Dept Q was FANTASTIC!!

9

u/DeltaFlyer0525 8d ago

Yes! More people need to watch it!

3

u/Known-Intern5013 7d ago

Yes! Watched it on a whim and got hooked fast. I hope we get another season.

1

u/[deleted] 7d ago

I do hope so, there are so many books in the series. I enjoyed it so much I went down a Dept Q rabbit hole and ended up watching 3 of the original Danish films as well - very different entities but enjoyable

2

u/ilovem8th 8d ago

added to the list !!

3

u/ues4alluknow 6d ago

I went into the first episode blind, not having watched trailers or read anything. Didn't really wow me. Hadn't revisited it since. If it really seems to be connecting with people, maybe I'll give it a second try now.

2

u/AGismyname1 4d ago

Episode one is a very long set up piece introducing a lot of characters so is a little slow. Once you get into episode 2 things pick up a lot

2

u/ww02533 5d ago

👍 We need more Akram! Such a badass!

1

u/slackingsloth77 4d ago

I still dont understand the ending though

Stranger Things

Weak Hero Class

The Sinner Season 1

Extracurricular

Mindhunter

Mercy for None

5

u/ilovem8th 8d ago

adding these to the list!

9

u/LittleTricia 8d ago

Definitely The Sinner and yes season one was the best one. I was so excited everytime a new season came out but none of them were as good as that first first one.

1

u/Lindsay8677 1d ago

I loved all 4 seasons of the Sinner!

2

u/beverlyhillscop 4d ago

Mercy for none is epic!

15

u/craftyroulette 8d ago

Sens8

Any of those Harlan Coban ones might scratch that psychological/thriller itch

Behind Her Eyes (I wish I could erase my memory so I could watch this again)

4

u/ilovem8th 8d ago

behind her eyes is sooo good i had to rewatch the first episode to FULLY understand.

2

u/VanislanderIan 6d ago

Sens8 was incredible!

1

u/No-Clue-9155 5d ago

Watching it rn and my favourites are Will and Sun!! They make me so excited to watch the show but honestly all 8 of them are great characters, which is surprising. Shame I had such a slow start otherwise it could’ve been a bigger hit I think

1

u/Lindsay8677 1d ago

I’ve watched one of them and loved one of them

u/IlovePizzaHeLikesSex 8d ago

Haunting of hill house

2

u/ilovem8th 8d ago

what’s it about ?

3

u/IlovePizzaHeLikesSex 7d ago

“Explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past, some of which still lurk in their minds while others might actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House.”

And I’d add that it goes back between past and present and the cast is stacked!

2

u/Odd-Yogurtcloset5532 7d ago

It's really good. Exceptionally so.

4

u/TryContent4093 8d ago

It’s basically horror but really good. I usually don’t get scared easily especially with western horror films but this show was really scary.

3

u/[deleted] 7d ago

add Midnight Mass too, same writer & director.

u/ravens_path 8d ago

Blue Eye Samurai

Kingdom (Korean)

karma

7

u/UserNameChanged 8d ago

Kingdom was great!

2

u/ravens_path 8d ago

It’s the very best. WOW of a drama.

2

u/RazorRamonio 8d ago

Don’t forget Pluto!

1

u/ravens_path 8d ago

Not on Netflix. Only on an Asian streamer.

3

u/RazorRamonio 8d ago

That’s odd I’m in California and it’s on Netflix.

1

u/ravens_path 8d ago

There is a series called Pluto on Netflix but it’s an anime something, not the Indonesian drama. Japanese maybe?

1

u/RazorRamonio 8d ago

I was referring to the anime lol!

2

u/ravens_path 8d ago

lol. Well then. Ah I see….to go along with Blue Eye Samurai? Ah ok. I get it now. Hahahahah. The Indonesia drama is ummm, very different than that. I was raising my eyebrow….just a little. 🤣

2

u/RazorRamonio 8d ago

Yeah, I back to backed them together. Pluto and then blue eyed samurai. If you like the one you’ll probably like the other although Pluto is a bit more sci fi.

2

u/ravens_path 8d ago

Awesome. Thanks for the rec. also waiting for season 2 for samurai

0

u/Herr_wiggles 7d ago

Sci-fi kind of reinterpretation of the war in Iraq

14

u/AmericanViolence 8d ago

3 body problem crazy no one has mentioned that.

