Go outside for a walk… after you watch whatever you want. I love going on my stupid little walks when I’m feeling down :)

u/_thehairapparent 3d ago

Great advice.

9

u/Nature_Dogs 3d ago

Great advice. Going outside helps me so much.

3

u/LittleTricia 1d ago

Even if you don't want to, just go out and walk around the block oncewhile it's lightly still. The exercise,, vitamin d, and all will make you feel a little bit more normal. At the very least, you'll get up and get dressed this gets our bodies back into a routine.
Other than that, watch a stand up comedy special. Laughing really is the best medicine.

Tires

15

u/Ok-Pen8151 3d ago

I’m actually on season two. Hilariously funny!

9

u/_thehairapparent 3d ago

Nice!

It's a famous one, but Ferris Bueller's Day Off is really good. Cameron is a great "depressed" character imo.

Bill Murray gets depressed in Groundhog Day.

If you've never watched Arrested Development, that's one of my favorites.

Maybe you want stuff that DOESN'T feature depressed characters, lol. Anyway, enjoy Tires! I hope it stays good.

I'm depressed too.👍👍

Love the show, but be warned it ends on an unresolved cliff hanger.

3

u/TismTalks 7h ago

I knnnnooowww 😭😭 I love it so much and rewatch it all the time but I hate that we will never know what happens next!

10

u/bibbi123 3d ago

Great British Baking Show. It's very zen.

As someone with severe depression, I find these kinds of shows better than comedies, since I frequently end up finding comedies to be unfunny when I'm down.

2

u/Ok-Pen8151 1d ago

Not on Netflix but the show The Great Pottery Throw Down is pottery version. Relaxing to watch and really fun to watch

The good place, maybe?

5

u/ArcturusG 3d ago

It’s not just funny but suspenseful, smart, and philosophical. Great writing.

4

u/Imaginary-JLo 3d ago

Peak, when I was under a depression era I kept questioning myself what can the perception of good or bad reflect on someone as useless as me. Then I casually found this show and honestly made me learn about the concept of morality and how can I shape my own view of myself without being ethically wrong. Maybe I got too much into it and not everyone has to live it the way I did, but it help me a lot!

Watch Silo and you'll appreciate being able to walk outdoors.

11

u/hokie56fan 3d ago

OP won't want to clean, though.

7

u/Shawn3997 3d ago

They always clean.

6

u/giftbasketfullofcash 3d ago

I find Unbreakable Kimmy schmidt to be encouraging on a deep level. But I also recommend a walk outside, it really helps me. Also drink some water and stretch a bit. You are worthy.

Everything gets better after a snack,a walk and a nap

5

u/Empty-Outcome5803 3d ago

Ok this is in a Netflix best of subreddit lol whatever if you have access to Hulu then plz watch

4

u/Accomplished_Bank103 3d ago

Try the Swedish mini series ‘Clark’. I never see anyone talking about it, but I thought it was a hoot. Bill Skarsgård brilliantly plays Sweden’s notorious bank robber, Clark Olofsson, whose 1973 bank robbery gave rise to the term Stockholm Syndrome. Oh, and feel better OP. Depression is a nasty bitch.

4

u/Grouchy-Flower-8605 3d ago

Parks and Rec

11

u/EMChanterelle 3d ago

Seconding The Good Place.

8

u/mikeclem5 3d ago

From a fellow depressed human, go outside. Not like be active and hike or anything. But be in the world. Get out there somewhere.

8

u/Ok-Pen8151 3d ago

Yeah I’ve started forcing myself to sit outside for at least 30 minutes a day. Baby steps lol

13

u/dphoenix1 3d ago

It’s a great show, but idk about it being particularly uplifting…

7

u/Stellaaahhhh 3d ago

It's cathartic.

4

u/InvestigatorEntire45 3d ago

Yep. In my worst moods, I’ll watch something like The Royal Tenenbaums. Sometimes that is also what you need. ❤️

2

u/TheRagingRavioli 3d ago

to be fair OP didn't say they didn't want to be more depressed

2

Queer Eye

3

u/Birdsteelpanda 20h ago

I'm an old soul, but one thing that always cheers me up is watching MASH. It has a lot of humor, but it also has some serious content and kind of makes you work through your crap. Got me through my dad's death, and generally makes me feel better when I'm feeling low.

3

u/mmIastro 3d ago

Can I suggest that you need to watch something that's slow , languid and slice of life ?

I found K Dramas very good as it helps me engage with these characters, slowly. Most of the stories take time to establish the premise. They also then take you on a journey along with the characters.

