Inspo My Holiday Lookbook

December is probably my favourite time to get dressed. It’s generally cold here so all the layers are an option, but I’m not tired of all my winter clothes yet and you can embrace the festivity of the season. I have been trying to embrace more color, and here that meant a little bit of red in pretty much every outfit. There still might be time for another look with the holiday ties, but I figured now is the time to share this!

Inspo Wearing More Ties

Since I reconnected with online fashion communities last year, I have been gravitating towards wearing jackets and ties more often than I ever have before. However, as a junior high teacher where the outfits are usually very casual, I don’t want to overdo it.

These outfits are the last 13 times that I wore a tie to school and they cover roughly the last year. My main goal to avoid getting too fussy by keeping at least a few components of the outfit casual and generally having fun with it.

Inspo Vintage, Made in the USA, LL Bean Shirts

I’ve recently been buying these vintage LL Bean shirts on eBay, I’m in the UK and have paid about £15 ($19) each on average for them. They’re all very full cut which I like. The two oxfords are more summer weight, especially the blue which is a cotton/poly blend. Generous 3.25” collar points that result in a nice roll. The yellow is a colour I wouldn’t generally wear but it’s now probably my favourite OCBD I own, the colour really pops under a Barbour.

Inspo Question on OCBDs: Is this true?

Post image

Can my American friends please clarify the following for me? For context, I grew up mostly in England, where the spread collar is rather popular, and considered one of the staples of British/European style. I’m aware there might be cultural differences of course - but I assumed the button down was for leisure, not work unless you were 80.

I have friends who live in Scarsdale, and all of us and our parents (we’re in our late 20s) dress in button downs for leisure

Inspo Week At The Beach!

Hey everyone,

Thought I’d share a little about what I decided to take wear on the beach!

Obviously very warm weather influenced as it’s near 90 most of the days down here.

Shirts: I decided to go colourful although I forgot my white oxford in the rush out the door… have a white polo I’m currently wearing as a substitute!

  • BB patchwork madras shortsleeve
  • BB madras shortsleeve
  • PRL fun shirt OCBD
  • White BB “vintage” polo shirt - one of my favorites.

Pants and shorts:

Obviously had to do madras pants but also brought a pair of shorts I didn’t picture! Then a couple pairs of Ralph Lauren shorts that I quite like the fit of. Swim shorts obviously!

Shoes:

Just some navy blue sperries and then the Weejuns pictured for going out to dinner.

Hope you all enjoy your summers!

Best, Max

Hello everyone,

I thought you guys would all enjoy having a look over my shoe collection, after all shoes are the most important part of an outfit - besides pants.

Now I’ve got about 14 pairs of shoes here but that isn’t my complete collection just ones I deem as “nice” ones for super casual/running I left out.

From top left to bottom right I have:

Espadrilles I got on vacation

Etonic golf shoes

Sperries one gold cup and one lower model

Navy Bugatti dress shoes - my first pair of nice shoes

Thursday captains in brandy

Alfred Sargent for Brooks Bros. Suede oxfords

Allen Edmonds Lake Shore Dr with a nice red sole

Vintage bass weejuns MiUSA in an 11B - narrow widths make these shoes amazing

1973 Florsheim Imperial gunboats

Allen Edmonds Clifton

Brooks Bros. Split toe pebble grain derby

Alden 563 shell cordovan tassel loafers in a patinaed colour 8

Allen Edmonds Chester’s in a black wingtip.

I plan to expand my collection over the coming years so if you guys have any questions, comments or recommendations please feel free to let me know!

Hope you have a great day, Max

I guess I’ll put this as inspo, quite a few of my outfits to have a look over!

Over the past couple weeks I’ve been on vacation giving me time to soak up the warm sun and put on some great summer outfits!

On vacation I’ve visited Ben Silver and Brooks Brothers both wonderful stores and I got some great clothes from them! The lobster shirt may be less of our style but I thought it was too fun to pass up, especially for $66 on sale.

Feel free to comment any critiques or questions!

Have a wonderful 4th of July, Max

Inspo Best Blazer up to $1200?

I just realized my current blazer is almost 20 years old and the fit/look is more out of date than I think my tailor can rescue. What recommendations do you have of a classic navy blazer, with an upper price limit around $1200? I can go slim-ish (Sid Mashburn) but I’m not skinny. Ralph Lauren Polo “Iconic” blazer looks good? I also have several MTM suits from Enzo Custom, so maybe that’s the route?

I found the Official Preppy Handbook in perfect condition on my grandfather’s shelf. He was a professor from the 60’s through the 80’s, so I’m sure he made good use of it.

Recently visited Keezers in MA and it truly was a thrifters dream. Definitely a stop you should make if you are visiting the area. Wide range of sizes and brands. I will say, parking was not great lol but you can work around it! I posted more pictures on my instagram if anyone is interested: newtradclub

Been looking a very specific kind of white button down shirt.

Needs to be: • Not see through • 100% cotton • Button Down collar • Vintage • Boxy/loose fitting

EMPHASIS ON NO SEE THROUGH!

Any recommendations?

Came across one of their shirts at the thrift and was astounded. Perhaps the most prominent S-shaped roll I've seen on a shirt.

In light of the Brooks Brothers catalogue that was posted not long ago here are a few scans from the Barbour catalogue for 1994 that I found online. I don't have the original so unfortunately I can't fill in the gaps. I hope you enjoy it!

Lapel fading, as well as some repairs by the functional cuffs. Some cool details on this jacket too, like the welted stitch on the lapel
