Troubleshooting 3rd gen fell on ground blank screen

Thermostat fell on ground. No display, Doesnt show on Wi-Fi, no blinking lights when on wall. If I connect usb charger then blinks red.

What are the chances maybe the battery is just disconnected from the fall?

UPDATE: I took another nest 3rd gen and it worked in the brokens install location. The old thermostat does not work in the others install location.

I opened up the thermostat pressed down on all the connections including the battery and reassembled. It still doesn't power on when installed on the wall base, but when using usb it blinks green and i saw the start up screen appear, but now it is humming.

Thermostat Thermostat issue?

I've recently had a problem with the AC intermittently not turning on the outside unit, just the inside fan. If I turn off or set the temp to higher than the current temp and then turn it back on, everything works fine. It only does this once every couple of days. Had an AC guy out here change a contactor but that didn't help. Is this a nest software issue perhaps? It's been installed since 2022.

New temperature differential and minimum compressor run time settings

Just saw that these settings were added to the advanced settings of Nest on Google home. Has anyone tried these out yet? It's open window weather right now here so I'm going to test it for myself probably next week.

Did I mess something up?

I set up our Nest Gen 3 yesterday and the AC worked fine for hours no issues. Today the system now loses power, makes clicking noises before it turns on again and repeats. I was messing around with settings and put it in heat and cool mode before going to bed last night which didn't work as intended. Then we had to turn off eco mode today cuz it wasn't turning on manually either.

Looking back at my work it looks like I put the Heat wire in the wrong place but it didn't give me issues yesterday. I wasn't sure about it due to the labeling in the old thermostat. After doing some research, it seems like the Nest just isn't getting enough power anymore. I noticed we also have a blue wire that wasn't used with the old thermostat that is still tucked in the wall and it seems to be a C-Wire. I looked at the furnace circuit board and I do see a blue and white wire connected to C.

I wanted to see if anyone might know what the problem might be before I try anything and plug in wires that weren't being used with the old thermostat.

Camera Dropcam Scrubbing

How do I get Google Home to show the timeline scrubbing for all my older Nest dropcams like it does for the newer Google Nest cam in its floodlight? The old Nest app has all this so not sure why I’m having trouble in Google Home. Am I missing something?

Pic 1 is old thermostat, pic 2 is the Nest 4th Gen.

I don't know much about HVAC, and I see conflicting information wherever I look.

I think it's: G -> G C -> C R -> Rh/Rc jumped W1 -> W1 Y -> Y1/Y2 jumped W2 -> W2 O -> OB

There are no jumpers on the old thermostat.

Most articles say no need to use a jumper on the Nest I know, but I'm not sure here.

Trying again because my pics are not attaching. Non-learning basic Nest. Single stage heat pump with only electric heat. Can't find a corresponding diagram.

how to set up account on existing device

I recently moved into a home where the previous owners installed a nest. It seems to still be paired to their account.

Anyway to get the device switched to a new account?

Nest causing premature HVAC equipment failures?

Basically the title. Got my parents a nest 3rd gen (before the 4th Gen came out a few years ago), they have a central HVAC system with a heat pump and emergency resistance heating in the air handler. Within a few months, the fan in the air handler went out. They call in a repair guy, he asks if the nest is new or if it was installed with the system. They tell him, and his response is "oh, yeah, we see a lot of nests burn out people's fans right after install." They had just had that entire system put in about 5 years prior. Fast forward a couple years, and the compressor in the heat pump dies. They have the compressor replaced, and two years later, it dies again. I'm about ready to set up a camera on their heat pump outside to see if it's cycling or just running the thing constantly (and therefore killing it). Anyone else have similar experiences? Do the nest thermostats need to be programmed to cycle the compressor so that it doesn't burn out?

What are we thinking here? Just installed, 3.76V battery, bought “new” off facebook. Bad wire? Hardware failure?

How to make nest thermostat turn off fan when AC turns off?

I set my nest thermostat cool to a certain temperature with the AC. When it hits the temperature, the AC turns off, but the fan keeps running. How can I make it so the fan shuts off as well?

Edit: here is a link to the wiring

Are the Place - Any Space alarms “plug and play” replacements for the Nest Protect?

We’ve been in our home 8 years, but all my Nest Protects are expiring…thought I had 2 more years!

