[Request] I’m currently on a 1 year break from Netflix. Are there any good shows/films added within last year worth watching?
Title. Last time I had Netflix was in June 2024 and I’m wondering whether it’s worth re subscribing for some good new shows or films

I rewatched the entire thing again from the moment I finished it, loved it that much

As somewhat of a Mormon history buff this show rubbed me the wrong way. But it was still good.

We pay $200+/year for slop.
There has been a handful of good shows: Wednesday, Dept Q, a couple of good documentaries, etc. That said, there is nothing there worth the monthly fee. I struggled to name 10 things I watched in the last year that were worth the fee.
I think what you are doing is best. Unsub from Netflix, sign back up in 6mo-1year, catch up with the best shows, unsub again.

Agree! I’m so sick on all the English dubbed crap. They totally cut their budget for original content, fired a ton of employees, raised their subscription pricing, and changed their performance metrics to total views (vs unique views - which is huge for kid content watched on repeat) so it looks like they’re doing insanely well but the new business model is a hustle.
AppleTV currently has the best original content imo… and def doesn’t get recognized enough for it.

And they KEEP raising prices! I agree with you on AppleTV. There are quite a few enjoyable shows there.

Honestly nothing has really grabbed me. Like I've added a few things that looked interesting but haven't seen anything new worth the trouble.

In the USA:
When Life Gives You Tangerines, 100 Years of Solitude, Scavengers Reign, The Decameron, Nobody Wants This, Blue Eye Samurai, Young Sheldon, Pantheon, The Diplomat.
Lesser shows: Fisk, Krapopolis, Inside Job, AP Bio, Lidia Poet, Derry Girls.

Young Sheldon was the first and only show I've stopped watching because of the damn intro music. It was jarring.
The premise and cast seemed great, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't skip the intro fast enough.

Kaos was great. But it was cancelled. I think Derry Girls is also on there if you haven’t seen it

Use Plex Media Server to host your own service. Then just watch everything you have legally purchased 😉

I stopped watching in January, the last things I remember watching were season 2 of Squid game and a hundred years of solitude (part one)

I liked 100 Years of Solitude and American Primeval and cut it off after that. I haven't been tempted by anything until I saw that The House of Guinness is coming soon. I'll subscribe when that comes out and I plan to also watch the latest Black Mirror and Department Q, then cut it off again.

I'd say start with this and add filters: https://www.justwatch.com/us/provider/netflix?release_year_from=2025&sort_by=tmdb_popularity

It’s likely going to depend on what you like to watch and what other streaming platforms you are subscribed to. There have been some new series, shows, movies some of which are original to Netflix and others not.
If you don’t have a friend, family, co-worker who will allow you to browse their Netflix account, you may want to browse the Netflix subreddits to see if any of the content discussions peak your interest to subscribe for a month or more for you to check them out.
With that being said, a few things you may/may not be interested in that I watched, some I enjoyed:
1) Reality TV: Building The Band (1 season, 10 episodes); Million Dollar Secret (1 season, 8 episodes)
2) Documentaries: they likely have had several since you unsubscribed…True crime (re: Gabby Petito, The Long Island Serial Killer, etc.), The Trainwreck series and others.
The more I think to try to provide suggestions/information, the more work it is for me that may not be helpful/useful to you. You don’t even mention what country you are in which could potentially affect what shows/movies are available. If you would provide basic information about your interests, what you like to watch in your post, perhaps I may have some specific suggestions to consider. Otherwise, answering your question is tough.
Netflix allows you to subscribe on a month-to-month basis so the cost of a one month subscription may be “worth it” for you to determine if you want to resubscribe for just a month or two, or longer…remembering that you can unsubscribe at any time.

If you don't resubscribe in 10 months they purge your profile. That once happened to me and I had trouble setting up a new account. Plus I lost all my history and watchlist.

Honestly, you haven't missed much! I'm currently waiting on stranger things, hopefully that should be Epic (According to the hype built up during all these years of wait)

The Sandman! Absolutely loved it! I grew tired and bored of Stranger Things.

American Primeval , really liked the authentic period western clothing. Some of the history was not accurate but most based on real events. Limited Series may have season 2.

Authentic clothes except The Mormons, they were depicted in black and white which director said was done to differentiate them from the other cultures.

Netflix shows for other countries are fantastic. Not sure what’s happening with their US folks. Dept Q, all Harlan Coban thriller dramas, the secrets we keep, just follow that vibe. All fantastic.

Not worth it.
You can find so many things to watch for free on YouTube, Tubi, 456movie (use your VPN), and Hoopla or Kanopy (with your library card).

Y'all need to learn how to pirate.. smh
Only reason I have Netflix and Hulu and Disney plus and all this other crap is because someone is sharing them
Free.. and I still hardly use any of them lol
I spend more time on Tubi than anything else tbh