Here are some low key , fun series

  1. Because This is my first life - A down on her luck writer desperate to find a place to live through a series of events end up room mates with a guy . They both learn to heal through each other , learn surprising fun things about love... Supported by an excellent funny and fun cast ... This is a beautiful heartwarming exploration of warmth and connection

  2. Hometown Cha Cha Cha - Simple premise. A dentist makes a gaffe in a city and ends up moving to the countryside. Found family, beautiful location and you will want to live with these folks .. on the way you will solve the 3 mysteries of Gongjin 😁

  3. Twinkling Watermelon -a heartwarming time travel story that just explodes with love warmth and caring. Yes you will find the story very familiar . But the heart of this story will make you care for the characters.

  4. Business Proposal - based on a Webtoon a woman helps her friend out on a Blind Date and absolute chaos ensues in her life when the blind date turns out to be her CEO ! Lean into the slapstick comedy of this Drama and its simply fantastic!

Enjoy the journey and hope you feel better soon

2

u/DaisyPanda245 3d ago

I recommended Business Proposal as well. It definitely picked me up when I needed it!

2

u/jay_el_gee 3d ago

Not Netflix but Ted Lasso is go to feel good material

2

u/MC-ClapYoHandzz 3d ago

Schitt's Creek, Mo, Kaos

2

u/Background_One1595 3d ago

BOJACK HORSEMAN!! It’s so peak and cathartic in my humble opinion

2

u/jasmsaurus 3d ago

I think you should leave on Netflix. The only show that could make me laugh while I was grieving a few months ago

3

u/SanLady27 3d ago

No show has made me laugh harder. I was legit crying tears of laughter. You have to get in the right mindset for it and then it’s just hysterical omgg 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/UnicornVoodooDoll 3d ago edited 3d ago

If you want something light to forget that you are depressed, Bob's Burgers, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Rec, and Arrested Development are favorites of mine.

If you want something deeply emotional that will make you therapeutically cry at the end of each episode, check out It's Okay to Not Be Okay on Netflix. It has some of the most accurate and compassionate depictions of mental health issues I have ever seen in a show.

2

u/Ok-Raccoon-9466 3d ago

Detroiters, and/or I Think you Should Leave

→ More replies (1)

2

u/UserCheckNamesOut 3d ago

Detroiters. It's straight up hilarious.

2

u/FindingAWayThrough 3d ago

This is hard because sometimes what I need when I’m in my depression varies. Sometimes it’s “amusing with shorter episodes” (Schitt’s Creek, Brooklyn 99, Superstore, Young Sheldon) to contrast the depression, but other times, I need “serious, dramatic, some dark humor” (House, The Sandman, Outlander, Untold Stories of the ER) to meet where my mood is at.

Takes trial and error though!

2

u/StrangeCrimes 3d ago

Lupin is a very smart, tricky heist show that sucks you in.

u/drumscrubby 3d ago

2

u/Old_Farmers_Daughter 3d ago

AP Bio - funny.
America Symphony - uplifting. Army of Thieves - funny, adventurous.
Greg Davies, You Magnificent Beast - hilarious. I love this guy! Unfrosted - funny Call the Midwife - heartwarming, funny, uplifing. (Also via PBS) Slap Shot -hilarious (and Paul Newman!)
The Graham Norton Show - hilarious!

I just discovered that I love Chapelle Roan. Get your iPhone, put your earbuds in and listen to some music. Or try listening to some comedy. Do this while walking and you'll get a double dose of good endorphins. When I can't do any of that, I resort to horror shows. I'm too busy being scared or trying to figure out who the killer is to think about my own shit. (also, maybe try to figure out WHY you're depressed and start working on that).

One of my favorite K Dramas is Business Proposal. It’s a Korean rom-com and not dark at all. Very light, and I think you might like it.

Second KPop Demon Hunters, also Schitts Creek and Girls 5ever!

1

u/blue_collared 3d ago

Foundation, not because it's super uplifting, but because it's such a well thought out plot with complexity that it demands you pay attention and therefore distract yourself from the negativity of life. Also it's just a great show with great production value.

One piece cured my depression (I started 2 years ago) it's 1139 episodes for the anime but the journey is INSANE, and worth it

If you're not ready for such a commitment, watch the first arc about 45 episodes. If you're not into it since anime is not for everyone, just know that I'm not into anime and one piece is the only one I've ever watched

1

u/OfficialDuelist 1d ago

Nothing. Get out of your room and go spend some time outside, go visit friends, break your routine. Your routine is what got you here, you need to adjust it and put your mind in a new place.

1

u/Throwawaychicksbeach 1d ago

Queer eye: more than a makeover.

1

u/Weird-Power8997 1d ago

I doubt very much you’re depressed, not to be rude.you are more likely to be extremely miserable or sad.it Is the nhs says you are depressed when you have been sad for more than 3 months. 1 find out what is making you sad and sort out the soul problem. Be totally honest with your self about how it makes you feel.if it’s a women go have a chat with her. If it’s where you live it may be not the area but the internel colour of your property. Play light hearted music