Has almost everything you listed

And had a strong hook so you’ll def binge

2

u/ilovem8th 8d ago

i’ve watched it and i LOVE IT currently waiting for the release date for season 2

2

u/chuby1tubby 5d ago

You could read the trilogy in the mean time if you loved it that much. I couldn't wait for season 2, so I read the entire trilogy. Did the same thing when I saw season 1 of Silo on Apple TV :)

13

u/nerdner 8d ago

The OA.

2

u/ilovem8th 8d ago

LOVE ITTT!

8

Dark

10

u/jmdinbtr 7d ago

I can get into this. What am I missing?

5

u/Specific_Paramedic17 7d ago

Yeah, I also can not get into this show (I guess thats what you meant..?).

What are we missing, guys?

6

u/Chatting_shit 7d ago

It’s a story about time travel and it’s clear the show runners had it all planned out from the start. You’re constantly wanting answers but there are no loose ends by the time it finishes which cant really be said for a lot mystery shows.

1

u/Specific_Paramedic17 7d ago

Thank you for that answer. Because of you I will give the show another try!

1

u/maddy2011 1d ago

Please do.. I've recently completed it and I can say this has been the best show I've ever seen. It's a slow show so you'll have to be patient but you'll love the mystery part of the show.

-1

u/highlydiscomforting 7d ago

I loved this! Didn’t expect it to be so great 😀

1

u/Prunille92 6d ago

Same!😊 I miss this magical atmosphere in a tv show

7

u/Urban_animal 8d ago

Untamed was solid.

3

u/Gitanes 8d ago

Nah hahaha. That show was all over the place. Wouldn't recommend.

1

u/Urban_animal 7d ago

Ya, Yosemite is huge, it’s gonna have to be shot all over the place.

I’ll see myself out.

1

u/RegularImprovement47 3d ago

I enjoyed it! It’s totally a True Detective season 1 wannabe, but nonetheless, it’s definitely worth a watch!

2

u/Urban_animal 3d ago

Its what, 6 episodes? Easy way to kill 2 week nights of what i would consider a good tv show

4

u/H4L9000 8d ago

100 years of solitude is fantastic magical realism.

5

u/Symptom-Alive 8d ago

Comedy series

  • It's Always Sunny In PHILLADELPHIA annnd THERE'S A NEW SEASON COMING

  • Tiers it's so funny and stupor but in the grey way and the episodes are so short

  • Sick Note Short episodes easy to binge.its very dark humour so maybe not a good watch if you're easily offended. That definitely includes all the above.

Movies

Comedy Movies I have always loved Pineapple Express, Games Night, Tag, Fist fight and The House (with Will Farrell)

Strays is sooo so funny I only watched it last week and it surprised me so much i

The Fundamentals of caring, I think I gave recommended this to everyone I know Along with The Perms Of Being A Wallflower 🥹

The Foreigner is AMAZING - It's an action crime as you can imagine since Jackie Chan

Series

Easy viewing series - You Can't Ask That., I found that one so interesting, it's Australian but it reminds me of someonethibg Vice would do.

Cunk On Earth - I love her as an actress but in this it's just so silly it's funny. I Watch it if I'm ever feeling sad because I know it'll mKd me laugh 😅

1

u/InevitableTeaching35 8d ago

I watched always sunny a long time ago and couldn’t get into it.. is the series not for me or should I give it another try?

1

u/Symptom-Alive 8d ago

You don't have to watch them really in any order I guesssss. So you could just watch fan favourites. Its extremely non PC. Its hard to choose favourite episodes but there's one called Times Up for the gang (season 13 episode 4) and another funny one The Gang Gets Analysed (season 8 episode 5)

4

u/CaueMurakami 7d ago

13

u/Its_all_pixels 8d ago

Go watch K-POP Demon Hunters

8

u/irritated_chicken 8d ago

Oh my gosh, my kids watch that on repeat!! The oldest girl (10) loves it but won’t admit it and she says the youngest (5) “makes” her watch it. 😂

3

u/thatonefrein 8d ago

Good, but not a show

2

u/frazzled-mama 8d ago

Still....it's so good! Doesn't matter that it's not a show. Everyone should watch it! I've watched it (willingly) with my kids four times already.

