I need a new charcoal suit for work, considering this J Press suit:

There’s not a ton of info listed, does anyone know more or own one from this line? At $373 post-discount, I’m not sweating the details that much, but I am interested in the construction/ fit/ value.

Here is an old photo of me from a few weeks ago in a classic navy blazer from them. The size is 40R, and I’m around 5’9. I’m also a little more heavy-set in this old photo. They tend to do more traditional Ivy-style cuts for their clothing. Hopefully, this gives you a rough idea of how their clothes fit and look.

looks like a great buy! i have two of their sport coats (also classic 3/2 roll, swell edged, etc.). i love them both, great fit, no quality issues; purchased within the last five years.

EDIT/ADD: made in Canada

Thoughts on corduroy pants for fall and winter, and which colors work best?

Of cotton trousers, corduroy drapes the best imo. For some reason most places taper their cords an unreasonable amount and include spandex or polyester. This actually makes them harder to find new than other trousers.

The best colour is dark brown, followed by dark olive greens. Tan is arguably as useful but they just end up looking like seasonal chinos. Jewel tones come across as extremely dandy to my eye, so if you’re asking about colour they’re probably not for you. Pleats are better than flat front (no you don’t need to put creases in pleated cotton pants).

my tan, grey, and cream widewale cords are a versatile staple with my tweed jackets and shetland wool sweaters. I also have pairs of moleskins i like (a trouser and a five pocket).

Get every colour of the rainbow. I have red, brown, blue, green. Brown is my most worn.

I had a question on bean boot sizing. I’m looking at getting the rubber mocs but am not sure what the appropriate size would be. I generally am a 10 in tennis shoes and a 9 in loafers. Any help would be appreciated!

I needed a full size down from what I wear for sneakers

I think this is the generally accepted rule of sizing with Bean Boots.

This being said, my boots are same size as what I usually wear. I didn’t size down. I don’t think they are too big or anything, they just fit a bit more loose like a rubber boot should. Easy to put on and take off, space for thicker socks when it’s cold but still not too big.

I think realistically, I could have sized down half a size, but going down full size could make my toes touch the tip. Maybe. Then I guess they would fit more like regular boots which imo isn’t the point of duck boots.

John Smedley has an outlet, great value for the price. If you like fine merino wool kind of stuff.

Thinking about ordering a shirt from Mercer and Son soon. Anyone with happy with their very traditional fit or do most custom size down the body for a smaller shirt?

They cut their shirts like that for a reason, embrace the billow, it's part of the look.
