Camera Outdoor cable disintegration
Was this the best solution ? - How long will that tape last in Houston heat and humidity ?

Buy some 1/4 inch wire loom tubing to cover it. Looks better and UV protected

That tape will be really gross in a short time. It will either dry out and become brittle or become a sticky, globby mess. If you don’t want to replace the cable, use shrink tube.

I ended up having to switch to the wireless/rechargeable cameras because this happened to mine.

Shame that OUTDOOR cameras don't have UV stable jackets. I mean standard jackets aren't, but cable meant for outdoors should be.

Known issue. Google does nothing about it if it’s out of warranty. Best has become crap when purchased by Google! Screw them! Next thermostat will be Ecobee for me so I can tell Nest ecosystem to go screw themselves!

Complain to Nest. They’ll send you a new one.

Have you looked at running a new cable?

It’s hardwired into the camera

Oh, I have the other version that is separate. Anyhow electrical tape should be fine.

Ah I should have said, “I think” as mine are; didn’t know they had a different type

I did this exact same thing a year ago to ours along the entire cable. Austin Texas, no issues yet! I'm sure Nest will stop supporting these cameras like they did their thermostats before our electrical tape fails.