The Place smoke/co detectors look like a decent replacement. My question is - are they an easy install as a replacement? Hoping they are “plug and play” connection so with no rewiring required.

Google recommended wiring issue

Trying to install third Gen Nest thermostat. I contacted Google after the app said my existing wiring needs their assistance. After following their instructions, I turned on my ac/furnace and it turned on, then immediately turned off. It did this a couple more times before I was able to get to my panel to shut down my furnace and prevent any damage. Pictured is my existing wiring, as well as the instructions from Google on how to wire the nest.

I have oil heat, forced air, with one AC condenser. Upstairs is controlled by slave thermostat (currently nest 3rd gen as well). This attempt to install was on my first floor thermostat.

Any idea if I can hook up a nest or am I stuck?

Heat Coming on in Cool Mode

Post image
0 Upvotes

I just got a Nest thermostat installed this week. My electrician put it in. In the app, I have it set to Cool mode, and that’s what it says on the unit as well. But I’m noticing that since it was set up, it’s also sending a signal to my boiler to turn on and send heat to the radiators. My electrician insists there’s nothing with the wiring that should cause this, but obviously this shouldn’t be happening. When I set my comfort and sleep temperature programs, there is a “Heat To” field, but I set it super low in the 50s so it wouldn’t activate the boiler, which shouldn’t be happening anyway in Cool mode. Want to know if anyone has had this issue before and might help resolve it without me needing to talk to the electrician again.

I have a boiler/radiator system, here is a picture of the wire configuration. Can someone let me know if maybe it’s wired in a way that the system thinks I have a heat pump or something?

Camera Nest Hub Max Camera Live Feed Blank

Since 3 weeks I am seeing blank live feed in google home app, google home website and device's screen. I have performed all troubleshooting steps such as restarting, factory reset, keeping it unplugged for 24 hours, removing from home, changing google account but none worked. I tried video call but it also shows blank screen. Microphone totally works fine.

Talked to google support and they said "Since you’ve already gone through all the troubleshooting steps and the issue persists, the next option would typically be a replacement. However, I’m sorry to inform you that the device is out of warranty, and as per Google’s limited warranty policy, we’re unable to offer a replacement at this time."

Can anyone please share a solution? I think the problem would be with automatic firmware upgrade because suddenly live feed stopped working and I don't see a way to downgrade firmware. I also see one or two vertical strips intermittently.

Price increase on Nest Aware

I am annoyed at the arbitrary price increases leveraged by Google. This probably has no impact, but in case it might, here is a form for filing a Complaint: https://google.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2aStd8wsbcLGvwG

Is it wise to buy Nest Floodlight/any Nest camera in 2025?

Moved into a new place with existing nest cams (and another security system) but have a glaring blank spot and need a light for the yard. Considering getting the nest cam as i’ve already got the doorbell and a few existing cameras but I see this thing was released in 2021. Are google just not updating these? are they discounted?

Is it a smart purchase?

Cheers!

Nest Thermostats Appear Differently in Google Home

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Is there a particular reason why two of my five thermostats look different in Google Home than two others (the fifth needs to be reinstalled, so I don’t know what that looks like at the moment), or is it due to incorrect installation in the app? They are all the same version, nearly identically aged, and all appear the same in the Nest app.

Nest Thermostat no power when C wire connected

Hi,

I have a Nest learning thermostat 3rd generation, and when I connect the c wire to it, I get a wiring error that there isn't enough power to the c wire. As soon as the c wire is disconnected, the thermostat powers on as normal.

I have tracked the wire. It comes out from under the furnace and then goes to another board on the side where it's split into two zone. I have attached the pictures below. Do I just have to splice the BLUE wire ( common ) and put into Zone 1 and Zone 2 ?

Old one was battery powered so I don't think they bothered plugging it in

Under the Furnace
Side of the Furnace

Thank you

Aarrghh! Why does Home and Away quit working on my Nest cams?

I’ve noticed over the past week or so that my Nest cams quit working with Home and Away presence sensing based on my iPhone. This worked fine previously and I have both the Nest and Home app set to use my iPhone location for presence sensing and I have location services set to Always allowed for both apps on the phone. Anyone else notice this break recently or have a fix? (Why do I pay $200/yr for this poor service?!?). Thanks.
