and expense of doing any of this. Huge waste.

JUST TODAY: I commissioned 6 of the new Aquara T2 bulbs out of place, and installed them in their correct locations after commissioning. Not only did they come online very quickly after install (again, commissioned in the wrong place), they STAYED ONLINE and never dropped out ONCE. NOT ONCE. The T2 bulbs are instant to respond, where the nanoleafs are VERY prone to fall offline when toggled.

There is absolutely zero doubt in my mind, if you have a home automation need:

  • Is Thread/Matter up for the task? YES (assuming you get the multicasting correct and are comfortable with IPv6, which is nontrivial if you network isn’t flat)
  • Is Nanoleaf up to the task? Absolutely not. If you’re reaching for the Nanoleaf Thread products in a context where you want things to work half the time you need them, you need to look elsewhere.

I hope this can be a warning to all the builders and automators embarking on new projects, please don’t make the same mistake I made.

Build ambitiously, but only do so if it can be done WITHOUT nanoleaf products on your thread network. It’s the only way you’ll ever get a taste of a truly reliable system.

Nanoleaf Reply Help needed. Trying to pair my 2017/18 panels but don’t have the original box, QR code, and doesn’t have the wifi symbol. What do I do? Am I going to have to get new ones because it unpaired itself? Wow…

Bluetooth isn’t working. Nothing is working to set it up. Great marketing by Nanoelaf to unpair my lights so I have to get new ones :/ Of course I don’t still have the code from 2017/18.

Nanoleaf Reply I'm officially done with Nanoleaf.

I always try to give companies the benefit of the doubt, but Nanoleaf has serious quality control and customer support issues. I installed their Outdoor String Lights last fall—a time-consuming setup involving a support cable over my deck. After just 30 days, the last six lights stopped working. What followed was a frustrating support experience: long delays, repeated questions, and no resolution. Eventually, I gave up and bought a second set, took the original down, and installed the new one. The same issue—within a month, the lights failed in the exact same way.

I didn’t want to write this, but I feel like I have to: buyer beware when it comes to Nanoleaf products.

Nanoleaf Reply Nanoleaf multicolour outdoor string lights won't turn on

I bought two sets of these in November. The weather is now nice enough, so I went and set them up today however, when I power them on nothing happens. Tried power cycling and also the reset of holding the power switched down for 10 seconds and still nothing. Confirmed all outlets have power. Not sure what to do. Any ideas?

Nanoleaf Reply Power Cut Possibly Killed Processor?

Post image
3 Upvotes

We had a power cut yesterday and ever since then the Nanoleafs won’t pair up, I thought I’d remove them from the app and re-add. But whenever I plug them in, the panels go white and nothing more. Can’t turn gthem off unless I unplug for the power. Can’t pair them, app said to hold down power and + did that. Lights flash for a bit then go off. Panels remain on and white. But still refuses to pair. Tried QR code. NFC chip and the 8 digit code. Nothing works. You guys have any ideas? Or is my processor dead?

Nanoleaf Reply Anyone else having a horrible time with the app? Its seems like everything is broken.

Having a hard time with the app and it seems like even the most basic stuff doesn’t work.

  1. Devices keep asking me to set them up when they’ve already been paired
  2. Scenes don’t save about half the time
  3. Circadian scenes refuse to save to group scenes
  4. Devices keep falling back to Bluetooth instead of thread

HomeKit doesn’t have any connectivity issues so I don’t think it’s my thread setup, I have good WiFi and lots of boarder routers.

Nanoleaf Reply Firmware Update

Thumbnail

I have a number of NL67 bulbs, all the same hardware version (4.0.8). They were all set up in the Nanoleaf app, then added to connected via Matter to HomeKit. For some reason, I was able to update about half of the bulbs to firmware 4.1.3 in the Nanoleaf app, but the other half could only be updated to 3.6.196. I waiting 24 hours to see if they just needed to figure themselves out, power cycled them, and even reset and re-added them to my home, with no luck. From a search on this subreddit, it looks like it’s impossible to force a firmware update, but does anybody know why I’m running into this issue or have any recommendations for how I can update everything to the latest? Thanks!

Nanoleaf Reply A19 firmware update

So I updated my A19 matter over thread bulbs ages ago to 4.1.0. Since then, haven’t seen 4.1.3 for any of them. Pulled an extra bulb out of a drawer yesterday that was still ok 3.x, and that updated to 4.1.3 no problem.

So you can go from 3.x to 4.1.3, but you can’t go from 4.1.0 to 4.1.3? I was trying to give Nanoleaf the benefit of the doubt but something weird is going on.

Tom, any chance you could shed some light on what’s going on? Did something get botched in the 4.1.0 to 4.1.3 update path and will I be able to update my 4.1.0 bulbs when the next firmware is released?