-2

u/safetydance 8d ago

That’s not a show

-2

u/safetydance 8d ago

That’s not a show

3

u/AmBEValent 8d ago

Watching a Japan drama Glass Heart. Surprisingly good. Great music, filming, and story. Apparently the actor playing the lead singer is scheduled to go on tour.

3

u/CHRISPYakaKON 8d ago

Warrior, Kingdom, Alice in Borderland, American Vandal

3

u/According_Test4787 8d ago

The Sandman broo

1

u/ues4alluknow 6d ago

Is the second season on par with the first? It feels like it's been so long since the first came out.

1

u/According_Test4787 6d ago

the second season is a continuation of the first one. its a great show tbh i really loved it and usually people agree that’s it’s really well made.

3

u/Sweet_Competition272 8d ago

Yep, The Sandman!

3

u/Kismet237 7d ago

“The Remarkable Life of Ibelin”

Note: I’m not a gamer. But this documentary was recommended on another post, so I added it to my list. Watched it last night. Wow…incredibly moving and hit my emotions in several different directions - Sadness, happiness, amazement, incredulity, appreciation for life.

3

u/[deleted] 7d ago

Do you like Korean shows ? so many to choose from if so, I suggest Flower of Evil, The Glory, Sell your Haunted House, Korean Odyssey, The Trunk, Destined with You, Tale of the Nine Tailed, It's Ok not to be Ok - they're all on Netflix right now & eminently bingeable

2

u/poison_ive3 6d ago

Have to add Signal, Crash Landing on You, and Reply 1988!

3

u/spoderman509 7d ago

Love Death & Robots. Essentially, the animated equivalent of Black Mirror. The episodes are short, so you can probably binge the whole show in a day or two.

3

u/Odd-Yogurtcloset5532 7d ago

Also not in your genre categories but Schitt's Creek is really funny and well worth a binge.

1

u/Reasonable-Public-84 5d ago

Click bait was decent

2

u/LittleTricia 8d ago

Also into the dark is all right if you like crime drama stuff with a little bit of adventure and hijinx. I'm looking for something new too. I just catch myself watching the same familiar stuff over and over.

2

u/Equivalent_Law3335 8d ago

Top Boy

1

u/ilovem8th 8d ago

what’s it about?

2

u/Equivalent_Law3335 8d ago

The ghettos and street life of London and the grind to make it to the top via drug dealing. It’s very gritty. Watch with subtitles

2

u/OriginalMisphit 7d ago

Blindspot. It’s about a team of FBI agents solving mysteries by using tattoos on an amnesiac woman’s body. I don’t usually watch law enforcement dramas, so I don’t know how I found this one but I got hooked quick. It’s one of those that is so bad it’s good. The acting is meh, the plots are ridiculous, but the cast are cute and make it work. Apparently the writers basically tried to outdo each other with unbelievable dialogue and scenarios. Like “This tattoo is a ship and they sail in the sea which is made of saltwater so we need to go the nearest salt mine!” And yup, there’s the bad guy hiding in a salt mine. I made that up but it’s not far off.

Really, Blindspot. At first I was hate-watching it but now I just love it.

2

u/Allofme1963 7d ago

The Fall. Murder saga with Jamie Doran and Gillian Anderson. Sooo good

Dark Winds. Reservation drama with Leephorn and Chee as the police. Worth the time

Derry Girls

1

u/Antique_Turnover_414 4d ago

If I had to recommend Peaky Blinders to you, I’d say this: it’s not your usual gangster show. It’s gritty, stylish, and heavier than it looks at first. The story is soaked in survival, family, and ambition, and Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian FREAKIN Murphy) is the kind of character you just can’t shake off. He’s damaged, magnetic, and every decision he makes feels like it could save or destroy everything. The music is unreal too, with modern rock cutting through smoky 1920s Birmingham. It’s dark, addictive, and before you know it, you’ll be watching at 2 a.m. telling yourself “just one more.”

1

u/Frequent-Client1508 3d ago

3 body problem

1

u/haste333 3d ago

I loved Dark, but that is commonly recommended. If you have seen it and like it, I would recommend The Lazarus Project. I'm on S2 and am loving it, but apparently it got cancelled so be warned.
