what is your fav, why? do you like the others?

I’ve just gotten to the halfway point of the series (ep 13) and I’m considering whether to continue watching.

I’ve become so engrossed with the series so far that it’s almost becoming an obsession but I don’t want to continue watching if the characters I’ve become attached to will just end up suffering as people tell me that the series just becomes more depressing

Has this thought occurred to anyone else and if so, do you recommend that I just stop watching so that eventually I can forget all about it rather than finish the series feeling empty and melancholy?

I initially finished the end of NGE, and thought that there were just the 26 episodes and was super confused. I was then notified that there was a lot more content out there, so I watched End of Evangelion to follow up. My follow up questions/thoughts:

1. It sounds like SEELE and NERV both had the same idea? Setting off the Third Impact to begin the instrumentality project? If that's the case, why did the need to fight about it? Other than the obvious "we need SOMETHING to happen in this movie, and Evas fighting each other are cool".

2. If Eva 02 and 01 have the souls of their pilots mothers, what soul is within Eva 00?

3. Did Gendo Ikari just fuck everything that moved?? Shinji's mom, Ritsuki's mom, Ritsuki too??? No wonder Shinji hates him.

4. What concept are we to take away from the ending? The instrumentality project has essentially happened, but Shinji, Asuka, and Rei are still alive? And then Shinji tries to kill Asuka, and she calls him pathetic, and then we're out? WTF?

5. If the angels touched Adam, it would ALSO set off the Third Impact, correct? If that was the end goal, then why bother trying to stop them at all?

6. If there was a second and third impact, why do we have no information on the first impact? Or is it implied that the first impact is what created humans?

I’m not sure if I’m missing anything, but the last episode was just a big fever dream? I have SEVERAL questions. 1. Is the instrumentality project like the NGE matrix? 2. What is assumed to happen after the last episode? If 1 is correct, does everyone just get assimilated into some sort of godhood/heaven? 3. If Eva 01 has Shinji’s mom’s spirit/will, wtf is inside 00 and 02, and 03-08? 4. Is Rei some attempt at a rebirthed Yui via Adam? 5. What was Adam? 6. Am I reading too much into an anime that’s over 20 years old? 7. Is there some YouTuber out there who makes a solid video explaining ALL OF THIS?
